Great! They sharpened the knives while I waited. The cashier Rachel was helpful to point out the items in the store I might be interested in, and I found several potential Christmas presents and some kitchen cutlery

Everything went well. It took 7 weeks for internals to come in from Germany. James installed and gave a quick lesson on the clock. I was happy with the results. The clock is keeping good time now.

Dropped off watch at the Covington, La. branch of Alpine on 3/11 for estimate. Was told that I would be contacted with a free estimate, that the watch needed to be taken to Metairie, La. for the actual repair. Two weeks later (around March 25), I called Alpine in Covington to check on status. The Covington store told me that they had not yet received any information concerning the watch from the Metairie store. I then called Metairie directly, and was told that a sub-contractor who actually performed the work had not had an opportunity to look at the watch. After two more phone calls to the Metairie store over the next week, expressing my displeasure at the inordinately long time that the whole process was taking, Metairie told me that they had finally gotten an estimate back from their sub-repairman. The cost would be $55. I advised that the price was ridiculously high for the replacement of a watch crystal, and that I wanted the watch back. The Metairie store said they didn't know how long it would be before I could pick up the watch in Covington. Metairie said that "procedures" needed to be followed- that the sub had to be contacted, and that he would then deliver the watch back to the Metairie store, etc. On April 7th I again called Metairie to ask when I would have the watch back. They assured me it would be delivered to Covington on the afternoon of April 11th, but I should wait until April 12th to pick it up in Covington "just to make sure." Sat. April 12 rolls around, and Covington did not have my wife's watch. I immediately called Metairie- they still had the watch in their store! Because of the unbelievabIe runaround I had gotten from Alpine, I decided to drive to Metairie to get the watch (62 miles round trip). My wife and I had some real concern that we might never see the watch again if I hadn't made the trip. I let Metairie know that this was the worst service I had received from any company in many years. I basically got a "we are involved with a lot of watch repairs, and occasionally things go wrong. " I don't know how Alpine Jewelers can stay in business- they're horrible! Yesterday, I had the watch repaired at Carl's Fine Jewelery in Covington, one day service and $12 for the new crystal installed. These are very friendly,professional folks who are reasonably priced. Carl repairs watches himself in house. Wish I had known that Carl's was literally just around the corner from where I live; would have saved myself alot of aggravation.
