I had a bad customer experience with two separate employees at Arlington Coal & Lumber. First, I needed to order a new interior door, and even though I described in detail all the size and hardware measurements and swinging direction, the salesman was gruff, short with me, and ultimately ordered the wrong-sided door. I realized this as I was installing the door, and when I called him, and he essentially blamed me for not knowing exactly how doors are described when they are ordered. True - I'm not the door expert. But I did check with another expert who said this guy was a poor salesman for not anticipating what is a common point of door-ordering confusion, and for not confirming with me exactly what I needed. Second, and separately, I visited the kitchen/home center section and asked a saleswoman there for help in getting a quote on materials for new kitchen island I wanted to have built. She promised a quote via email. After several weeks of no reply, and then a follow-up via email and a second in-person visit, I left with another promise of a quote, and more than a month later, still nothing. She simply blew me off. If she were too busy to help me, she could have saved me a lot of time and frustration is she had just told me so up front. In both cases, my lingering sense was that I got this treatment because I just wasn't that big of a customer to them (door was $235 and the island probably would be ~$1,000-$1,500). So I'm writing this to warn other 'smaller' customers to learn from my mistake and explore other home center options.
