When I finally got them to come out to look at it, I gave them the Manufacture installation instructions to show that it was unacceptable, was told that up to 5/16 gap is acceptable to them, that the spacing should not matter even though it was not done per manufactures instructions and looks poorly done (board ends not spaced out but falls with 6and quot; of each other).
Up to 5/8and quot; gap on hall walls and had to fix myself to not have to put in very larger shoe molding.
He did tell me that they could drill holes and try to re-glue the noise spots. I had someone else take care of the noise areas without drilling thru the floor.
Needless to say I feel cheated. I would not recommend them to anyone. Cheap price does not make up for poor installation.
The sales staff was extremely helpful and helped as much or as little as you preferred. After we narrowed down our selections, they quickly sent out someone to measure our rooms so a quote could be drawn up. The tile and installation prices were very reasonable. Once we ordered the tile, it took about 2.5 weeks to arrive at the warehouse, and then the installation was scheduled the following week.
The installation contractor team was extremely fast and efficient. They installed the backsplash and 750 sq. ft. of 18and quot; tiles in only 1.5 days. The supervisor checked everything and asked all of the right questions before they got started. The floor was installed perfectly, as far as I can tell. The backsplash looks great too, but I did notice that a couple of the tiles are askew.
Sales staff in the showroom were unfailingly courteous in helping us to select our porcelain tile, grout type and color, and laminate. The installation crews worked quietly and efficiently, discussing patiently any questions that I had, and cleaning up after themselves. (I grade them and quot;Aand quot; for Professionalism.)
The installation crew arrived on time each day they came to work at our house (I grade them and quot;Aand quot; for punctuality).
All company staff listened to my numerous questions and comments and responded appropriately (I grade them and quot;Aand quot; for responsiveness). This masks my disappointment in not receiving the written warranties (for materials and installation) that were promised but not yet provided. (I'll have to call again.)
The actual final price turned out to be very similar to the bid we had received from another company, but rejected (I grade them and quot;B = Goodand quot; for price.)
Why I grade them and quot;B = Goodand quot; rather than and quot;A = Excellentand quot; for Quality:
A. Porcelain tile: The grout lines are picture-perfect straight and nicely finished off. The overall effect is very pleasing. However, I was surprised by the height variations from one porcelain tile to the next. Upon asking the sales rep, I was told that differences in height should not exceed the thickness of a dime. I have measured the maximum differences in height at each of the 68 places where four tiles adjoin in the kitchen and dinette: 29 height differences are acceptable (thickness of one dime or less), 36 height differences are a little too much (thickness of greater than one dime but no more than two dimes), and 3 height differences are distinctly too much (more than two dimes but less than three). In my view, the two-dimension flexible-plastic cross-shaped spacers they used were good for spacing the tiles, but not so good for ensuring that tile-corners would end up at the same height.
B. Laminate floor: As completed, the laminate floor is flat (even), beautiful, well trimmed at the edges, and we are very happy with it. I would have graded the installation crew and quot;Aand quot; for Quality except that it was apparently not standard company policy to check the concrete floor for even-ness (flatness to provide even support of the laminate), prior to laminate installations, and indeed our first installation crew did not check for even-ness. (We did not know enough to insist that it be checked.) Unfortunately, there was enough unevenness to give a very and quot;squishyand quot; feel in some places after the floor was first installed. The company agreed to remove the floor and reinstall it at no further cost, but asked that we pay for the materials and labor needed to get the concrete subfloor even. We agreed. ($1,400 of the $9,000 total cost was for evening-up the concrete subfloor, mainly by pouring fast-drying WebCrete and then doing some sanding to grind down a few high spots.) Since then I have been told that the company has changed its policy to require checks for subfloor even-ness prior to all laminate installations.
