LEE MOVING & STORAGE

The initial process was seamless. A sales agent came out and gave an estimate that was reasonable accurate. She was easy to get hold of by email or telephone and a pick up date was scheduled after the estimate had been agreed upon. I was given a three week window for delivery. The loading crew was also great. They were punctual, professional and did not cause any damage to the premises. I had done my own packing and it took about 3 hours to load a one-bedroom apartment. The agent who deals with dispatch and logistics called me after the crew left to inform me that he would call me once the driver picked up the goods and furniture so that I could have an idea about the delivery date. Having moved across country several times before it all seemed pretty standard, however things went downhill from there. I was preoccupied with driving across country but when I reached CA three days later on a Thursday, I realized that the Lee moving agent had not called me. I called him and was informed that a driver would pick up my shipment on the following Wednesday and again, he would call me once the driver had loaded. That day came and went with no phone call. I called the Lee agent the day after and the pick up and delivery seemed a lot less definite with several 'maybes', 'possibles' and 'hopes'. I was informed, for the first time that it was an unusually busy season but I should get my things within the three week delivery window but toward the later end. Well, the three week window was closing and I had no word from Lee moving. At that point I became frustrated and called Atlas and it became clear that no driver had been assigned to the shipment, and that the shipment would be late. This posed a problem since I was scheduled to start work the following week which would have been one month after the goods had been picked up. Finally, the goods were picked up from New Orleans but delivery posed significant problems that would not have otherwise occurred if the shipment had been on time. My condo building has restrictions about move in times and dates and more importantly, I had started work. The response from Lee moving was disappointing at best. The agent seemed sympathetic and seemed to be on my side, but the only options I was given were to miss work on the most inopportune day (I'm a surgical fellow) or pay an additional $1500 for them to arrange to have my things placed into storage and then delivered two weeks later. They resorted to what they considered their minimal responsibility and any customer service quickly evaporated. I now understand that they they are merely agents with little influence over how things progress with your move and whatever advocacy is claimed to have occurred on your behalf will not yield a result in your favor.
