They did a good job. It took them about 30 minutes. When they installed the system they were able to install an high energy efficiency equipment which had lowered electric bills significantly.
Description of Work: They cleared a clogged drainage line.

We called General Heating and Air Conditioning to hear their prices on a refrigerant recharge because we knew that the thermostat, air handler fan, compressor, and the condenser fan were all functioning. The air conditioner cooled a bit, but it was not performing at its best. Lauren at General Heating and Air Conditioning gave us prices over the phone. She said that a service call would cost $79. If one pound of R-22 was needed, she said the cost would be $117 including the service call. (R-22 is more expensive than the newer R-410a, but our A/C is designed to take R-22.) Lauren also said that if two pounds of R-22 were needed, the charge would be $167 including the service call. We scheduled the service call and the technician, Randy, appeared promptly. He was skillful and worked efficiently. He recharged the unit and wrote out the bill including two pounds of R-22. There were no parts installed and no other problem was addressed with the air conditioner. The total charge was $246 though we had been quoted $167. Clearly Lauren made a mistake when quoting the price. Should we have to pay for Lauren's mistake or is this just another bait and switch tactic? When we complained, service and repair manager Jamie Root refused to provide an itemized bill.

I began using General Heating and AC in the 1990's. They were the best outfit in town:competent and honest, a rare combination. The former manager, a man from Belize, was exceedingly honest. If you did not need a repair, he would tell you so. He retired before Katrina. Since then, I would say that they are still very competent, but they are no longer honest. They told me that my two AC units went on the blink, they replaced them. I later found out that the units they installed were too large (and expensive). They also did the work while I was not home. Turns out they left the very large condenser upstairs in the attic, hidden behind a chimney. They also dumped rust from the old unit (a pile 4 inches high) on the attic insulation and forgot to put a pan under the new unit. Condensation dripped into the rust and then bled through the plaster ceiling in my son's bedroom. I had no luck getting them back out to take responsibility. I tried them a couple of other times for smaller things ("seasonal checks") and it seemed that each time they came out, I got a $300-$500 bill. I stopped using them for about 5 years, hoping it had been a Katrina-effect and that they were honest, and more concerned with building a long-term client relation again. So I called them back in April of this year (2014) to check my heater. I was told some wires were loose and a vent disconnected (no parts). It took about half an hour of work. I was charged nearly $300 and the man tried to hard sell a 'maintenance contract'. So, if anybody has a good recommendation, please post it. I'm done with these guys.
Description of Work: Heating unit was on the blink. Connected a few wires, half hour of labor, no parts.

They were excellent, really excellent. They diagnosed what the problem was in a very efficient manner. They were fast and they did it perfectly. I am very pleased. I would never call anybody but them. I didn’t have to pay because my landlord did.

Cleaned and serviced two heating and air conditioning units. Suggested I get the service contract which was a bit more than the days expense but it will give me service through the year and includes another cleaning in the spring. Very happy with the tech who arrived. He explained everything he did and cleaned up after himself.

I ordered a filter from General and was quoted a price with me picking up filter at their office. The filter came in later than they had told me as the first one was damaged and they sent it back. When the second filter arrived they delivered it to my home which is in Lafitte,LA and their office is in New Orleans. They went out of their way to accommodate me.

They were a family owned company and they have merged with another company. There was no charge as I had an extended warranty for the air-conditioner. I had a service technician that I absolutely loved but when they merged they put him as a supervisor and he left the company. No he does not deal with residential. The last technician that came out was just excellent. I liked that technician so much that nobody could be compared to him until this last technician that came out. The quality is great. The only problem I had was to finding a technician to replace the old one.
