We smelled a faint gas smell coming from our utility closet and called 2 Rivers at 7:35pm. They were here within an hour. They found one leak and resolved the problem quickly. They were very professional and efficient, and extremely nice. They pointed out a couple of other issues with the boiler/water heater, and we would definitely use them again.

Two Rivers returned my call the next business day. That was nice. However, I learned they charge a $25.00 fee for estimates, which would be credited to the account if Two Rivers was retained. Otherwise, the estimate fee would be paid to the contractor. While an estimate fee does not reflect on the quality of their work, other Angie's List members should know that this contractor charges a fee for estimates.

I noticed hot water flooding the basement on Friday morning. I called 2 Rivers at 9AM, they were here at 10AM, and the new heater was up and running by 12:30.They didn't give me an explanation of the problems before beginning the work as I had requested, but since it was an acute situation I didn't press them for one. Other than that, they were great and I would certainly call them again.

We needed to have an automatic water shut off valve replaced for our washing machine. Mr. Ellis came out to take a look and give us an estimate (for which he charged $50 that could be applied to future work). He was difficult to talk to and fairly unpleasant. When my husband and I asked questions, he was impatient and condescending. The big problem, however, came with respect to the estimate. He quoted us a price that was nearly 3 times what other vendors had quoted. Furthermore, when my husband asked him how much the valve cost, he refused to answer. He also refused to tell my husband what his hourly rate was. He simply said that the project was a "fixed cost." While we would ordinarily not have a problem with a "fixed cost" project, the fact that his estimate was so out of line with other estimates made us want to get a sense of how much he intended to charge for the valve and for his time. Simply put, his price was out of touch with what other reputable plumbers were charging for the same project. I would not hire him in the future.

I called three plumbers and couldn't get some of them even to return my calls. Went to Angie's List and called 2 Rivers. They took my number and he called back within ten minutes, and showed up half an hour later, exactly on scheduled. Very efficient and informative. The best possible experience you can have when you have to have this experience.

I called on a Saturday morning, having had no hot water the night before, and with a puddle on the floor of the basement. They called back immediately, much more quickly than anyone else, and came within two hours. The technician was neat and efficient. I think the price was a bit high, but I didn't mind so much because of the convenience.

Inspection went great. Rep was thorough, quick, and he even pointed out work that did not need to be done (saving us money). Then he drafted up a quote, which was fine. But i was told on the phone that the estimate visit itself would cost $75 and that amount would be applied to the final amount if we did the work. What ended up being revealed only during the visit was that you had to make that decision at that minute. I understand that they would need the $75 check right away, but what if my wife weren't home and I wanted to check with her that night? When I inquired about that the vendor got defensive. His first sentence included "and I came out here today and i'm sorry if you don't appreciate that". Huh? What does that have to do with whether you can apply the $75 to the full amount if the work is scheduled tomorrow vs. today? And then of course the larger point -- be explicit on the phone about the terms of a visit estimate and how/when it can be applied to future work. We're going to end up doing the work but with another vendor - nobody should be made to feel like they offended somebody by simply questioning their policies. F on customer service.
Description of Work: Requested vendor to come out and give us an estimate on both fixing a radiator that wasn't working and also to vent a gas heater to the outside. Vendor set appointment and was prompt .

Ours is a wall-hung toilet and the plumber had laid down my options, and he was really great in doing that. There was a charge for coming out to do the estimate, which was added to the overall price charged for the work. The quality of their work was good.

I was attempting to replace my tub fixture and trim and in doing so snapped the old, corroded spindle off. Since I had replacement parts in the new fixture, I figured I could just use them. Unfortunately I wasn't able to loosen the ancient valve cap so I had to call a plumber. I checked on Angie's List and called 2 Rivers. They were here within a couple of hours and had the new spindle and fixture in place in 20 minutes. Brian was efficient, professional and very supportive of my endeavor. The flat 125.00 they charge just to come out was probably excessive in this case, but for such prompt service, it was well worth it.

I've contacted 8 + plumbing companies for a pretty straight-forward plumbing job (replacing a toilet). They are the only company I spoke with that wants to charge me to come and give me an estimate...and they won't discuss any pricing over the phone. I would find this reasonable if I lived 20 miles away, but I'm in the same town as their office. I wouldn't recommend them nor would I use their services for this simple fact.

I called 2 Rivers to install a new (actually used - it was new for me) dishwasher to replace the really old one in my kitchen. John Ellis came over on time, took a look, and gave me an estimate on the spot. I accepted it and he began work immediately. He removed the old dishwasher and installed the new one. The job took about 2 hours and I am very happy with his work. John was a nice guy and left my kitchen as clean as it was when he got there.

Recently moved into a condo. Received a call from property management telling me a neighbor suspected I had a leak in my master bath. I called 2 Rivers that day and they asked if it was an emergency (I told them no), It was a Friday so they said they could have someone out there first thing Monday morning. They were very polite and accomodating on the phone and explained there was a $125 fee for coming out, but that if any work needed to be done, it would be rolled into the cost of the work. Monday AM Mr. Ellis came out right on time, I explained the situation and he took a look around. He then went on to check all my sinks, drains, toilets, etc. to be sure everything was working properly. It ended up being a leak in a neighbors bathroom, not mine, but he noted a few minor things that should be kept an eye on and said since he came out and there was a fee he may as well fix a toilet that was not completely stabile. He was incredibly thorough and professional, explained everything and seemed very trustworthy. I will definitely call him again when I need any sort of plumbing services.
Description of Work: Checked all sinks, drains, toilets, etc. for any water leaks. Shimmed and caulked a loose toilet. Assured me there were no leaks and that everything was working properly.

