My wife and I spoke to several people about this remodeling job. However, the minute we met the owners of TDG construction, we were convinced that this would be the company for us. First of all, when my wife and I decided to remodel our bathrooms we thought of new showers and toilets .The owner of TDG, Ms. Pat Raaz, saw the potential of much more than new toilets and showers. Immediately she and her staff came up with plans to utilize space that would make our bathrooms much more than we had envisioned. They designed a bedroom bathroom that only an experience person could think of. They came in and expanded a small bedroom closet to spacious walk in closet. Their design for the bedroom bath was even more incredible. The shower wall and floor was tiled with excellent craftsmanship. The shower space was designed and crafted to be more spacious and luxurious. Every inch of space that could be used was used. This was so far beyond what my wife and I had in mind. This bathroom, walk in closet and linen closet are truly remarkable. To see it evolve from the mind of Mrs Raaz to the design stage and to the actual remodeling process was miraculous in my eyes. She has such a keen eye for design. The main bathroom of our home was the next project. Needless to say that in a house that was built in the 1980's, the bathroom was simply outdated. Once again TDG construction designed a masterpiece. Their design and construction resulted in a more spacious and modern bathroom. Thanks to TDG construction we are enjoying our remodeled bathrooms and closets. The ideas that they brought forth were amazing. Now we are reaping the benefits of this extraordinary company.

Too slow, invoices came in over quoted price. Workers were friendly, owner is difficult to get along with. Most of their labor is contract, never know who will be coming to the house. Much of the hardware and at least one light fixture installed has fallen off the walls or out of the ceiling, had to have another electrician come out an unscramble electrical work inside swith plates.

Response from Invest In Your Kitchen & Bath, TDG Construction
Response: The project for the Millers was in done in 2011 (not 2013 as stated by the homeowner). The initial project was for the complete tear our and remodel of two bathrooms. The master bath had a sunken tub that penetrated below the slab.“ It was a major renovation to move plumbing and repair the slab. We installed a custom shower with a glass enclosure, an upscale jetted tub and new cabinetry, and a custom closet to create a lovely contemporary spa bathroom. The hall bath was renovated to remove the tub and create an oversized custom shower. You can see these projects on our website. The client did not make mention in the review of the major elements of this project; project design, demolition, sheetrock, painting, molding and trim, custom closets, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, wall tile, floor tile, replacement window, cabinetry, tub, toilets, tub controls, shower controls, custom glass shower enclosures. The client did not mention any of these elements, so it appears that he was satisfied with the majority of the work. I estimate that the elements that I just listed comprise about 92% - 95% of the project. Both of the completed bathrooms were visually quite lovely with high-end finishes and improved functionality. The work done in additional rooms was added as change orders. In retrospect, we made a mistake in accepting this work for painting, chair rails, installing new ceiling fans, and light fixtures, changing doors, gun cabinet, safe, custom cabinets and a fairly long list of small repairs and installations. These smaller elements seem to be the issues that the homeowner has concerns about. The clients are a lovely couple with a beautiful older home that needed a variety of updates and repairs. The gentleman is an oil company executive who travels out of state and out of the country. During the time we worked at the home, the wife had medical issues and seldom left the home. Her medical and medication issues were a challenge to our work. In retrospect, we should have finished the bathrooms instead of allowing her to continue adding change orders. I would like to address the specific issues mentioned by the client: “Too slow” From our records, our initial contract for bathrooms was completed in a timely manner, although the wife did make change orders to paint and tile and cabinetry that impacted progress. “Invoices came in over quoted price” Invoices are adjusted based on change orders. We don’t like change orders. They slow down a project and alter the timeline. We only proceed with a change order when the scope of work and price have been approved by the client. When approved, the change order is added to the contract and the invoice. The additional charges on this project were from project elements added by the homeowners, not from us increasing prices on contract items. This is a very important distinction. “Owner is difficult to get along with”. I am so sorry for this perception. “Most of the labor is contract, never know who is coming to the house” We have specialized workers for different project elements: Tear out and haul away, Plumbing, Drywall/Paint, Electrical, Framing, Trim Carpentry, Tile, Glass, etc. These areas each require specific skills and so it ends up being a number of different workers. We use the same workers on each contract, and I can understand that it can appear that a homeowner might feel that they never know who is going to be working at their home. We assign specific tasks to each worker and we know our workers very well. “At least one light fixture fell off the wall”. Not having more information about this issued, I am remembering we had concern about one ceiling fan/light fixture installation. The homeowner had ordered it from the internet and it arrived damaged and missing some parts. It was an expensive purchase and she could not return it. We fabricated missing pieces but could not guarantee it. “had to have another electrician come out an unscramble electrical work inside switch plates” I don’t have enough information to address this issue. In summary, this was a large scale project that was completed according to the contract and met or exceeded the owners expectations for the majority of the work. The issues that were mentioned as problems did not involve the initial contract for renovating 2 bathrooms. The homeowner is leaving a review on Angie’s List approximately 3 ½ years after the work was completed in 2011. After 3 1/2 years of use, he has no issues with the major components of our remodeling. If he had contracted us about the minor issues, we would have worked with him to correct any problems.

