Marlene was great!!! We could not have made our move without her expertise. We had a short schedule to make the move because of my deadline to start a new job in our new location. She helped moved every item in our house and classified it then helped us to make a decision about disposal or destination. She was great at suggesting how to dispose of or donate items. She contacted a charity that she knew would accept them and assisted in loading the items in their van. She seemed tireless and worked diligently to make sure that every item was covered and decisions were made. She assisted us with loading a trailer with items we would need in our temporary apartment, even giving us a travel container of snacks, etc. for the trip. Since we had already left for our destination she also was present while the movers packed our belongings and loaded the moving van and loaded our second car on a car carrier. I can't thank her enough for all the work she did. The work she did was worth every penny spent and more. We hired an organizer and found a friend!!!

Overall it was a pleasant experience as for the past 5+ years knew I needed someone but nervous about picking someone cold. So Angies list and the reviews offered were convincing to follow through with Squared Away.
Description of Work: After a brief interview I could tell Marlene and I would click. Her philosophy on organizing, change etc., was right on. She had some good ideas and In addition to the consult she help me organize my work station. In all she spent 2 hours and left me motivated to get moving. I expect I will be using her again in the near future. I have a pretty big project that has to tackled but need to get my husband involved who is out of town at the time. After which I can submit more info.

Description of Work: Our home needed some organizing 911. Both of us parents work full time and needed some time saving input on how to handle the paper trail from kids and to get a handle on storage ideas and reducing clutter. This company was courteous, creative and resourceful. 1. Her suggestion to reorganize the location of items helpled immensley. One goal was to clear off most of the kitchen countertop which was achieved in ways such as relocating items and clearing out and organizing cabinets that were under utilized. We also found an unused book shelf to put in a storage area for bulk kitchen items that completely transformed the accessibility. We could not possibly have seen how to do any of this or had the gumption to pull it off on our own 2. She helped install some simple inexpensive shelves and create a work station for mail, bills and grownup projects that is attractive and low cost. 3. She organized my husbands home office in ways that were much more sensible and practical and clutter free. 4. She has experience in home staging and had some great ideas regarding making spaces such as the dining room cabinet look more pristine and pretty. 5. We created a nice generous pile of discards, she promptly took them off our hands for donation to a consignment shop that supports a hospice organization. The consultation not only solved some big organization problems but educated us regarding how to have a place to put everything. This was money very well spent. We have been able to acheive some permanant solution to home organizing that could not have happened otherwise.

When i first moved into my apartment four years ago i was downsizing from a 2K sqft house with basement to a 1700sqft apartment. needless to say i had storage issues due to the boxes that had previously been in my basement. my second bedroom in the apartment was pretty much my storage locker while also serving tripple duty as my office and guest room. the problems started as i was moving in and boxes where stacked to the 12' ceilings. i had been able to get some things unpacked, but was stuck with large piles or things i had collected over the years. I finally decided that i need to get some help, after trying to do it my self and even with my girlfriends help, but it jsut seemed like the job was to big to get done while working 80+ hours weeks. so i decided it was time to take a week off work and hire a professional to come in and get my place in order. I searched through the providers here and found Marlene based on reviews and a before/after pic that looked allot like what i was dealing with. Marlene is great at what she does. she kept me on task and was able to make extremely helpfull suggestions on ways to lay things out so that i wasnt constaly searching through piles of junk. I took three days to run through what i had been starting at for three years. I can't recomend here highly enough. She asked the right questions to get a feel for how i live my life in my house and made the layout fit me.. not some cookie cutter idea of how a house should flow, but a flow that work for her client. There was never anything about that i had to change.. it was all about how to get things done so that my slovenly self could keep the place in order.

Description of Work: After 18 years of living and collecting "stuff" in our home we decided to put it on the market and move to warmer climes. The first item on the agenda was cleaning out, throwing away and donating lots of accumulated "stuff". Marlene was recommended by a friend and for 2 days she was a godsend. She helped with the sorting out, found a non-profit donee and arranged a pickup. She helped pack it up, organize it and prepare it for pickup. She assisted me when the movers came to pack and remove unnecessary furniture and contents of our attic, basement and garage for storage. Then she staged the rooms with our belongings. She did a fabulous job in all departments. She was very professional, offered valuable advice and was wonderful to work with. She has a substantial understanding of the complexities of downsizing and helped us make wise choices. I heartily recommend her to anyone who plans a move. My house has never looked better!

It went great! The process went fairly quickly (12 years of clutter organized in 2 sessions and under 8 hours total!) and painlessly. So squared away/Marlene kept me focused and enabled me to make decisions quickly. I would recommend having bins on hand to give a "home" to things that need to go into storage as they are categorized. On Marlene's recommendation, I did this for the second session and it worked out great.
Description of Work: So squared away/Marlene decluttered and organized my finished basement sorting toys, sports equipment, furniture and papers setting up a system to sustain keeping it clutter free. Then, So squared away/Marlene created a vision for the space using toys, tables, and lighting that we already had on hand. I desperately needed help figuring out how to fix my hopelessly messy and overloaded pantry. My pantry's deep 20" shelves made it difficult to access the food in the back. Items got buried back there, making it hard to know what we had 'in stock' so I often found myself rebuying food I didn’t realize I already had. So my familiy ended up using the floor space in front for easier access, which just made things worse and turned walk-in pantry into a step-in-reach-and-stretch pantry. I called So Squared Away for a consultation. Marlene came over (on a weekend, no less!) and we discussed how I would prefer to use the space, ideas for storage, tips on what should go in a pantry, and how to organize it in a way that is sustainable. We then worked out the design of the shelves and calculated the square footage of shelf space needed. After a little research, we realized that an off-the-shelf (no pun intended) solution wouldn't work in the space (the dimensions of the shelving you can buy in Home Depot or Lowes resulted in too much wasted space), so Marlene suggested I use a custom closet installer to execute our plan. And knew that a local company was offering a holiday sale. After my new shelving was installed, she came back to to help me organize the contents of the pantry in a way that I can maintain. It has been over a month now, and the pantry is as neat and organized as it was on day 1! I completely recommend Marlene to anyone who needs a gentle assist with any home organization problem - big or small. She has ideas I never would have thought of on my own and really whipped my pantry into shape. Thank you Marlene! My pantry is now So Squared Away!
