 + 0 moreJeff returned my call punctually and showed up on time for the estimate. We agreed on a price. I had other work to be performed before he could do his job and he kept in touch to schedule the work when I was ready. Jeffs price was pretty high but I accepted it because I needed top quality workmanship and experience for this unique project. Jeff showed up on time and did a great job. He put down mats and cleaned as he went. I took off work for this job because I designed the project and stayed home to make any decisions required if anything unusual came up - and they did. This project was unusual and Jeff helped greatly by explaining the problems and the the options to solve them as we encountered them during the project. Jeff worked well beyond the normal 8 hour day to complete the job. He had to come back twice to finish skimming and sanding the sheet rock and he did so promptly. In summary I reccomend Jeff highly. He did good work and went above and beyond the call of duty to complete this job to my satisfaction. Jeff came prepared with a large van and trailer of tools and extra parts that saved him time and me money. Jeff is a character with a great sense of humor. He's intelligent and impressed me with his knowledge of all phases of construction and his deft touch, skill, and professional techniques. I'm happy to give Jeff an A+ for the quality of his work, his work ethic, and performance on all levels.
Description of Work: Jeff installed installed 4 electrical sockets and moved 1 cable television jack to a wall mounted floating media center platform so no cables or wires are visible. The work required opening the sheet rock and pfishing wires and cables thru the walls.

Description of Work: Fiberglass entry door was sticking and in need of weatherstripping. Shimmed door for realigment, then removed door, trimmed bottom(neccessary to prevent scraping on hardwood floors), and reinstalled new weatherstripping.

 + -1 moreNo, really zero dollars! Wonderful former Army man comes to rescue of obviously mechanically impared blonde woman with unlit hot water heater. I was sure the thermocoupler was out, and I had waited three weeks (well it IS NOLA in the summer) to get it looked at, sure it was going to be a hot mess, but NOOOO..Jeff walks in, three minutes later, I have cheering kids, my dog wants to go home with him, and we are sitting here enjoying a glass of ginger ale! HOMERUN, ANGIE'S LIST!!! I'm a first time user and I picked a SERIOUS winner right out of the box! HEY, this blonde woman isn't as dumb as she looks, HUH? CALL JEFF! DO IT NOW!!!
Description of Work: Fixing thermocoupler on hot water heater that really didn't need fixing in the first place, I just THOUGHT it did. Jeff knew EXACTLY what was wrong (I wasn't bright enough to light a hot water heater). NOW WE HAVE HOT WATER!

 + 4 moreJeff is the BEST handyman. I have been using Jeff for every repair in my old house for almost a year. Today I called Jeff at 2:00 because my hot water heater went out and I couldn't light it. He came over at 5:00, lit the heater, and taught me how to light it in the future. All for NO CHARGE. I really thought I was going to have to buy a new heater because mine is very old but Jeff got it working. Jeff also explained the differences between a tank hot water heater and a tankless heater so that when my heater does break I can make an easier decision on what to get. I will definitely have Jeff do the installation. Recently Jeff installed ceiling fans, fixed many electrical outlets, repaired and painted windows so they now open and shut, built a back porch, replaced boards on the outside of the house, repaired a rotten column, and painted my front porch. For years I put off repairs because I didn't know who to call. My house is in much better condition since I found Jeff.
Description of Work: Jeff came within 3 hours of when I called him on a holiday and lit the hot water heater in my attic for no charge.

 + -1 morePROS: Very quick, arrives when he says he will. Seems to do good work. CONS: Very quick (almost rushed), little hyperactive and talks a lot over the phone. Jeff is like an old school guy who likes to josh around a bit and I can see why this puts people off. I believe that in a professional environment, it's always better to refrain from over familiarity with your clients from the get go. It gives off the impression that one is not seriously concentrating on the home repair. This can be disconcerting for the homeowner. However, nothing that he did was done badly or incompletely and I will definitely have Jeff back for handy man type jobs in the future. :)
Description of Work: We had Jeff come out to fix a grounding problem with our dryer. He looked at the problem and was able to fix very quickly. We also had him install a new 220v outlet for a new AC unit that we purchased.

He provided a quote over the phone, told me some dos and don'ts about selecting a sink, and even suggested I open the sink packaging to make sure all the parts were there before he came out in order to save time. He was professional, friendly, quick, reasonably priced, and I highly recommend him. I will use him again on other projects.

 + -1 moreSee above as the answers to these two questions couldn't be separately. OVERALL: He falls under the catagory of a "do it yourselfer". May know a little tiny bit about some things but not good at any.
Description of Work: We called him (Jason) Saturday, Aug 27, 2011, 1:00pm with details that the oven had an electrical starter that lite but no flame, a knob was missing and the other had no words on it so you couldn't tell if you were baking or broiling or other. He wanted to come out that day but I said it wasn't necessary and we scheduled it for Monday, Aug 29, 2011, 9:00am. We called him at 9:30 to confirm his whereabouts. He said "I thought I canceled our appointment since I canceled all of my appointments for Monday". He showed at 10:30. His transportation was a motorcycle. 1. Missed the appointment and only showed because of us calling. 2. Had no tools or supplies whatsoever. Asked for us to fetch the various tools and supplies. 3. Inappropriate familiarity beyond friendly and professional. 4. Excessive talking under the familiar category. 5. Seemed perplexed and when asked initially the source of the power which we watched him establish, he couldn't figure out why the power went out on the oven. We informed him that he disconnected the cord from the outlet. 6. While I was working, he said, "Look up the number of Magtag". 7. He did establish that the oven was working, it just took a while for the flame to light. Other than that, nothing got fixed and I now have a clock malfunction. Please allow me to vent so that none of us tolerate this behavior and think that perhaps it's only happening to one person. I don't want to hire a skilled worker to talk about his or her family life. I expect that they come appropriately dressed with a purpose in mind to get the job done and done with proficiency and efficiency. If I want a comedy act, I'll go to that venue. We immediately called Dependable Maytag HomeCenter from yellowpages. P.S. He said he fixes everything. Don't believe it.