The family is very friendly. They had good ideas, but their ideas didn't work in our situation. They seemed to want to renovate our kitchen the same as the previous one they did, including materials, even though I kept telling her exactly what I wanted. One of the drawings blocked the doorway and did not take into consideration that there was a brick wall there that we had no intentions of moving. When I told her this, she kept arguing with me and then asked me to take pictures of the wall and e-mail them to her, even though they had already taken pictures. She obviously didn't think that the wall was where I told her it was. We paid $1200 up front for her to do the designs. When we finally got so frustrated, I called and told her that we were not going to be able to work together. She asked what I would like to do and I asked if we could get some of our money back. She said she would give us half of our money back. I was glad to at least get some of the money back, but spent $600 for nothing, except a lesson learned. I don't know what the answer is. I realize that a designer can't give you a design and take a chance on not getting paid for it, but I know that we will never give anyone that much money upfront again.

We worked with the clients about a year ago...January- March 2014. Our two designers and site supervisor made 5 site visits. They came to our office 3 times to view designs on our 3D design computer. We had lots of phone conversations and e-mail exchanges. We also took the clients to view kitchen remodeling projects that we had recently completed. We explored 5 possible floor plans with preliminary designs, and compiled 2 different final design proposals. The work took place over about 2 1/2 months. In 2014 we completed 33 design projects. This one was unique.... it took the longest and resulted in us refunding half of our fees. When we met the clients, they had retired and recently purchased their home of about 3,000 sq. ft. The setting is lovely!. The downside of the home is the small outdated galley style (long and narrow) kitchen. They asked us to make it larger, more functional and "family friendly". In order to accomplish those objectives, one of the walls would need to move. One of our designs included removing part of the old brick feature wall in order to achieve better traffic flow, updated cabinets/appliances and room for family activities. The second design opened into the dining room. None of our designs "blocked a doorway", but instead opened spaces for better traffic flow. Truly, we hit a "brick wall" in working with the clients. We felt it was appropriate to make a refund of half of the fees, even though we gave them two completed designs. During the time we worked together, the clients had several life changes. Their two pre-school aged grand children came to live with them. The female home-owner began having sciatic (back and leg) pains. Clearly, it was not the time to move ahead on a kitchen remodeling project. This review comes almost a year after we began their project. I can see from the homeowners comments that she had regrets about not being able to move ahead with making her kitchen more attractive and functional. I believe that I was able to satisfy clients on all the other design projects we completed this year. I wanted to meet the clients needs and desires, but was not able to do so. No matter how long and hard our design team works, out job is not complete until the client is satisfied,

In the end, I hired Lowes to install countertop. The communicate was not that great as they sub-contract. I got a great product for a good price. I am still working with another contractor on the bathroom but project has not started as this date.
Description of Work: Project...new countertop in kitchen, new tub unit, vanity in hall bath, new vanity in master bathroom I contacted this company Nov, 2013...might have even been late Oct. I think they have a great gift for design and very nice showroom for samples. I visited showroom once and they came to the house once. We also spoke on the phone and communicated by e-mail. In the end, I never could get an estimate. I realize now after more resource, I set a budget too low for the job. Why not just tell me that? Sadly, they wasted their time and my time.

