My service was provided by technician Todd Brandau. Todd was punctual and patient while I explained my concerns. There was no extra charge for it being Memorial Day. I was very pleased.

Since I have a mini-split unit with multiple inside units, I was concerned with getting a service company that was familiar with this technology. After talking with Jeanette at Airworx, I felt comfortable with the diagnostic fee and scheduled the appointment. She called this morning to tell me that a technician was on the way and he arrived within the hour. He quickly diagnosed the problem, gave me a price for service and completed said service. Overall, a very good deal. Sorry that I didn't get the technician's name, but he was very polite and professional. I will use Airworx in the future for A/C service.

A technician performed an inspection of our air conditioning system, which had stopped blowing cold air. He then spent the next 20-30 minutes on the phone, we assume, with his bosses. Before he told us what the problem was, he repeatedly attempted to sell us an annual service contract. He then said the condenser coil was exceptionally dirty. He went to great length to explain what might happen if they attempted to remove it. Sounded like we were going to have the plagues of Egypt visited on our house. He said the cost to remove, clean and replace the coil would be $1,100 to $1,500, not including the cost of any coolant, if needed. He then got around to saying the condenser was so dirty they wouldn't attempt to service. He then tried repeatedly to get us to schedule an appointment with an "advisor" who would "walk us through" everything we needed to get our home cool again, which was to replace the unit at an undetermined cost. We contacted another service company, who came to our home today. They removed, cleaned and replaced the condenser for $600 and didn't charge us for any coolant. The only good thing I can say is they honored the 10 percent off coupon provided by Angie's List.
Description of Work: Unit had stopped cooling. A technician performed minimal service call.

Response from Cheeks AirWorx
This note accompanied our refund check ($58.50) to this customer: Mr. ___________, I’m so sorry we did not serve you well. Please accept this apology. I will post a response to your Angie’s List review once I have had a chance to get all the facts from our people. In the meantime, please find enclosed a check for the amount you paid us. Good luck with your A/C system. Sincerely Thomas Smith After learning what transpired, it is clear that we did not serve the customer well. The primary problem was poor communication. We’ve grown rapidly in the last year and added several new service techs. The one that went to this customer was the newest. He’s a great tech and a great guy, but, he was not adequately informed about how to handle the problem he encountered at this home. I accept responsibility for that. I want to be clear that the basics of this review are correct. However, there are a couple of errors that do bear, somewhat, on my response. The problem with their system was the evaporator (not “condenser,” as mentioned) was completely stopped up with dust/debris that bypassed their filter. It was so bad, that it was not possible to clean it without removing it from the air handler and cleaning it out in the yard. This involves cutting the Freon lines and possibly losing some of the refrigerant charge. The tech told the customer it would cost approximately $600 for that task (since the Freon, if any, would be extra). A little background: The brand of equipment this customer has in their home has the reputation of having the poorest quality of all brands. And the main reason is……….leaking evaporator coils. In fact, we (Cheeks AirWorx) quit installing this brand of equipt. 2 years ago because of so many leaking evaporator coils. The tech knew that the odds of their 6-year old coil starting to leak are very good, especially after you clean it. So, in his mind, he was trying to steer the customerto replace the coil (or the whole air handler) instead of spending/wasting $600 cleaning the old one. He evidently was too persistent in his attempt to steer them to a new coil and the customer became aggravated…………shame on us. Our unequivocal philosophy is to do what’s in the customer’s best interest. But, I think in this case, we let OUR belief of what’s in the customer’s best interest take precedence over what the customer wanted. Once the customer is informed of the facts, and we’ve pointed out the options, we need to let the customer make the final decision……….without unnecessary attempts to change their mind. The tech also attempted to “sell” the customer a maintenance agreement (ECA). We DO want all our customers to have an ECA because it will prevent the problem this customer experienced. However he made a mistake by discussing maintenance before he fixed their problem. We have discussed this with the new tech and we’ve had a training session with all our techs regarding this incident. I believe we will do a better job serving our customers going forward, and I’m truly sorry we did not serve this customer better in this instance. Thomas Smith

Cheeks AirWorx was prompt and professional, from Angela, the dispatcher / receptionist, all the way down to the service people. Russell was extremely nice and helpful and we also signed up for a maintenance plan. Jamal came out did our first maintenance check-up. He was extremely polite and knowledgeable. Would recommend Cheeks to anyone!
Description of Work: Russell at Cheeks AirWorx came out and looked at our AC unit, which had stopped working. As it happened, ants had gotten into the outside unit and caused it to short-circuit. He got rid of the ants and fixed the problem and got us back up and running.

