Every interaction I had with Orleans Shoring was professional except for the lack of delivery of the estimate.
Description of Work: I contacted Orleans Shoring to obtain an estimate for house leveling and shoring. They couldn't come look at the property for a little over a week from the date I called them. But, I have found this is not unusual in New Orleans right now. Lorenzo arrived a little early (he did call and said he could be early if that worked for me), spent a good amount of time looking at everything, and explaining what he saw. At the end of our meeting he said he would email an estimate to me. The meeting occurred on 8/11/2015. I haven't heard anything from Orleans Shoring. I left one message.

See above. He gave ne an estimate but was too lazy to even go under the house. THEY DO NOT CARE. WE CAN DO BETTER.ANGIE MEMBERS!
Description of Work: This salesman Lorenzo laughed in my face when I asked to make changes to the contract. They were very unprofessional the entire way. Missed the first appoint, late for second, put ridiculous clauses in the contract like not responsible for any damages, want money upfront, etc. Acted like they did not want your business. SO DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR BUSINESS, FELLOW ANGIE MEMBERS! Pitiful.

To level my home everything went fine. I was under quoted and had to come up with an extra $18,000.00or they would not continue the work. Had no choice because all of the dirt was already taken out from under my home. It has been four months later and i am still waiting to have work finished around my home. Poor communication with the paying customer.

Everyone I came in contact with, were wonderful. They worked so hard. When they said they were going to do something, they did it. They were just really great. I would like to let everyone know about them for getting the house raised. They were good and kind. It was a superb experience. I'm handicapped so they put the listing for me. Every time I had question, I called Steve Baker and he answered questions for me. I would use them in the future.
Description of Work: I used Orleans Shoring to get my house raised. They finished the work about a month ago. I had insurance and some program so I didn't have to pay them. They had to raise the house five feet and put in new stairs.

So far so good. I had called around to different established companies to receive quotes on raising/leveling my house. I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to be a fly by night company that has shown up to try and cash in on all the grant money available to raise houses. A couple of these 'established' companies, including one who has been around for 100 yrs, were no shows. Very unprofessional. On the other hand, Orleans Shoring has been great. Everything has been wonderful and easy so far in my dealing with them..from the inital scheduling of the appt to their progress with the paperwork that needs to get done. Their representatve, Mr. Murray, was awesome. He was patient with our endless (and probably a little annoying :) ) questions. He went over everything with us...what can be done, what can't be done, and anything else we wanted to know. I like the idea of them being around for many more years to come and their transferrable warranty. Not to mention, they don't subcontract their work. Their employees are the ones who handle the raising of my house. Kat, the person I speak with in the office, has also been helpful. Right now she's doing her thing and getting us through the maze of dealing with all the bureaucracy of getting any available grants to raise our house. Like I said when I started, so far so good. I'll try to keep everyone updated with everything, hopefully with pictures.
Description of Work: Haven't started the actual leveling yet. They are still in the process of working on my grant paperwork.

I had a terrible experience with Orleans Shoring and would avoid them at any cost. Don't even call them to give you a quote. We had an appointment set, but the inspector called me 3 hours early and asked if I could meet him at the property now, since he was already there. I explained that I couldn't just pick up and leave work, we had a scheduled time to meet. He replied that if I didn't come now, he wouldn't be able to make it back out for SOO long... so I adjusted my day and went to meet him. There were two gentlemen in the vehicle. I showed them the corner of the porch that was sagging, and the historic brick column that was beginning to lean (which is a main feature of the house). I let them do their inspection and look at the other piers. After a couple minutes, one of the gentlemen said "Well, basically your house is about to fall down" - um, excuse me? We bought the house a couple of years ago and had the piers inspected, I knew for a fact the house was stable and sound. He also recommended I demolish my porch, since the brick column wasn't worth saving (see above). While he was writing up the quote, the other gentleman struck a conversation with me, apparently in an attempt to convince me that I really did need over $100,000 worth of shoring work, and that I should do whatever it takes to come up with the money. He began asking about my mortgage, price of the house, interest rate and other questions about my financial situation that was totally inappropriate. I reiterated that all I needed done was the porch. He said it wasn't going to be cheap. I said I need a quote from you, so please write it all up. He gave me a verbal estimate for $23,000. At this point I was so insulted by both of their attitudes, and clear assumption that I had no idea what I was talking about (even though I'm a young woman, I work in housing and really know a lot about this stuff) I reminded him that I don't have any rebuilding money (FEMA, Road Home, etc.), this repair was coming out of my personal paycheck. I asked if he would like to revise his quote, and he knocked off $2,000. Clearly he wasn't getting the point. I don't know if this is one of their sales techniques to scare homeowners into forking over all of their rebuilding money, but the whole thing stank to high heaven. I've seen so many low-income homeowners (my field) ripped off by shady contractors such as these guys, I asked them to leave. Insulting. Patronizing. Dishonest. Do not use Orleans Shoring EVER. Don't let friends or family use them. Oh, and I had the rest of the house inspected again, and all my piers are absolutely fine. I ended up spending $2,200 on the porch fix.
