We have a large old house, if done right, painting is a big expensive job. My goal was to choose a painter that would do a quality job that would last 10 years. Joseph Wallis delivered, the paint job has lasted 12 years, a good life time for exterior paint in New Orleans. Preparation was the key to the long life, the skilled painters spent 4 weeks sanding and caulking and 2 weeks painting. The preparation was truly amazing, every square inch of the large house was sanded. The sanding was done without removing excess wood. No swirl marks were left, very smooth surface to paint. They then sprayed on an oil primer and 1st coat of latex paint. All trim was hand painted, beautiful job that has lasted. Joseph really takes pride in the houses he paints, yes he is opinionated, but I respect his passion and experience. He does not cut corners. The product was a beautiful paint job that has lasted. I will be painting the house again within the next year and will be contacting Joseph.

Joseph Wallis has signs everywhere in Uptown, but I couldn't find any reviews of him online, so I really wanted to share my experience with other people that are curious about his service. Joseph is very old school - hand written estimates, leave a message for him on his home phone (no cell phone). He returned my phone call for an initial estimate in 2 days, and was on time for our estimate appointment. Because our other estimate appointment didn't show up, we ended up choosing Joseph Wallis for our service. Joseph is extremely stubborn and defensive, and would not answer your questions without a sarcastic or demeaning remark. One of our rooms painted was done poorly and he essentially blamed it on the wall. He always uses his "34 year of experience" to prove to you how expertise he is, but the work doesn't really show it. The only positive points were that he was on time and the job looks somewhat OK - I think we could've done it ourselves

Wallis is picky about jobs, prefers and has experience on old N.O. houses. Sanding crew was exceptional; on time 6 days a week and wanted 7. Carpenter subcontractor also on time, but needed constant supervision to avoid some quick/ugly fixes. Chisel through one interior wall and some nails as well. Painting was the worst. Crew was chronically absent, as was Joe, without a phone call. Pulled workers off of our job to do others on several occasions, even after PROMISING TO OUR FACES that we were priority. Verbally abusive toward employees, which didn't seem to improve absenteeism (wonder why?). Painted some details the wrong color despite having been provided with diagrams, but did fix this immediately. Total time on the job 5 and half months. While contract didn't set a time frame, very frustrating to never have anything like an estimate ("I'll take as long as it takes to do a good job" was answer).
