Services we offer

Devon and his crew were great. They tore down my existing dilapidated garage and slab and rebuilt it to specifications that I provided. They showed up on time, were professional and got the job done. I love my new garage and would recommend them to anyone that needs a competent and honest contractor.
Description of Work: Devon and his crew tore down and rebuilt my garage.
Description of Work: The contractor was more concerned with keeping his sub-contractors happy than providing the desired outcome. Inspections were with privately paid inspectors not with city inspectors, so plumbing, electrical, and mechanical work not up to code was passed. We do not recommend their services.

This repair and paint job was an enormous job. I am very pleased with the results. Devon Sweeney and his crew are very professional. He was receptive to my concerns when they arose during the course of the work. The house looks fabulous and I'll definitely be using him again as we continue our restorations.
Description of Work: Repaired damaged studs on back of 1930's house. Stripped and repainted entire house.

He did a very good job. He was respectful, courteous, professional, knowledgeable and trustworthy.
Description of Work: Fixed garage roof and replaced some wood in the garage. Also re-screened the front porch.
Devon Sweeney is a man of his word and his restoration sensibilities match our own. He makes sure the job is done right and if for some reason someone doesn't do what they are supposed to do he makes sure it gets re-done. He arrives on time and doesn't spend his time on the phone lining up other jobs. He gets in there and works right along side his men. I have worked with many contractors and handymen over the past 2 years and almost every one of them has lied to us, ripped us off, did extremely sub-par work and just generally destroyed our faith in humanity. Devon is not one of them. He is fair, honest to a fault, does exactly what he says he will and is a pleasure to work with. We hired him initially for the roof. He did it on time and made sure the challenging points on our 150 year old house got extra attention. Next we hired him to essentially replace the entire back exterior wall and install 4 windows. Sometime in the 70's someone thought it would be a good idea to take out all the windows and put in glass panels. He gave us a thorough estimate and time-frame and he stuck to them both. He, his brother Travis and his crew made the salvaged window frames and sashes I collected from all over the place not just work but look great, even installing old counter weights so they work just like they should. He hired a crew to do the paint and it looks lovely. The latest job was a bathroom reno. We needed the sub-floor reinforced and new tile around the tub/shower and the floor. Devon was unavailable, working on another project, so he hired a guy to do it for us. Unfortunately the sub did not do a great job and when Devon saw it he immediately scheduled time to fix it and he credited us on our next job because it wasn't up to his standards. He stands by his work and if anything malfunctions he comes back to make it right. The window glazing on those old windows wasn't done properly by the painting crew; when the windows leaked he came back immediately and fixed it. I cannot recommend Devon enough. He likes restoration, respects historical details, and won't try to get you to "update" or "modernize" with big box building materials that look out of place on a New Orleans home. He is hands-on every step of the way and lets you know when things come up, as they always do on historic homes, and what your options are. There has never been a bait and switch with him, he's upfront about what a job costs and also about what you might find before he starts and what that might cost. An honest contractor is very hard to find in this town and we are so glad we found him..
Description of Work: New roof installation, new siding on back of 150 yr old camelback house, removed horrible 70's era glass panels and installed reclaimed cypress windows, painted back wall, renovated bathroom and a million little things that we needed done.

They seem to be very competent. A friend of mine also recommended them. They have use them before and liked them.
Description of Work: We got an estimate from Sweeney Restoration a couple of weeks ago but we haven't decided yet. It's for painting and building a shed.
Overall, it went extremely great. Devon Sweeney of Sweeney Restoration initially met with me to go over all the aspects that would be needed to be done and provided a free, detailed estimate that turned out to be very reasonable and descriptive. The house was a total wreck as we had damage of every sort. The house was leaning, walls were see-through, and my wife actually fell through the rotten floor at one point! Everything needed to be replaced. After we gave the job to Sweeney Restoration, Devon Sweeney (the owner) started promptly on the job with his crew and worked amazingly efficiently! I have dealt with other contractors in New Orleans, and I can honestly say that very few compare with Sweeney Restoration. They were on time (or early) every day, which unfortunately seems a bit of a rarity for New Orleans contractors. The project spread over 4 months, and I actually caused it to be delayed because I was stubborn enough to try and hire my own electrician, plumber, and HVAC contractors. That was my biggest mistake. Many of my other contractors had trouble turning around on such a tight schedule since Sweeney Restoration moved so efficiently. Sweeney Restoration ended up waiting on my other contractors to finish working and getting their inspections. The other contractors could not believe (and some didn't) that the work was being done so quickly and efficiently. I started out being on the job-site everyday, but as work progressed, I just gave Sweeney Restoration the keys and they still worked smart and efficiently without me even there. It was nice to see that they did not cut corners even when I was not present. They also made sure that the work performed was done right. If I had a comment or complaint about something, they immediately fixed the issue. Also, I chose to be billed and pay in batches (i.e. roof, framing, windows, floors, tile, etc.) as the worked progressed instead of one lump-sum payment. We had a construction loan from the bank and needed to get reimbursed by the bank in batches, so that was nice and extremely helpful. So all in all, I would definitely recommend Sweeney Restoration to anyone interested in any sort of remodeling work. We have a "brand-new" house now and it is absolutely stunning. Also, my wife and I evacuated for Hurricane Isaac and could not get back into town immediately. Sweeney Restoration took the initiative to check on our house and reported that all of the new work held up perfectly, which was a huge relief. It was very reassuring to work with them, and if I had to do it again, I would definitely hire them again. However, I would probably skip trying to find other contractors and let Sweeney Restoration handle the other areas as well to save myself headaches and time. For this project, I would have saved around a month if I would have done that from the start, and things would have run much smoother.
Description of Work: Sweeney Restoration did almost all of the restoration work on a falling-over, 1200 sq ft, 100 yr old house. Below is what I can gather, but I'm sure that I'm missing something: Repaired and replaces sills on two sides of the house, demolition of various parts of the house (roof, siding, floor, walls, etc), rebuilt the entire back side of the house, corrected the lean of the house, rebuilt and repaired much of the framing of the outside walls, repaired and replaces floor joists, repaired roof joist, installed and repaired historic windows on house, installed sheathing, wrap, and hardi siding on the entire house, installed a completely new roof (new decking, tar paper, shingles), repaired "ginger bread" looking shingles in front eve of house, installed subfloor, built and framed out new walls and rooms inside house (new floor layout), painted exterior of house, dry-walled entire interior, textured walls, installed new hardwood flooring, repaired salvageable hardwood floors, built frames for salvaged hardwood doors and installed them, installed baseboards, window trim, shoe moulding, crown moulding, installed cabinets and island in the kitchen, installed cabinets in the bathrooms and utility room, painted interior of house, finished hardwood floors, intalled tile backspash for master tub, installed tile floors for bathrooms and utiltiy, installed tile backsplash in kitchen, built custom landing and steps, built custom A/C platform for outside, built custom closets, installed railing for front steps, took down old fence and built a new one, built and installed skirting on the house, installed all roof jacks, and installed gutters.