Of course, we don't like to hear that a potential client was disappointed. We did have communication with the member over a two month period, but we never proposed a scope of work to her. She had a variety of projects that she wanted to address with a budget of $7,500. We did a site visit and proposed that she prioritize her bathroom and kitchen remodeling projects so we could help address the top priorities. She called us and sent several e-mails with new ideas about what she wanted to do, which in effect expanded her projects but not her budget. I told her we were not a good match for working together. I am sorry to hear that seven months later, she is still looking for a contractor and feels that we let her down. We gave her ideas but were not willing to enter into a contract.

I did not reschedule. Missed out on big remodel job!
Description of Work: Returned my email within a week. I have a big remodel job and getting contractors in to look at the project and give a bid. Ms pat made an appointment with me...which is very hard to make time during the week to meet with contactirs. Come appointment time...no show. I had to call and and was told their other jobs were more important and they did not have time for me. Lack of professionalism! A simple call for reschedule would have surficed. Wasted my time! Most importantly. .made me feel new clientele is not welcome.

The member is a daycare operator who has a home based business and wants to renovate her facility. She is located near our office. She wanted me to come to see her on a Monday during the time that the children took their naps. I told her that I don't usually make new clients visits on Mondays because its a busy day for jobs that are under construction. I told her I would put it on my schedule and try to come at 2:30 as she requested. She called me at 2:45 and was upset. My time allocation always gives priority to existing projects in the construction phase. Most of our new client visits are scheduled on Saturday, but she was not available for any of the Saturday's I suggested. I don't think that we could accomplish her goals of scheduling around the operation of her day care business. I was not interested in re-scheduling.

It went really well for the most part. The work was excellent, my only complaint would be that there were a few times that the communication was off in terms of the crew showing up. Other than that it was a great experience. I highly recommend them.

This review is a big surprise to me. We did spend 7 weeks with the client---- including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years---as well as his surgery and hospitalization. The bathroom remodel involved reconfiguring his bedroom, bathroom and closet as well as moving doorways into the living room and kitchen. There was a significant amount of sheetrock and slow drying time during a wet winter. Workers are not scheduled to go every day to a job site in a bath remodel. Scheduling of each work element has to be adjusted based on completion of prior phases. Scheduling is especially difficult during holidays. We gave him an option to wait until after holidays to start construction. I personally visited him after construction was completed and asked for feedback. He told me he was pleased except for two things. He showed me an inside back corner of the tile countertop where a tile was cut in order to fit. He also showed by a wooden closet rod that was scratched. You can see this beautiful contemporary bathroom on our website. It took a while to complete this custom bath project. From our point of view, the outcome was not what was described by the client.

Contacted TDG to do a remodel. We showed them the house and told them our budget and asked them if we could get the job done for that price and they assured us that it was not an issue. They were quick to meet, seemed professional enough however asked for $1000 to do a design and quote for the remodel. They stated it would take a week and although we were hesitant to give money to someone before they gave us a price we handed them a $1000 check. There was never a design done for the house and it took them 3 weeks to give a quote. Once they actually met up with us the quote was double what our budget was and they mentioned in the bid that a large portion of the work do be done was going to have to be done by us to keep the pricing lower. The asked double our budget and expected us to do a lot of the work ourselves?? Super unprofessional I would never use these guys and suggest no one else does either. Anyone who asks for money to give you a quote is a thief and I should have never given these crooks a penny. After we called them out on our issues with them they stated that they felt we were not comparable to do business with and took our money and ran.