Within the following half hour Jeff was at the house and less than an hour later I had a ceiling fan installed and working! Unheard of usually! AND he did it on his birthday! I highly recommend Jeff for all kinds of 'handyman' jobs and will call him again.

 + 0 moreAbout 9:30 last night, I noticed water on the floor in the bathroom, and soon found that there was a fast drip from one of those valves under the sink - the ones that allow you to turn an individual faucet off. We called Jeff and left a message. He called back about 10:00 pm, and I described the problem. About a half hour later he was at our door. Fortunately, he had a spare valve on hand, which he quickly installed, curing the problem. Pretty good for a Sunday night! We have had other episodes with him where he had trouble with scheduling himself, but this evening he outdid himself.
Description of Work: Replaced a water valve in the bathroom.

 + -1 moreHe came across very condescending. He told me that every time I opened my mouth it was going to cost me more. I just needed someone to replace the filtration system for the pond. He said that we needed a new part for the system. He did call once to say he was still looking for the part. Upon trying to call him today to find out the status of the repairs, it sounded like I got a recording and I could not understand what they said. I am disappointed and I very much need to have the pond repaired. I also need to get the parts back from him that he took with him. We haven't been able to make any headway with Jeff, it has taken too long and we still have a broken pond filter.

 + -1 moreHe goes to a hardware store and gets what he needs and we pay him for that and we pay him for labor. The price varies. He did a very good job. He's kind of hyper but I would give him a good grade. His prices are very fair. He went off to the store and got the stuff so we didn't have to go get it. Over the year he has been so filled up with calls that he has been responsive but sometimes he so busy that he isn't always on time. But he's always called us to let us know he'd be late and told us when to expect him. He's very professional. We are getting ready to sell our house but he has been very helpful.
Description of Work: Jeff Of All Trades has come and fixed small things like raise a counter to fit a washer and dryer. Most recently he spackled and filled in some cracks in the master bath wall that I guess shifted when a hurricane came through. He has spackled some other stuff and painted. He did the ceiling, we have 14 foot ceilings and he repainted a few spots in the ceiling where some of the moisture came through. We live in a 130 year old house.

 + 1 moreHe was responsive to my needs and my schedule. He arranged to be here when I could also be here - sometimes after work and on the weekend. He came when he said that he would and most importantly he was on time. If he was not able to complete the job because he needed additional parts, he came back promptly and in a reasonable amount of time. He is friendly and polite, knowledgeable about a broad range of home repair needs, and I would not hesitate to call on him again.
Description of Work: Jeff removed old brass bathroom fixtures from the sink and shower/tub area. I had them refinished, and Jeff reinstalled the ones in the tub and installed a new set on the sink. Upstaris he repaired the sink drain and removed and repaired the toilet. He covered the exposed pipes under the 2nd floor overhang . He repaired and replaced the exterior light fixtures which come on at dusk. He reapired the sink in the kitchen. Installed a new front doorbell. And I am sure that there was more, but ...

 + -1 moreJeff was wonderful! I recently moved my elderly parents to Metairie from another state due to my father's illness. Shortly after they moved into their senior's condo complex, they started experiencing electrical problems, such as brand new light bulbs burning out within a couple of days, fluctuations in voltage, problems with appliances, etc. Because my dad has to be on oxygen 24/7, I was concerned that these problems might damage his oxygen concentrator, not to mention the potential fire hazard! I called Jeff today and he happened to be on another job in their neighborhood. He arrived at their house within 2 hours of my call. Jeff identified and repaired the problems immediately. He even took the time to visit with my parents, who were happy to have a guest other than me and the nurse! Best of all, he told my mother to wait 2 weeks to make sure that the problem was fully resolved before paying him! Later this month he is coming back to replace a couple of very unattractive light fixtures and the faucet in their kitchen. He told me to buy the fixtures and he will only charge for the labor. I am also planning on having him do some repairs at my house. I am very glad to have found Jeff and I highly recommend him! Thanks Jeff and Angie's List!

Description of Work: My siding was coming off the bottom half of my chimmeny and the wood and beams had rotted due to water getting in from the top where the roof is. Jeff gave me an estimate, came out to fix it on the weekend due to my work shedule. He put new beams and replaced the rotted wood and caulked where the water was getting in. He went to do the other side and the water damage wasn't as bad. He was honest and told me the wood didn't need to be replaced. He sealed it to prevent any further damage. He put the siding back up and secured it so it won't come undone anymore. He did a a great job. The final cost was lower than his estimate. Will definetly will use Jeff again!
