Cedar Fence

Did not start job when expected. I called and was patient for a couple of weeks (I understand weather delays, etc.) One of my last contacts prior to start of job the employee told me that if I continued calling I would make the owner mad and then "no telling how long its gonna take." At least 4 weeks after the expected start date the men finally came and threw up a fence of such lousy quality that I should have taken pictures and submitted them to BBB. There are at least 5 places where the pickets come together unevenly and, so, they ripped a picket into a wedge to make the gap - almost all have now warped and fallen out. The gates (3 were "made") are simply places where the owner installed hinges on the stringers and then cut the stringers with circular saw at the widths of the proposed gate. He then installed diagonal bracing by taking cedar pickets and firing about 20 nails into each end to attach to the stringers. Almost every nail used to install the pickets went deep into the pickets with the points protruding through the other side. A horrible, horrible job. I called several times after discovering these problems and was never visited by the owner - he finally quit answering my calls.

Chris replaced a fence in between two houses for our neighbors. He came recommended by one. Later I found out that the other neighbor was contemplating suing him. We hired him, not knowing how dissatisfied the other neighbor was. At the initial meeting, Chris presented himself as a 'good ole boy'. He appeared to know what he was talking about. Chris asked for half the money up front for materials. We were idiots and gave it to him. This was our first experience with this (and a HUGE lesson). He promised to be back within two weeks and would then finish the job within days. We didn't see him again for WEEKS. I called and called and he made big promises. He eventually came and took our fence down, and left it down for several weeks. We have two large dogs and live in the city, so this was another huge problem. At the end, we tried to get our money back, we said he could keep whatever he paid for materials, but we wanted the rest back...he threatened to call is lawyer and said he was going to sue us. He eventually came and installed a decent wooden fence and a shoddy metal gate.

The project was done but only after 2 1/2 months for a fence....plus - I had to walk the fence three times because they missed nails on boards...
