A few weeks before closing on the home we started finding several problems with the house. A few of the issues were fixed prior to closing, but even after we moved in, we continued to have problems with the house. At closing, the upgraded wood flooring we had purchased was still not glued down properly. The project manager attempted to re-glue the floors, which only made large visible holes in the floors. The floor was also not flush with the walls in the foyer, and instead of repairing the issue, the installer used wood colored caulk to fill in the gap. We also had 3 roof leaks in the first year. Our master bathroom shower leaked into our master closet soon after moving in. Shivers sent a plumber to repair it, and he only re-caulked on several occasions. We discovered on our own that the drain was not installed properly, and we had the damage fixed ourselves. The fireplace mantle starting pulling away from the wall within the first year. Shivers did come by to fix it but only caulked behind the gap. After that repair, the mantle again pulled away from the wall. It was brought to our attention by a third party that the drywall is bowed out in the section the mantle is attached. Our only option is to pull the mantle down and start over. Minor issues include large scratches on both of our bathroom countertops that were apparently made during installation. The painting job was poor. The kitchen countertops were made of ceramic tile with a wooden trim. The trim lasted about a year before looking horrible. This material is extremely impractical for a kitchen. The carpet in the bedrooms is extremely cheap, and we were told by a carpet cleaner that it should be replaced soon. After only 5 years, we are now in the middle of a major remodel. We are replacing the poorly installed wood flooring, which is costing more to have removed (because it was glued down) as it is to have new floor installed. We are getting the entire house repainted. We have torn down the mantle and are starting from scratch with a floating wood beam to avoid the same issues we have been having. We are also replacing the extremely impractical kitchen countertops and scratched bathroom countertops.
Description of Work: I purchased a spec home form Shivers Homes in 2006.
