M & D PLUMBING

So far it has gone well.

By the middle of May the dirt work was finished and the house pad was ready. The Compaction Test was done, then it rained setting the schedule back a week. The builder came this morning (May 27) and began setting footings. This afternoon the builder told me to call the plumber and then the termite company because we were going to be ready for these next steps. I called both numbers for M and D plumbing and no one answered the phones. This seems to be the way they conduct their business because I have had another person tell me they had the same problem. I then sent an email stating the rebar and footings were being worked on and at what point did I need to call him. Mrs. Payne responded to the email with, and quot;Oh no!! We were supposed to do our work BEFORE the footings.....and quot; According to my steps in the building process checklist, that is not standard procedure. Also my builder said he had been building for over 20 years and has always done the rebar and footings and then the plumber comes in, the termite man sprays, a moisture barrier is applied, and then the concrete is poured. After several more unanswered phone calls to him and another email to his wife he finally responded to me, (maybe he was busy in the middle of a job?) He spoke with the builder and then me. He said he would need to charge more because of the situation, so I asked him how much more. I was willing to do whatever was required to keep the construction moving. He said he uses a machine and would now have to have it dug by hand to lay the pipes. He told me he would have to come out and look and then abruptly and rudely said he was no longer interested and would not be doing the job. This is unprofessional behavior and certainly no way to do business. It seems he could have at least worked with me. This is not a big job - 1900 sq ft with only 2 bathrooms. He seemed like an affable young man and I am very disappointed this has turned out badly. Yes, it could have been done the way Mr. Payne required but he never indicated otherwise BEFOREHAND. He was aware the dirt work was being done two weeks before because I spoke with him about moving a water well that was in the way. He never once mentioned his requirement. Additionally he made an appointment two weeks before for me to go to a certain plumbing supply store he recommended to pick out the fixtures, sinks, etc. I will take some blame for some mis-communication but he is the plumber and should have made it clear what his requirements were. This WOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED IF I HAD CHECKED ANGIE'S LIST to begin with because Mr Payne already had a and quot;D.and quot; So now I am looking for another plumber and this time I am looking on Angie's list FIRST.
