The bookcases are very sturdy. The staff was very patient. I was able to look through their entire warehouse to find the bookcases. They gave me a discount and delivered the bookcases on time and in good condition.

This company specializes in high quality unfinished furniture, kitchens, etc. They have a large stock of their own designs and will do custom work to your specifications. They also will finish your item(s) to your specifications at an additional charge, and have an almost limitless choice of finishes.
I shopped online and found that they had the exact dining table that I wanted at a very reasonable price, then went to their store to see the various finishes and order the table. The various finished pieces they had on display were gorgeous with flawless and professional craftsmanship. I was told that the finishing would require 2-3 weeks. It turned into five.
The late delivery was no big deal, but when I got the table home I was dismayed. All of their furniture is solid wood (Parawood), and the top of my small table for kitchen use was assembled in strips of varying length and a width about like oak hardwood flooring. This looks very nice because if you have a clear or semitranslucent finish you can see the wood grain and color shadings as with a single slab of wood.
My table was to be done in black, and I was shown a piece in that finish that was just what I wanted: not a jet black laquered finish but a bit of "see-through" to the wood grain. In retrospect, the sample piece I was shown was a small cabinet or end table that probably was made of wider boards, but when I looked at mine (unfortunately not until I got it home), flaws and mistakes jumped out at me.
Apparently, it hadn't been sanded properly and/or the finish was a bit too thin: In many places, where the ends of two strips come together, it looks like a scratch; in a couple of places it was sanded too deep and has the look of buckled plywood; there are two small places that are actually scarred, as though something had been dropped and cut into the wood (this is not an old table and not meant to look old - these are not 'distress' marks); and, overall, the table top appears to not have been filled before or after sanding. This latter isn't really detrimental to the appearance except that there is too much of it, and in some places you can actually feel the wood grain. However, in fairness, I had made it clear that I didn't want the opaque lacquered look, and this could have been an effort to do what I asked.
Now for the "DISCLAIMER" - I hated giving this a "D" rating because there are other factors contributing. It is black and sitting in front of a window so that every tiny flaw shows in the glare; at night it looks fine. The table is one of their stock designs, and it is elegant and very well crafted, as was all of the stock on display in their store.
Further, and this is important, at the beginning of the review when you are asked if you would use their services again, instead of just yes or no, there should be a maybe button, because I would consider them again for some custom bookcases that I need. In addition, I feel bad that I have never said a word to them about this disatisfaction and don't want them to redo it but am criticizing them here. Everyone should be given the opportunity to 'make good' if you aren't satisfied.
This is just one experience of one person, and you should give them a chance if they have what you want - and they DO have something unique, lovely, and tasteful going on there.

I heard their radio commercials that always had the quote "friends don't let friends by particle board." I had already been to Lowes and Home Depot for an estimate on kitchen cabinets. Those estimates were in the $16k-18k range (I have a big kitchen!). I called Wood-n-Things, and Torrie scheduled a day to come out to the house and talk over what I wanted. We looked at the kitchen and the bathrooms. She had great ideas and advice. When she drew up things over the next few days and gave me a price of $14,000 for both the kitchen and the bathrooms, I was ecstatic. They have a guy in Dallas who does all their custom work for them, and they finish the furniture here. The quality was fantastic. They accommodated me on many requests. I had photos of specialty drawers that I wanted to include, and they handled them with no problem. It took a while to get all the pieces to New Orleans, finish them, and get them installed, but I couldn't be happier with the quality. Wood-n-things is a family owned store. They've got a showroom in Gretna with lots of unfinished tables, dressers, entertainment centers, coffee tables, etc. They're laid back and easy to work with. Torrie does a great job. Kevin is their installer, and he did a great job while also taking care of any special details I asked for. The bedroom set I ordered through them was from a 3rd party manufacturer out of state. Apparently, I got some of their last pieces as this manufacturer was going out of business. The bed frame had some problems after a short time. Wood-n-things took the frame back to their shop and basically re-worked and re-finished it at no charge to me! They've earned a good reputation in my eyes! It took a while to get some things done. But they went the extra mile to make my new home look phenomenal.
