+ 0 moreMy old water heater rusted out, pouring water in the yard on a Sunday, so I turned the water off to the heater. Called Earl's on Monday, and someone went to my house that afternoon to check it out and gave me an estimate of $1200. I thought it was expensive, but it was in line with another estimate I got a couple of years previously when I had a leak and considered replacing it. They came back the next day and installed the new gas hot water heater. The installer was a different person than the one who came out for the estimate, and didn't have a tall enough ladder on his truck for the vent, so he had to come back a couple of days later to complete the job (but I had hot water on Tuesday - didn't have to wait for the vent). I never actually saw anybody, because I asked them to do the estimate and the work while I stayed at my office since the water heater was outside and accessible. I also paid with my credit card over the phone. It was very convenient for me.
Description of Work: Replaced outdoor gas water heater and brought the venting up to code. Needed to run the vent pipe up past the camelback (2nd story) roof.

+ 0 moreThey were fantastic. They charged me $1,200 for the service. I felt like there were one or two things that they had to do and they did not charge me for the same. They did not nickel and dime me. They were very respectful. The water heater was leaking and since it was in the attic, it was a rush job. They came out the same day and I was very appreciative of the fact that they were able to come out so quickly. The pricing could have been a little less, though. I have not got up to the attic to look at the work done by them, but I am sure they did a quality job. I would use them again in the future without any question.
Description of Work: Earls Plumbing and Heating Inc. did some plumbing job for me, two weeks ago. They replaced a water heater in the attic.

+ -1 moreMy hot water heater was boiling over. Bubbling out the top and flooding my garage. Apparently the original installers should have put in a catch pan but failed to do so (which is a code violation). Also, my 3 year old flushed his toothbrush down the toilet, so this was a 2 for 1 deal. Called Earls and they sent a guy out the next day. The tank was still under warranty so I didn't have to buy a new tank. Installed a new tank and augerred the toilet. Hot water heater works beautifully but the toilet kept backing up. The day after Earls called with a follow-up and I explained the situation. Not 20 minutes later, Glenn, shows up at the door and pulled that nasty toothbrush free. Glenn is the man!

