I bought this old house in New Orleans an hired a contractor to get it ready to move in an turn on all the utilities. He apparently did nothing he was paid to do except re-key the doors an window bars, and paint the interior the wrong color. He did get my utilities on. The house was supposedly redone in 2006 after Katrina. I bought the house in 2011. Right after buying it I was hospitalized for almost a month an was ill for some time before an after the hospital. Which is my excuse for hiring someone I did not know an letting him continue to work on my house even when I realized he was not polite and was charging me way too much. I do not know people here an wish I had joined Angies List a year ago. I still have very little water pressure in the kitchen an it takes a long time for hot water to appear there. My sewer line was leaking an he put straps on it an fixed the leak an had to clean out the line, an noted 100 ft in an area that may be 30 ft. My principle problem with this person is his rudeness an irritability an that he was charging me over $100. an hour for his labor which frequently had to be redone. The electric service is still blinking and there is a live wire under my house that should have been removed when he said he checked my service. He has calibrated my thermostat several times an it is still off. The faucet installed on the front of my house is loose an the pipe is hanging free, he charged $1200. for two outside faucets an insulation on the pipes. I insisted that the gas lines be inspected by the City an he came an hour early an was redoing several areas that were not tight before the inspection. When I told him, finally, that I did not understand why he was so rude to me an that I knew he did not charge me what he did his other customers he said that he was not coming back here. I told him I had heard a couple of his 'helper's laughing about how he overcharged me. Most of this is my fault for not finding another service but it was so easy to just have to call one person for all of it. This is an older person an he is very clean but left my appliances sitting in the middle of the floor an when he broke an antique he didn't even apologize, his 'helper' did on the way out. He shoved my furniture around and was very careless and called my property 'old junk'. I am 69 years old an my son lives with me as I cannot be alone, but he is not the least bit 'handy'! Thankfully, I now have Angies List!!
Description of Work: Numerous times this man came and assured me that he had 40 years experience and knew all about plumbing, electric, A/C and heat, and he let me know he did not want me asking him questions because I just didn't understand. 1st call was due to very low water pressure an long wait for hot water in kitchen sink, he replaced the faucet entirely which made it appear to have more water pressure due to the faucet strainer. My toilets in both bathrooms were rocking an one was running constantly. He tried to level them with a quarter an piece of wood an replaced the insides of one. Then he said that the floor under the toilets needed to be re- enforced an he removed them an put in a piece of wood an new ring an cemented them in place. The one that was running was still running an he came back an fixed it again. I asked him to check my electric panel as I was having blinking lights in the house an noticed one of the breakers looked loose. He said he had rewired the panel an removed all the old wiring an all the breakers were good an I had plenty of amps to run everything. My A/C compressor was new an needed to be filled and connected to the inside unit. He came several times an had to keep fixing different things in the unit as he said it was old and then the fan needed to be replaced an some panels and he replaced the brand new thermostat. He installed a faucet on the front an back of the house an put insulation on all my water pipes. I had asked him to check the pipes as they had been under flood waters. (He did this while I was in the hospital an my son came to get the check for him) I thought he had replaced some pipe but all he did was put on the insulation an install 2 faucets. He told me that it was necessary to replace all of my gas lines as they were under flood water an were corroded an could cause an explosion. That was the job he was doing when my electric breaker went out in the front of my house. He spent over 8 hours trying to figure out what was wrong an then said good-bye.
