Don Goodworth and his partner Doug are two of the nicest people you will ever meet, and very talented carpenters to boot. They removed old gates from both sides of the house and replaced them. The quality and precision of the work was outstanding, and better than any other I have seen in the neighborhood, excellent workmanship. I need to take pictures to add to the review to show just how great a job they did. Don and Doug went over and above to make sure that it was done right and that their work would last. I would think that these gates will last 30 or 40 years based on the way they were constructed. The price was reasonable and well worth it. I know some people gush about how great people are; however, in this case it is well deserved. My neighbors were asking for his cards to have some work done for them. I can see why he is in such high demand, I have other work I would like to have done around the house, but I will wait until he is available.

Don and his associate, Doug, were very professional, friendly, and accommodated changes we needed to make during the project to address unforeseen issues - bamboo root encroachment that was not visible above ground and drainage issues. The work was top quality. They explained extra steps being taken to correct short-cut work on the original fence that was being replaced after 17 years. All debris from cutting bamboo and tearing down the old fence was removed.
Description of Work: Our fence was rotting and being pushed over in places by bamboo. Don Goodworth replaced the entire fence, which required cutting the bamboo and digging out the roots in addition to the normal work. Also, extra deep holes and extra concrete were needed for some of the fence posts because of low spots that caused water to collect - essential to having strong posts to withstand high winds and heavy rain during storms/hurricanes.

Excellent on all counts: communication, availability, promptness, professionalism, quality of work, clean up. All work completed by Don and his assistant.
Description of Work: Demolition and removal of large children's backyard play set. This is one of the larger sets made of heavy lumber with a two story playhouse, slide and attached swing set. I asked that all material be removed from my property, with nothing left on curb for regular trash pickup. Debris removal is included in the cost of the project.

Mr. Goodworth's crew responded quickly and started excavation and form installation. Pour was conducted on 03/20, the forms was removed on 03/21 and Mr. Goodworth arrived the same day and collected the total amount noted below. I have not seen him since, but I discussed the holiday repairs the the same day and the following Mondays for 3 weeks. He assured me these would be repaired on 03/21 and each of the following phone conversations. It is apparent that he has no intention of effecting holiday repairs so a warranty is a pipe dream. Issues: 1. Raised lumps on top of the finished slab and voids in the concrete along the side (they did not work the sides nor use a vibrator to insure no holidays along the sides; poor workmanship). These have not been repaired and will be something I will have to do personally. 2. They were careless about dropping and not recovering nails during form installation. After recovering 5-3" nails on the drive, I scanned the entire area with a magnet and recovered an additional 5. Keep in mind this is a driveway for two vehicles and for the use of commercial vehicles making deliveries. 3. When Mr. Goodworth and I reached agreement as to price for the works, it was originally $1900.00. The price was worked up from a 4" slab ($1650.00) with an additional $250.00 for an additional inch of concrete. When payment was requested, it had jumped an additional $50.00. While $50.00 is not a lot of money, it gives an indication of the contractor. I have to accept some blame for this because I did not request a signed contractor for the works. Conclusion: Angie's list gave Mr. Goodworth a stellar rating of an "A" in concrete work. It was the sole reason I selected this contractor to do the work. Photo,s can be supplied upon request. I can be reached at 985-892-9639 to discuss an issues on Mr. Goodworth's shortcomings.

Mr. Goodworth installed two bulkheads in summer 2014, but in summer 2015 one of the bulkheads was irreparably damaged by a heavy truck which backed into our driveway and onto the bulkhead without our approval. I contacted Mr. Goodworth and he provided a quote to remove and replace the bulkhead with an identical new bulkhead. However, the start of the job was delayed for several weeks due to a miscommunication. But finally that was resolved and the job was started and completed in short order. The removal of the damaged bulkhead ended up being much more difficult due the robustness of the highstrength concrete and steel mesh used in the design, however, his partner, Mr. Douglas Thompson, spent a Saturday morning personally getting the job done after their contract employees weren't quite up to the task. He honored his original quote. They were professional and friendly. I would definitely consider using them again.
Description of Work: Mr. Goodworth removed a concrete bulkhead next to my driveway and installed a new one identical to it in its place.

Excellent response, but understand there are multiple projects going on at the same time. Our project is somewhat complete, but there are "flourishes" that need to be addressed. The staining of the deck is 90 days out from installation. Our patio door needs an auto closure other than the hinge ones put in. Does not stay closed.

Patio door (didn't buy out swing but instead modified door to swing out, not a perfect solution); replaced porch columns (seem to be fine but didn't prime under paint,so started peeling within a year); walked out in middle of bathroom remodel (installed cabinets wrong; poor carpentry work; replaced tub but didn't add concrete base support between tub bottom and slab). He provided only verbal estimates and small handwritten receipts for payments I paid him daily.

