As stated above, the initial response in the first 48 hours was good. However, in our opinion, services became progressively problematic. We were given specific time lines for certain things to happen, which were not adhered to. For example, although I was told my antique piano would be moved the very first week by piano movers, this did not happen despite follow-up inquiries by us. The piano was finally moved three weeks later by Rainbow and not a professional piano moving company as promised. Nearly $1,000 was charged to secure the house, and cover the roof with tarp where the fire had burned through. However, this was not done completely or effectively, and required multiple phone calls to Rainbow to repair and fix their work. The response to these requests were, in our opinion, unprofessional both in the tone and content of the messages, were very defensive and demonstrated an unwillingness to work together to problem solve. Ultimately, the roof had to be completely re-tarped by another company because of the inadequacy of the initial repair. This was the case despite no abnormal or severe weather in the interim that could have damaged Rainbow's initial repair. Our insurance company was in complete agreement that this re-tarping was necessary. When we received the bill from Rainbow, which we then submitted to our insurance company, there were over 100 errors on it, including billing for things that were never done, or even supposed to have been done. This required us going through the invoice line by line with our agent while walking through the house and documenting what had not been done but had been billed for. We investigated storage options closer to our location and were able to find more than adequate space for much less money than Rainbow was charging. The amount of space they claimed was necessary was actually much more than we truly required, and was significantly more expensive. We subsequently had our items moved from Rainbow's storage to our own units. Upon inspecting several of the boxes and other items, we found that many things still smelled of smoke and did not appear to have been cleaned well; excessive tape and wrapping was used, and used even for unbreakable items that did not require that level of packing protection; boxes were not packed efficiently and many were only half-full. Despite the copious amounts of wrapping, several items were broken in the boxes. Several of the lists of discarded items were incomplete and often unhelpful, using categories such as "bag of clothes, curtain and bedding", even when other lists listed every single CD by name, which is not necessary and is not helpful. The above is not an exhaustive list of what we (my sister and I who co-own the house) found troubling and frustrating but it is a decent representation. Overall, our experience with Rainbow was very negative and frustrating. This was particularly the case as they were hired just mere hours after a very serious destructive fire to our home, when things were chaotic and traumatizing. I was burned in the fire and had to be transported to the burn unit. I lost approximately 75% of my belongings and my sister approximately 40%. We were in a vulnerable state and needed efficient and competent help, which we do not feel we received from Rainbow. Unfortunately, this company provides services in emergent situations when you really don't have the time or presence of mind to vet and compare.
Description of Work: Initial contact with Rainbow was made on my behalf after a serious house fire and I was in the ER. Rainbow did respond quickly, pumped out water from the fire hoses, and boarded up the house. They were contracted to do de-construction and clean-up, and secure the house after the fire, and to keep a detailed account of what was saved from the house and what had to be discarded. Items that could be saved were packed up and transported to their warehouse. They provided cleaning for items that could be cleaned from smoke damage. They offered storage facilities for our belongings.