Description of Work: I called Earl's Plumbing after reading the positive reviews on Angie's List. I live in a home that was built in the early 1950s and my upstairs bathtub always gets plugged up after 2-3 years if I don't ALWAYS keep a drain screen in it to catch hair and debris. I have had it unplugged by both RRouter and Mudbug Plumbing in the past. RRouter charged me $250 several years ago and I thought that was steep at the time. So routine call. Called Mudbug as they successfully cleaned it out last time and charged me about $125 before. Nice young man came out...very courteous. However, he ran the cable several times and said that he couldn't get it through because of the twists and turns in the piping...old pea trap, etc. Came back the next day with a helper and ran the cable from the attic. He said that he hit resistance around ground level and there was water backed up in the pipe. His conclusion: there must be a break somewhere and I needed a video inspection which would cost $250. During the process of trying to fix the bathtub issue, my downstairs ceiling was flooded which resulted in water damage. I.will have to sheet rock and paint a pretty significant area. On top of that, the young man said he would have to charge me $130 because of the time he spent at my home to run the cable, etc. I paid him. That evening I called a contractor friend and my elderly father who both gave me a quick lesson in plumbing. They both said the main line wasn't broken because if it was, all my drainage in every sink, bathtub and toilet would be backed up (lesson one).. It must be inside the house or under the slab in the house somewhere. The contractor said that I would have to get the video inspection to find out where the leak was. But I still had a sneaking suspicion that the young man who came out may have missed the mark because the tub drain had been cleaned successfully twice before. So the next morning, on a whim, I subscribed to Angie's List and found Earl's Plumbing which received many good reviews. Quick Note: Prior to joining Angie's, I called Mudbug's and spoke to the woman who answered the phone. I asked, because of the fact that they couldn't clear the drain and because my ceiling is now damaged, would the owner/boss be willing to discount the video inspection by $130 that I had paid the previous day. She called her boss and he said that he wouldn't discount the inspection, but if they got the job, he would deduct the $130 from the final bill. Well, that made me a bit upset and reluctant to use their services for the inspection. Called Earl's and they sent out two master plumbers the next day: Bob and Leroy. Very nice, experienced gentlemen. And guess what...they cleaned the drain and my bathtub is working fine. I took advantage of getting a quick plumbing education and quizzed them on a few things. First, he said that the cable the Mudbug employee used may have not been the right size. I told him it was a large cable and he thought it may have been a 5/8" cable. He then said that such a large cable should never be used in an older home because it could actually tear up the pipes...lesson two I plan to renovate my downstairs bathroom and totally gut the space...ceiling and all. The upstairs bathroom sits right over the downstairs bathroom. With that in mind, I asked if it was prudent to change out the pipes from the upstairs bathroom while had the downstairs bathroom gutted...you will be able to see the upstairs' bathroom pipes through the downstairs' ceiling. Bob said definitely. Bob also gave me a quote to do the plumbing in the downstairs bathroom when I do renovate. The cost to clean the drain was the same as Mudbug's price: $130. However, Bob & Leroy had to do some repair work to the upstairs pipes and that cost me an additional $125. With the $30 coupon from Angie's List, I paid only $235 (less than the video inspection Mudbug's wanted to charge me). The woman at Earl's also said if they couldn't clean the drain when their plumbers came out, they would do the video inspection for free! And they usually only charge $200 for the inspection, less than Mudbugs. The next lesson I learned is that many of the plumbing companies out there send out "sewer technicians" to clean drains as opposed to licensed plumbers. So if they can't easily clean your drain, they don't always have the experience to troubleshoot the problem further. Case in point with Mudbugs. He assumed it was a break in my line and recommended a video inspection. Who knows what they might have told me after that! Time and money...time and money...that's all I kept thinking! Earl's always send out at least one licensed plumbers on all their calls. Loved Bob & Leroy...very experienced...very confident in their abilities. Next time I call a plumber, it will be Earl's. And if they allow requests...I'll ask for Bob & Leroy. Thank you gentlemen! And thank you Angie's List. I hope this post helps others with their plumbing problems. Next lesson, never just go with what the first professional tells you...always get a second opinion. Although I am out $130 and have a damaged ceiling...I did learn some invaluable things that will help me in the future. Final lesson, always look on the bright side! As a woman, I now feel more confident in my ability to find good, quality help when needed.

+ -1 moreIt was a small job and his price seemed fine. They came right away and we were happy with it. I had my deck redone and now it is above where the hose outlet used to be. I had them come out and extend the hose nozzle to the edge of the deck. I found them on Angie's list and they were offering 15% discount so I went with them. Their recommendation also seemed good so I thought I would go with them. I thought they were professional and fast. He explained to me what he was doing and showed me what he did afterwards. He gave me a choice to do copper or PVC. I was pleased with being able to choose what I wanted. I thought he gave me a fair price and he did it very quickly. I have not had any problems with it since then.

+ -1 moreI called a company Monday (after my 2 yr old threw a ball in the toliet as it was flushing) and they said they would be out Tuesday. Tuesday afternoon they called me and said they would be out Wednesady afternoon instead. I called them back Wednesday afternoon and asked if they were coming and they said no. I got on Angies List and looked up Earls because I see their truck in my neighborhood often. I called 4:30pm and they said they would be out the next day. They did not commit to a time but called just after 9:00am. to say they were on their way. Glen was our plumber and he was awesome. He was in and out in no time. He didnt for one second give off the impression he didnt want to work on our toliet and our toliet was horrible. (one of the kids pottied in it Monday and it had been sitting in the toliet for over 3 days and STUNK!) He was very personable and had an awesome attitude throughout the whole process. Their prices are very reasonable and the customer service (from the secretary to the plumber) matched if not exceeded the quality of the work! You dont need to look any further than Earls!