First of all, when I called the company, I was asked if my husband would be at the meeting we had set up -- as if he was the decision maker for the family. I took offense to this question as I'm a retired Air Force Lt Colonel and am obviously capable of making household decisions! When the salesman showed up he was friendly and asked good questions. He looked at the 2 systems and the house to determine our needs. He asked to show me something with the biggest system and told me it had no filter on it...which I later found to be wrong. It does have a filter inside the metal box. So, he left to research one of the systems he had no experience with and was to come back in a few days with a proposal. The next morning we woke up to a freezing house. After studying the system and seeing the salesman had left one of the front panels off, I called the office. The salesman came out quickly. He looked at the system and told me "sometimes systems just fail like this", implying it was a big coincidence and that the system had died right after he had been here. I asked if it could be the pilot light. He kept punching the pilot light ignitor to no avail. He punched it over and over. I asked if maybe it needed to be relit. He said he didn't know how to light the pilot...but called the office and they talked him through it. All of his mistakes put together led me to pick another HVAC contractor to replace our systems. I figured if the bosses thought so little of us that they sent an inexperienced salesman out to our house, what would their work and follow-up be like.

Thank you for the feedback; we will use it to improve our company. We sincerely apologize for offending you when we asked if your husband would be at the meeting. And we don't blame you for being offended. That was a major mistake on our part We also apologize for the inexperience and for the mistakes our salesman made while at your home. Your experience was exactly opposite of what we desire - and what we normally see. Your feedback has prompted us to renew our training efforts and we are actively addressing the issues you brought to our attention. We already see positive results and we expect to be a better company because of your feedback. If you ever need us in the future we will do our best to make it a great experience. Best regards, Cheeks Community Service Co.

They were very personable, quick and professional. The light in my downstair bathroom was not working although every other light and outlet and light in my home was. One would think just to switch the breaker but part of my home is configured with a low voltage electrical system so once you open the panel there are wires everywhere, no traditional switches. I was worried about price as they charge by the hour, but the technician came in figured out the problem, which was a loose fuse/switch, fixed it and was gone inside 2 hours. Great experience overall.

We're disappointed the member chose to write this negative review. However, we are willing to accept his review in order to maintain our principles. Three times in the last 4 years, he complained about the charges for work we performed at his residence. In all three cases, we either gave him a discount, or did the work at no cost whatsoever. But, this time, when he accused our technician of saying something that is not true, I decided we would not be bullied into giving him a discount that he did not deserve. The member may not be a habitual complainer (to get discounts on purchases), but, his behavior towards Cheeks Electric & A/C leads me to believe he is.

I was out of town but my parents stated the technician took the time to explain the process and the issues. I asked fore a phone call upon the technician's arrival since I couldn't be there in person. He did as I requested and he was very professional. The bill was more than I was expecting to pay, but they did fax me a copy of bill upon my request. Overall we were happy with the experience and I would likely use them again.

My furnace/air-conditioning unit in the attic was improperly installed way back when, which my house inspector missed -- typical jerry-rigged older-house job. The unit wasn't suspended over a drain pan, but down inside it, and with no float switch, such that when water would build up in the condenser line, it'd overflow, and with almost no space in the drain pain, and no float switch to shut it off, the unit would pour water through the attic floor and dining-room ceiling. Two contractors came by and told me that the thing to do was to disconnect the unit from the refrigerant hoses, lift it off the attic floor (which would involve first cutting and then repairing/replacing duct-work), level the attic floor, install a drain pan with a float switch, and to make extra sure install another sensor called a "water bug." Largely because of the labor, they each quoted a price higher than $1500. Jeremy from Cheek's came by and noted that yes, the unit was installed improperly, but the main problem was essentially basic physics. The condenser/drain line went quickly to floor level, and then lay flat for 20' before it reached the drain stack. The condenser line was backing up because water was standing in it, because it was level with the floor. So his solution was simply to replace the condenser line with a new PVC pipe that moved on a proper incline, so water would never stand. He said he could go back to the shop for materials, be back in a half-hour, and do the job right then. He also installed a shut-off switch inside the condenser line, and an auxiliary sensor in what exists of the drain pan. He saved us well over a thousand bucks by suggesting the simple fix rather than the elaborate, expensive one. Jeremy and Cheek's have earned my trust.
Description of Work: Installed new drain line, in-line shut-off switch, and auxiliary drain-pan switch -- avoiding a much more complicated $1500+ fix.

Service quality was very good, and electricians were professional in nature. In initial posting, we were surprised by the time requirement to finish installation of a heavy-duty ceiling fan (20' ceiling) and 8 GFCI outlets, but after further research of contracting in the area, Cheeks' time charged were within limits of any other electrical service company. So original comments are to be amended. Thank you, Cheeks Electric.

The house we built in 1980 had a heat pump, which was a new concept for around here at the time. The unit was more expensive than a regular unit but Mr. Cheeks, who has since passed away, promised us that it would pay for itself within the first year. The heat pump did better than that. It payed for the difference in less than a year. We called Mr. Cheeks several times within that first year to adjust air flow throughout the seasons. He always told us that that was part of the contract when he installed our unit. He even came back and installed another air vent in an area that did not get enough air flow as expected. We had nineteen more years that we lived at that house before we sold it. The people that bought the house did not have to replace the outside unit for another five years. Mr. Cheeks would come and service the unit promptly whenever we called him. He also suggested the thermostat, which again was a little more expensive, but all we had to do was set a temperature and the unit decided if we needed heat or air. I know this saved us money again. The house we are currently in was contracted to the dad of a student of mine, otherwise we would have gone with Cheeks again. I hope I have not confused things with giving the info I have.