Response from Don Goodworth
This was three years ago. The new posts were preprimed they came out beautifully. We completed what we could with the cabinets but instead of a corner cabinet she just wanted a door and frame in the corner. We told her several times to call us when the countertop people came out to measure so we could figure out what to do. She never called . Saying we walked out is just untrue. They told us we they liked our work. I don't understand why 3 years later she would write something like this. Don

Don was very prompt in contacting me and scheduling the repairs for the door. He had another individual with him that had assisted in the repair. They were both very professional and completed the job timely and it was completed looking like the professional job I expected. The repair included removing the old attic door, purchasing the materials, this included the attic door with aluminum steps, hand rail, and updated hinges that didn't have the springs that warp or bend after years of use. After the door was installed they also ensured the trim was reinstalled, and painted to match the decor of the garage. After they completed the repairs they both policed the area to ensure it was cleaned-up all the tools were picked-up and materials were discarded including the old door and stairs. I will continue to utilize him and his staff when available. Great Job.

Don and his partner came out the day after I called them to give me an estimate. After I accepted, they returned at the beginning of the week, and had the project finished in 2.5 days. They would have been finished in 2 but I asked them at the last minute to add 3 benches to the deck (which they did a great job on). Don's prices are reasonable and I was impressed how they got right to the work and did a quality job in a minimal amount of time. l will ask Don to do future jobs for me. He is knowledgeable, skilled, and courteous.

The following week passed and no one came. When I called Don, he called me back and said they were a bit behind in their current job and would call me in a couple of days. It has now been 10 days and they have not shown up. Apparently if they decide after a handshake agreement to not do the job they just avoid all contact with the customer and move on to other things. He has not returned my emails or text messages. I hear he does good work, but I will never know as I will never call them again.....Unprofessional behavior is not rewarded by me! The work has all been completed by someone else. of day
Description of Work: I asked Don to quote on a repair job on my garage door frames that had wood rot. His assistant, Doug came out the next day and we discussed options. We agreed on what needed to be done and the price, 150.00 plus materials. We shook hands on the deal with the understanding that he would get to it the following week. In fact we were also going to have him hang a ceiling fan after he braced the box in the attic. We were going to have Don perform some electrical work as well.

Response from Don Goodworth
I should have called this gentlemen and advised we weren't going to do the job. Doug did go look at the job when I was out of town. This was simply change out rotten boards on both sides of the garage door. We've done these similar jobs many times. It is a simple job with 1 day completion. The wife said she wanted a piece of the boards cut off at the bottom and replaced with a piece of pvc. She advised Doug she saw these pvc boards a Lowe's . When I returned we both went to Lowe's and Home Depot looking for the boards she was talking about . The only boards in a vinyl or pvc(basically plastic-polyvinylcholoride) were 3/4 inch boards. So to get a 1 1/2 inch boards we would have to double the 3/4" boards to get to 1 1/2" . This would leave a split that would have to be caulked or filled with something like a bondo. This never looks professional-actually it looks terrible. Also the grain from the plastic to wood is very noticeable. We had multiple jobs we were working on at that time . About a week later I asked him if he had called , he thought I had called. Doug said someone else had looked at the job so I assumed someone had it covered. Entirely my fault, however I would have suggested to replace both boards with treated lumber, prime and paint, this should last 20 years. Whomever replaced the boards a couple years prior must have used untreated lumber. Again, sorry.

Everything went fine. We ended up just getting doors replaced. We did not replace the outer. They had to reframe the doors because we had some pretty bad rotting around both of them. They replaced both of the doors, reframed one of them, and they painted and did the finish work. Everything went very well. We did not have any problems getting them out there to give us an estimate. After the estimate, we told them we are deal with them within about a week. I think we are able to schedule them to come out there and they finished it all in one day, which was good. They did do some painting, which probably I would not want them do again because the painting did not as good as the job was. I would use them again; I just would not have them paint. They did it a little too fast. I would do that myself. We actually did call some other people and it would have been a good bid more if we went with anyone else. Quality I would say “B” only because of the painting there are some little splatter marks that were on the tile floor, I guess it was just done too quickly. Everything for the door it is perfect.

Description of Work: Don replaced a lot of rotten wood on our house, recreened the back porch, rehung several doors that had gone out of alignment because of the house settling over the years, and repaired a small piece of the wood floor. He and his worker are excellent carpenters - they have extensive knowledge of how to do things correctly, and they clearly take pride in doing things right. They're efficient and easy to deal with.