When he entered my home and I described the problem, he assured me that he knew exactly what to do. He ran a cable through the out going line of the drum trap into the sewer line to clear it. He then filled and dumped the bath tub several times after line was clear. Water was no longer backing up over drum trap. I am very pleased with the service I recieved and would recommend them to anyone who needs a plumber.
Description of Work: My bathtub drum trap was backing up onto the floor. I called Earl's that morning about 9:00 and the plumber was at my home about 11:00. Within 30:00 minutes my problem was solved.

Selected Earl's Plumbing and Heating for their overall rating and the $30.00 off coupon included with their listing. Called Earl's Plumbing and heating at the beginning of the day, Dispatcher promised a plumber would call back 30-60 minutes before arriving and that a plumber would arrive the same day. Plumber (Glenn) called later that same day and made appointment to fix the problem. Plumber arrived, diagnosed problem as algae growth clogging A/C drain line. Plumber snaked out the line and verified it was now clear. Plumber accepted both $30.00 off coupon print t and payment via credit card. Whole process took less than 1/2 hour. Drain line has remained free.
Description of Work: Plumber (Glenn) arrived at specified time. Diagnosed the problem correctly. (Clogged A/C drain line) . Fixed the problem. and verified fix.

It was a complicated place for the crack to occur because it was a "T" pipe (I believe that is the term) and was placed directly next to my water line. Mr. Larry and his partner were dispatched from Earl's Plumbing & Heating, L.L.C. to confirm the diagnosis. They were prompt, polite, experienced, and told me all of the circumstances and potential issues surrounding my cracked pipe and it's repair including an accurate quote for the repair. Mr. Larry and his partner also repaired a leaking toilet in my house a few months prior to this visit. On my service date, they arrived promptly, completed the repair in less time that estimated, explained what they had done, etc. Mr. Larry and his partner also swept up my garage to remove any debris they caused. Poor guys cleaned up my mess too! I cannot say enough about the service I received. I am a single woman, leery of any service person, and felt confident and safe in their assessment and, most importantly, with Mr. Larry and his partner. I hope I don't have any more plumbing issues in the future but if I do, I will call Earl's.

+ -1 moreAll off Earl's service technicians were all wonderful, pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. They arrived at my rental property on time to perform the initial code inspection and gave me a reasonable quote to make the required repairs. They also arrived as scheduled to make the repairs after the roof vent for the dryer vent was available. They led me through the entire process of having the gas service restored to the house which included the scheduling of the parish inspector. On the day of the inspection, a senior technician arrived early to make sure that all of the repairs had been completed properly. He found a couple of minor issues and addressed them before the inspection. I am very satisfied and will use Earl's in the future for my own residence.
Description of Work: I had Earl's performed a gas code inspection and related repairs prior to having a rental house gas service restored after a year without service. The repairs included pressure testing the entire system, the replacement of non-code isolation valves for the gas stove, dryer and water heater and the installation of a code compliant gas dryer vent from the ground floor, through the attic and roof. They also brought my water heater vent up-to-code with a double-walled vent pipe and gas supply line.

Description of Work: Water heater broke Sunday night and caused flood damage in home. Earl's Plumbing removed the broken heater and replaced with a new heater and pan/ drain to allow future leaks to empty outside the home.

+ -1 moreAs part of the inspections before buying a house, our Realtor gave us a list of 3 plumbing contractors to conduct an inspection of the underslab plumbing. After checking the reviews on Angie's List, we selected Earl's. The Realtor scheduled the appointment to coincide with our other inspections. They arrived shortly after the inspections were underway and got right to work. They coordinated well with the general inspector so that they could turn off the water and not interfere with the general inspector. After they were done, they showed us a map of the house indicating where they found 3-4 breaks in the lines. They gave us a rough estimate of the cost of repairs, and a DVD showing the camera going through the plumbing. The next day, they gave us a full report and detailed time and cost estimate. We were able to use this information to request that the seller make the repairs as a condition of sale. The seller contracted with Earl's and paid for the repairs. I don't know exactly how long it took, but the repairs were completed well before our closing date.
Description of Work: Pre-purchase inspection of underslab plumbing, using a videocamera. They found several breaks in the lines, so the sellers of the house contracted with Earl's to tunnel under the house and repair the lines. Once they got under the slab, they found an additional break that they also repaired.
