Description of Work: Haydel Heating & AC installed the AC in my new house. I bought the house in the winter so didn’t use my AC for about 6 months. When it finally got hot in June it didn't cool, so I called Haydels, as they were they ones who installed it and it was under warranty. It took them over 2 weeks during the summer to finally come by after I reported the problem to them. I have two small kids living with me, I had to send them to live with a friend as the house was unbearably hot. Finally they came and said it was low on Freon. I asked them to do a Freon leak check because I know an AC is a closed system and the pressures should stay constant unless there is a leak. They said it wasn’t necessary to do a leak test as it was installed in the winter and the pressures are different in the winter. Anyway they didn’t check for leaks and just put Freon in, and it did start to cool the house. I was explained by the first worker at the first visit that their warranty for a new AC is for only one year. From the time they installed it till the time we bought the house until it got hot enough to use it was 10 months and they weren´t going to do a leak test on the first visit. So I was worried that it was going to not work right after the warranty expired on a brand new unit and I would be left with a big bill because of a mistake from the installation and now it´s past the warranty date. I called Matthew and he assured me he was reputable and would fix it free of charge if the problem resulted from a leak during installation even after the warranty period. That put me at ease, and several months later when it wouldn´t cool again, A few months later it didn’t cool again so I called again. It took a week for them to finally come out; he did send a worker out to do a leak test and they found a leak outside by the condensing unit. They soldered the leak and filled it with Freon. This summer the AC wasn´t cooling again and the condensing unit outside was making a lot of noise. I called Haydel AC again and let Matthew the owner listen to the noise on the phone. The owner, Matthew, said it sounded like a clogged dryer filter and that he would send a worker the next day. I stayed home the next day, but no one ever came, and they never called back. I let 10 days pass by as it was still cooling a little bit, but would never go lower than 80, but the outside condenser unit was now making a lot more noise. Then I started calling them 3 days in a row but they never answered the messages that I left. Finally yesterday Matthew called and promised to send a worker at 9 AM the next day. The worker, Ross, found a restriction in a liquid line dryer that was making all the noise. He removed the dryer and the problem was fixed and presented a $630 bill. I explained to Ross if the system was left open for 10 months after installation (a leak in the AC line at the condenser for 10 months) in the beginning; if that could have caused the dryer to get clogged. He answered in the affirmative. I then talked to Matthew the owner on the phone, at how I believed that I believed the current problem was the result of improper work done at the beginning (there was a leak in a line from the original installation.) That first leak has caused all these subsequent repair trips to my house. I believe that he or his company should take some responsibility , if not total responsibility for the current AC problem in our house. I believe that because there was a leak in the line at the compressor since the installation, water/air or uncompressibles had gotten into the system and had restricted the dryer. That´s what a dryer does, it takes out water and air that inadvertently gets into the system. because they installed it and they have been the only people to work on it, they must have somehow inadvertently caused this problem. 20 years ago, I was an AC repairman for South West AC in Miami. I can think of no other reason that the dryer would get clogged this early except the system was opened to air (10 months opened to air in the beginning) or a faulty installation in the beginning. When I shared this with Matthew, he immediately got mad at me and wouldn´t listen to what I had to say. He told me to never call him again, and told me I would be receiving a call. (I interpreted that to mean his lawyer would call and he would sue me.) So for four reasons I would highly recommend that you DON´T USE Haydels AC. First: they have extremely poor customer service. They almost never answer their phone, and when you leave a message they might never get back to you. Of the three times I’ve needed them to come and repair my AC that they installed, there’s been an average of two weeks waiting for them to come. Unacceptable. Number two: he promised to repair for free what was caused by a leak due to a faulty installation and then later gets mad at me and says he´s going to have his people call me, (Sue me). Number three: Shoddy work. I already told you about the leak that was caused by faulty installation practices. Today when the workman came. he found out that both schreider valves were leaking, Probably damaged from the second technician welding the leak in the line. He didn´t follow proper procedure to protect and insulate the valves. This would most likely have caused damage later on if not discovered today. And fourth, you can´t talk to them to explain problems without them getting mad and threatening you. Sincerely Robert Haskell