Response from Invest In Your Kitchen & Bath, TDG Construction
In July of 2013, the client asked us for help with a very unusual project. They had purchased and begun renovation on The Sidney Martin Residence. This magnificent home was built in 1803 and is on the National Historic Register. They had spent approximately $150,000 on the renovations and were distressed that the home was still not inhabitable after two years of renovation. When we sent to see this beautiful three-story structure with more than 3,000 square feet, we could understand the owner’s distress. Some of the significant architectural features were altered; plumbing and electrical codes were not followed; functional design was incompatible with contemporary living. None of the renovation projects was complete, making the whole home unlivable. In our opinion, the bottom line was that most of the money spent on the renovation had impact the historic character and had created an awkward and unattractive living space. The client told us that his final remaining money to spend was $50,000 and his desire was to be in the house for Christmas. Although historic renovation is not our specialization, we thought we could help find a solution to their dilemma. In order to assist the homeowners, we brought in a four-member team with special skills related to the project. We spent several hours walking through the home in order to capture the homeowners desires related to the project. Our group consensus was that what the homeowners wanted done would cost more than $150,000 and that additional money would need to be spent to correct code violations and problems created by the incomplete renovations. The projects, which were begun but not completed, extended through every room on all 3 floors---not one room was finished. Materials and supplies were scattered throughout the property. Bottom line---it was a “melemellange” (French for a big mess). We could tell that there were conflicting desires by the husband and wife owners. We suspected that the contractors experienced conflicting communication, a difficult work environment and that projects were incomplete because contractors did not get paid. The Sidney Martin Residence is an important structure to the area’s history. It is Lafayette Parishes oldest remaining home. It has a grand façade and deserves attention and preservation. We told the owners that we did not want to perform any renovation work on the project, but that we could help them in getting the project back on track. Our 4-member team proposed a contract for $2,000 to create a renovation plan with the following elements: 1. To access all the projects to be completed 2. To list all the upgrades desired by the owners 3. 3. To list all potential code violations that needed attention 4. To inventory all supplies on site 5. To list all supplies still needing to be purchased 6. To prioritize the projects to identify what should be addressed with a $50,000 budget so that subcontractors could be hired for each specialty area 7. To identify contractors who could do work in each of the specialty areas We signed a contract with the client for a $2,000 fee for services, with $1,000 payable at the beginning of the project, and $1,000 payable upon completion. The team worked for three weeks to create a coherent plan that the client could execute. We delivered both a written and verbal report. The budget allocation for the project was $48,910. When we met with the clients, they were disappointed that we had focused the budget on completion of projects rather than allocation for “upgrades”. They refused to pay us the remaining $1,000 of our contract. We were not surprised. The team assembled by TDG Construction did what we could to help the clients. The project took place last summer. The client posted his review on Angles list just before Christmas. I suspect that they are still not living in the home. If they had followed the plan that we outlined, they could be living in the home for Christmas as they had hoped.

This job started with Pat designing our new bathrooms. One bathroom was new counter top, sink, toilet, paint & fixtures. The other bathroom was a complete gut and rebuild. Pats first design was just what we wanted. We were very impressed with the skills and politeness of the workers. We trusted them with our home even when we went on a vacation. They were all very skilled craftsmen and would clean up every day before they left. We would recommend this company to anyone and would use again.

It's been wonderful. They have done everything I could have ever asked for. They were very savvy for what we were trying to do, which was get the house ready for sale. They were very economical and recycled cabinets etc. whenever possible. The owner, Pat Raaz, assembles a crew very knowledgeable and experienced in their field. They did very good work for a good/fair price. The tile and carpentry work was exquisite. They do what's needed and what we were asking for. Pat has been helpful beyond what I expected. Her experience with real estate and remodeling has been a god send. It was economical and fit our budget, and the results are very professional. We went in with a general idea, and she has been able to help us refine and go forward in many different areas. I highly recommend-Invest in Your Kitchen & Bath,TDG Construction!

Beginning with the design phase I felt like they didn't LISTEN to my preferences. I had to force and insist that they include features that I desired. I even gave them pictures of what I wanted. When they began the work, it moved quickly at first, then after about a month they began moving their workers to other jobs and kept only a skeleton crew at my house. As they began to install cabinets we realized they were not the specific type cabinets that I had EXPRESSLY requested, so then we had to wait for the new cabinets to arrive and they wanted me to pay the upcharge, even tho THEY had made the error. I was not happy with some of their workmanship, I had to keep pointing out things that had to be corrected. I even had to call them back to do it again. The countertops were cut crooked around the sink and they said it couldn't be fixed. I have to live with that. The under-counter lighting was a mess with wire nuts exposed and holes in the walls. They admitted to me that they had never installed this type before. And even after I complained they would not come back and re-do them. 6 months after "completion" I let them know that I would be finding another electrician to fix their mess and then they wanted to come back, which I would not allow. They did not order the proper fitting pantry unit for my cabinetry, then wanted me to pay, again, the cost and said they would install it at no charge. Only they had no clue how to install it and my husband finally had to install it to fit. I like the look of the kitchen, it is much more functional that before, but I can't help but remember the nightmare it was and going over-budget by $10K because they didn't foresee necessary expenses that an experiences architect/building should have known.