On time for estimate. Inspected area. Pointed out several safety issues with basement(not even related to job). Walked me through what was to happen. Supplied me with a detailed written estimate. Was able to schedule work for the next week. Completed job before expected. Came back to hook up washer and dryer. Also came back on short notice and at no extra fee to investigate and fix a heating issue. I was very pleased with this company and its workers. They were prompt, polite, and cleaned up after work. I highly recommend this company.

Everything went well. The two young men who came did an efficient job. They cleaned up afterwards.
Description of Work: Water was leaking down from upstairs bathroom. John came to check it. Was professional and we really can tell he is very experienced. Gave initial assessment without opening the wall and quoted for work that surely had to be done. Next day his guys came and opened up the wall to do the work quoted(replace a rusted drain trap). They spotted another problem in the process.

Toilet was dripping slowly under the tank. Mr. Ellis was available the same day. He came and took a look. He did not give me an advance estimate of cost for the repair and I mistakenly did not ask for one. He installed a tank fill valve and was finished in no time. He was at my house no more than about 20 minutes overall. After the job was done, he said the charge was $160. I thought this was comparatively unreasonable and very high for this small job and brief time spent. I had been expecting something no higher than about $120 and as low as about $80. I asked if he was negotiable given the quickness and simplicity of the job and he said no. Though I was happy with the work, he was abrupt, somewhat unpleasant to deal with and I thought he charged entirely too much for this relatively simple job. I will not hire him again.

Response from 2 Rivers Contracting & Services Inc
ON DECEMBER 6, 2007 I HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH THIS MEMBER ABOUT A LEAKY TOILET. I GOT TO HER HOUSE AT THE TIME WE AGREED UPON, AND HAD TO WAIT TWENTY MINUTES FOR HER TO ARRIVE. ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THINGS HAPPEN THAT WE CANNOT CONTROL, I MADE NOTHING OF IT. ONCE INSIDE, SHE SHOWED ME THE TOILET AND I PROCEEDED TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM, JUST LIKE I DO WITH EVERY JOB. I FOUND A BRASS NUT CROSS THREADED ON THE TANK FILL VALVE AND HAD TO SHUT DOWN THE TOILET, DRAIN ALL OF THE WATER OUT, REPLACE THE TANK FILL VALVE AND SUPPLY LINE, AND THEN TEST TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING WAS RUNNING PROPERLY. I THEN RECOMMENDED THAT SHE CONSIDER REPLACING THE SHUT OFF OR POSSIBLY GET A NEW KOHLER LOW FLOW TOILET. ALL OF THIS WAS WRITTEN ON HER INVOICE, ALONG WITH THE PRICE WHICH WAS $163.00. SHE SIGNED THE INVOICE AND I WAS UNAWARE OF ANY COMPLAINT. ABOUT A WEEK LATER SHE CALLED ME BACK, SAYING THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER LEAK. I WENT OUT AND CHECKED AND TOLD HER IT WAS BECAUSE OF THE SHUT OFF AND THAT I COULD REPLACE IT, BUT SHE DID NOT WANT ME TO DO THE WORK FOR HER. I DID NOT CHARGE HER FOR THE SERVICE CALL THAT DAY. IT IS UNFORTUNATE THAT SHE WAS UNSATISFIED WITH THE PRICE AND WORK, BUT I HOPE SHE CAN REALIZE THAT IT WAS NOT A TWENTY MINUTE JOB. EACH DAY I WENT TO HER HOUSE WAS AN HOUR SERVICE CALL BECAUSE TRAVEL TIME IS ALSO TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. I DO NOT RUSH THROUGH MY WORK BECAUSE I WANT TO INSURE THAT EACH AND EVERY CUSTOMER GETS THE SERVICE THEY DESERVE. I WAS NOT TRYING TO BE MISLEADING TO HER AND I HAVE NO PROBLEM GIVING ESTIMATES, SO I WANT TO POINT OUT I WAS NOT TRYING TO BE DECEIVING AND I FEEL BAD THAT SHE GOT THAT OPINION.

On Monday I came into work and everyone noticed a smell in the basement. I found the smell coming from a puddle surrounding the sump pump. I called 2 Rivers and John came out within the hour. He assessed the situation and found that the sump pump had failed. After giving me an estimate I told him to go ahead and repair it. While he was working on it, he found that contributing to the problem was a variety of items that should not have been flushed down the toilet. He was very clear with explaining everything he was doing.

I found John very easy to work with: professional, dependable, and honest. He came to assess the three problems I called him about, gave me a quote, including options to contain costs, then scheduled a follow-up time to fix the problem once the appropriate parts were in. He called in the interim to keep me updated as we were waiting for parts. He showed up when he said he would and finished the job both within the time-frame and cost estimate he offered. When he was finishing up the job, which included painting the repaired drywall, he even made the extra effort to touch up other areas of the bathroom wall that needed paint, saying "while I had the paint and brush out."

An earlier plumber had replaced a different and irrelevant pipe for a cost of $500. I decided to call Two Rivers instead of having the first plumber come back for a third trip. I was very impressed with the method of determining the location of the leak, with their professionalism and knowledge of older plumbing systems and with their thorough repair and cleanup.
Description of Work: A pipe under the bathroom floor was leaking, damaging the first floor ceiling, which started to collapse. They came out on very short notice, located the leak with a fiber optic system and were willing to shift schedules to do the repair immediately. I opted to wait for the next day and had them repair a leaky shower as well. The repair involved unseating the toilet and tank, replacing a section of pipe, reinforcing the toilet supports, re-seating the toilet, and repairing the leaky shower valve. It took two persons a full day.
