Burns Construction Of Acadiana

I bought a new construction home from Henry Burns (aka Burns Construction of Acadiana). Henry was very nice at first and was a good salesman. He told me that he lived in the neighborhood and that he has BBQs on Sundays for all his customers. He said he's always around for any problems that I may have, and that after a year, he does a walk-through with each customer to see if anything needs attention. I believed him, and since he did live in the neighborhood, I figured I'd just beat his door down if I had a problem. Anyway, there were a few minor items upon getting a home inspection that needed attention. These things were not done by the time we were ready to close. Henry convinced me that he would do them, and I was anxious to get into the house, so I signed the papers. Needless to say, the issues were NEVER resolved. As an example of an "issue", I had a metal patio roof that was leaking where it met the main part of the house. This was obvious after the first hard rain we had. I could see that there was no pitch to the roof, and that was part of the problem. Henry denied this and avoided my calls and ignored my messages. I eventually got frustrated and decided to have it fixed on my own dime, since dragging him to court was probably going to cost more in the long run. The contractor that fixed it had to pitch the roof and rip up some shingles on the main roof to properly put in new flashing. I also had him tear up the old corrugated metal and put in some better quality material. All that costed me $2,200. I had a half dozen other small probelms that I fixed on my own (stuff that he promosed to do but never did). Talking to my neighbors, they all have similar stories. The guy would have been OK if he would have addressed the issues and not put on such a huge front about how he is such a good neighbor at the beginning. I've never seen him have a BBQ in the neighborhood, and I don't know anyone that lives in the subdivision that likes him. He never did the "1 year checkup" with me. I will say the paintwork and sheetrock in the house are really nice, and that's the first thing you see when you walk in a house. So he knows that and uses it as a selling point. The entry doors are kind of cheap and I have had to refinish them already. I am now getting quotes to have the back door replaced because it is warped. I would not reccomend this contractor to a friend; however, I would have reccomended him if he would have address the issues as he promoised.