Our renovation project for the Member included removing all the sheetrock, moving walls, opening a pass through counter into the living area, installing new cabinets, work island, countertops, backsplash, oven tower, oversized cook top and custom hood, sink/faucet, wood flooring, lighting fixtures, under counter lighting, painting, trim molding, etc. You can see the before and after pictures at www.InvestInYourKitchen.com. With all those elements completed in our renovation, Member has mentioned 6 issues that I want to address. 1. When we work with clients on design, we have to do “reality check” with what they client sees on TV and in magazines and what is optimal to fit within the budget and the structural elements of their home. We are attentive listeners and we help clients sort through their priorities. Not every desire can be accommodated. 2. Member wanted drawers in her cabinet under the cook top. When we installed the cook top cabinet it had doors with pull out drawers inside the doors. She wanted drawer fronts instead of doors, so we ordered and installed those at a slight charge. She also wanted to make a change to the design of the custom hood over the range. We ordered those pieces and there was a charge for that design change. It took 15 days for those parts to be received and installed. 3. We installed an under mounted silgranit sink. The reveal (edge) of the sink cutout went from 1/4” to 5/8” approximately. We felt that it was within a reasonable tolerance and asked her “Can you live with this ----it will be very costly re re-install the entire counter section”. She said she could and we went on to the next task. 4. We installed an under counter LED light system that has exposed wires and connections under the counter in one corner. She is not the only client who did not like that type if installation. We now use a new system and offered to upgrade her lights, but Member declined. 5. Due to space limitations, the only size pantry that we could put in the Member's kitchen was 33”. So with her approval, we designed and installed a pantry with 4 pull outs to give full access to the bottom section. After installation of the pantry, Member saw a pantry system online that folds out and so she asked that we modify and install it. We did so, but she did not like the results. She and her husband did a different modification that they liked. 6. The Member's asked that we design a kitchen project based on a $35,000 to $40,000 budget. We did so and signed a contact. After we began the project, they added about $10,000 in additional projects. They decided to install new wood flooring, paint adjacent rooms, install lighting, etc. The resulting increases were at their discretion and were all done through signed change orders. These change orders caused a change in the timeline of the project, and we left a small crew to continue at the Member's while the rest of the crew went on to our next scheduled project. We spoke over the phone regarding kitchen and bath remodeling but we are kind of a stand still on our project. We are not going to do anything at this time. When I contacted them, they were very nice. I spoke to them probably about a month ago. We just spoke over the phone and we were going to meet but I had to call them to put it on hold. The lady that I spoke to was very helpful and answered some of the questions that I had. She was very professional. The information she provided was very helpful. She was professional and very informative. She called me back right away.

They were the type of people where we felt very comfortable having in our house and giving them a key or code to get in. They were so trusting and trustworthy. They were good kids. We felt very safe letting them into our home. The price was reasonable.
Description of Work: We used Invest In Your Kitchen, TDG Construction, to put in windows and door in our home. They redid a bathroom upstairs earlier in the year for about $6,000 also.

Invest in your kitchen arrived on time to begin the install. Once the French door was installed they added border to smooth out and complete the look. The entire process was completed in one day. I used them before to remodel my bathrooms and they delivered quality work once again for this project. Do yourself a favor and check out their website, investinyourkitchen.com, to see what all they can do for you.

I received several bids to remodel both of my small bathrooms. Invest in your Kitchen came in quite a bit lower than the other bids so I gave them a shot at it. Harvey and his crew are very professional and perform great work while minimizing costs but maintaining quality. He even had several recommendations during the remodel that they could do just a bit differently to reduce costs even more while maintaining the look and feel that I wanted. They go the extra mile to do the small things that weren't necessarily included in the bid but make the job look complete and polished. I recommend them to anyone and plan on using them in the future for other improvements that I have planned.
Description of Work: Harvey and his team remodeled both of my bathrooms. They installed a new tub/shower combo in the guest bath and a walk-in shower in the master bath. They also tiled the floors and the walls and installed a new vanity and sink in the master bath.

Although the work took a little longer than initally planed, this is a very common issue. It's hard to exactly estimate the condition of elements in constrution line until the walls are open, but my goal is not to give the home owner many "suprises" or extras as some contractors price gouge once the construction has begun. If it is an easy fix I usually just eat the cost and only approach the customer if there is a major issue. Again I want a customer to realize that they are getting honest, reliable, craftsmanship.
