Description of Work: Mark replaced our main unit due to an electrical surge failure with the compressor. It was an older unit so we replaced the compressor and coil to move from Freon to R401a.

Mark is the consummate professional and always goes above and beyond what he needs to do to make sure the job is done right. Mark is not going to do a job, if it cannot be done correctly. Mark is also very trustworthy. I've opened my house remotely for him to get in and do work when we couldn't be at home. There are very few people who I would trust enough to do that!

+ -1 moreCharged $3400+ for "coils". Left, and it didn't work. Charged $900+ for new compressor on a 3 year old Trane outside condensor unit that was to be waranted for 5 years. Despite invoice from installation that said "Waranted for five years" Mark's Maintenance refused to take responsibility. They had the nerve to suggest that we had had another workman who had damaged the unit---but, in fact, only Mark's Maintenance had ever worked on it, and they had originally installed it! After he Mark left from that $900 visit, the system worked minimally for 12 hours. When I told him this bordered on "fraud" he refused to complete repairs. So, we had to spend another $2300 with a REPUTABLE company---Climate Control of Baton Rouge. They practically laughed at what Mark's Maintenance had charged, and the final irony is that after $4300+ it still didn't work and Mark's Maintenance would not correct the problem.

The parts took about 3 days to get here, but he called me on Friday to let me know the part was in and he would be here at 8am Monday to install it, which he was right on time. I had an ice maker installed by a friend, but it never worked. Mark was able to get it to work within a matter of minutes at no extra cost. He was prompt, courteous, on time; I highly recommend him.
Description of Work: He repaired my refrigerator caused by a problem in the freezer. He replaced a unit in the freezer that was freezing over and preventing the cold air from getting through the rest of the unit.

+ 3 moreMark did an excellent job. He sent me pictures during the process as well as showing me everything that needed to be corrected. I know that Mark knows what he is doing and is extremely competent.
Description of Work: The air conditioner was not cooling. Mark determined that the compressor was the problem. After looking at the cost to replace just the compressor versus getting an entire new outside unit, I decided to get the outside unit. I was given a quote for a Trane. When Mark came to install the new unit, he noticed the readings weren't right--he went into the attic and tested the evaporator--trash kept getting clogged in the coils. He did drastic measures to clear out the trash, but it couldn't stay cleaned out. So, it was determined that a new evaporator would need to be installed as well as new duct work, new plenum etc. He showed me how the previous installer had the drain line going into the drain where it would have to travel up hill - which is why it was always getting clogged. Mark moved the old attic fan in the attic as well as raising the entire unit so it would drain properly. There were so many things that were done improperly by Martin Johnson Heating and Air, that it was very distressing. It's nice to have someone that takes pride in their work and wants to do the best job possible. Mark also replaced all of the copper lines to the unit since there was a possibility of trash in the old lines.

+ -1 moreI fixed the problem in less than a minute. It was an repair option available to anyone willing to do the research. Overall I would recommend MMS simply because they were willing to evaluate the problem, and didn't charge me for it.
Description of Work: MMS was not interested in servicing our home. He could tell it would cost a lot. However, that was a blessing because it prompted me find the solution for only $17, not a $1000 or more in parts and labor.

He even went the extra step to make sure the line coming out of the wall would not be crimped and cause a problem later down the line. He also gave us some helpful advise on a quick fix to an airflow problem we have been having. Very friendly and polite. I would highly recommend his services and am recording his information in my address book for future reference.

Mr. Babin was on time, is EXTREMELY knowledgeable and had our heat back on within the hour. He also gave us tips that we can do/look for to help keep our system running well. Mark is not out to make a fast buck/scam anyone. This is who I will continue to call and refer. Thanks Mark Babin!!!

+ -1 moreAfter a quick look, he determined it was something a plumber might be more suited to doing. I called because he was listed as a handyman and plumbing was in his expertise - that's not really accurate... he only does AC stuff. Mark seemed very nice and I had no problems. I would definitely hire him again if I needed AC work - just don't expect him to do other stuff.

+ -1 moreI left a message on his answer machine on Friday, November 1, 2013 around 12:30 PM. It is now Wednesday, November 6, 2013 and he has not returned my call. I had the dryer repaired on Monday, November 4th. I'm glad I did not have to wait for Mark to return my call. I'm sure he could have repaired the dryer but it is certainly unprofessional not to return a business call. I will not recommend him to anyone I know.
