The following letter I wrote to the contractor after the job was done sums up my experience. I did not want to post this, but since I based my assumptions on the stellar reviews here on Angie's List, I felt it was only fair that I report my experience so that other people can draw their own conclusions. Some things that were a problem for me may not be a problem for other people, so keep that in mind. The end product is satisfactory, but I had higher expectations of service based on reviews I read here. Perhaps my experience is the only one that ended up this way. I feel that Reggie is on the upper scale of contractors, but not all that different in the grand scheme of things. I scored "A" on price and quality because the quality of the materials and the work itself is good. I gave the price an "A," but I did not shop around for price because the positive reviews here convinced me that the service would be five-star service and that mattered more to me than saving a couple hundred bucks. The price seemed fair to me though. I gave a "C" rating on responsiveness, punctuality and professionalism for reasons set forth in the letter below. Unfortunately, the C rating remains for "overall experience" as well because I didn't feel the A's on price and quality compensated for the C ratings on the other three components. In submitting this review, I hope to make people aware of potential issues because in spite of a five-star rating posted by 9 people before me, Reggie still has some of the typical contractor faults you might want to be aware of. Other than causing inconvenience and annoyance, Reggie did not do anything that I would caution others against, so no concerns there. I know many people have been satisfied with his work AND his service, and it is my sincere hope that he continues to have many satisfied customers in the future. To elaborate on the job a little, it was a replacement of an existing containment and security fence that needed to be turned around quickly. The quick turnaround time was understood by Reggie before the job was started. I was not in a hurry to have the job done, but he understood that after it started, I would be eager to have it finished ASAP. It did rain one day, but the job was delayed for far longer than it should have been to compensate for that. I assume that Reggie had family obligations and maybe he was scheduled to work at his plant job during that time. I am not privy to the reasons he did not show up other than being told that "some things came up." While I have no real interest in his personal business, letting me know when he expected to finish the already-delayed job would have been greatly appreciated and would have gone a LONG way to improve my final impression of his service ethic. I wrote this letter to Reggie after I received an e-mail from him asking that I let him know if we were dissatisfied with the fence or with his service. For whatever reason, I think most contractors don't recognize that the time to set themselves apart is when it's time to uphold THEIR end of the bargain..... not when it's time to collect the check. Dear Reggie: Since I know you sincerely want to ensure customer satisfaction, I will tell you that we are satisfied with the fence, but not with the service. Although our situation was soured due to your lack of response when it mattered most to me, I am willing to help you endeavor to improve that with your future clients. Contrary to what you may think, the dissatisfaction is not because the job was not completed on time. It began when you didn't show up when you told me you would, gave me no warning or explanation that you would not be showing up, and did not give me the benefit of a return call when I called to ask about it. Having to wait five days to hear back from you was, in my opinion, unacceptable. I felt your lack of response indicated a lack of respect toward me personally and a lack of concern for finishing the job on time. While the job lingering on longer than expected was indeed frustrating both as an inconvenience and a safety concern, I am not an irrational person, and I would have been understanding had you contacted me and told me what was going on. However, it was not until I contacted you five days later by e-mail (since you did not return my calls) that you finally advised me that some things had come up. My feeling on the matter is this: You made a commitment to do this job, and if that commitment was going to be altered or delayed, you also had a commitment to keep me abreast of your intentions. If your family and other "real job" obligations interfere with your fencing service such that you are unable let your customers know what is going on (or at least answer them when they call you), then I can't help but feel that my trust was misguided when I thought working with you would be different than what I have come to expect from contractors. Your actions indicated to me that you felt no explanation was owed, and if that is the way you conduct business, I would like to suggest that in the future you try to be up-front with your customers about that. Some people may not mind if you complete the work at your own pace with little involvement from them. However, my expectations were made clear before this was started, and I did not appreciate the flippant manner in which the job was carried out. That being said, I thank you for your eagerness to make this right after the fact. I think you are a nice guy, and I wish you nothing but the best. Unfortunately, even though the fence is satisfactory to us, I cannot confidently recommend you to others as someone who stands out from the rest. I called the bank, and they said the check for the final payment should be there today. Take care~

Great experience! Reggie was punctual, professional, and friendly. The job was done quickly and looks great! I would highly recommend King's Fence to friends and family.

We moved into a fixer-upper and knew we would need to install a fence to make the yard feel more like a safe place for our children to play and for a dog to roam when we get one. We also wanted privacy around a small concrete patio area so we could sit and entertain without being stared at by people walking by on the sidewalk. We didn't know anyone in Baton Rouge, so we joined Angie's list and looked at the ratings for fence people and found Reggie on the list. When I called him, I was still in Tallahassee and hadn't moved yet. He took the time, without me there, to walk through and measure the yard and discuss possibilities for the fence over the phone. I was impressed by his willingness and ability to work with me and suggest ideas for placement and height. His bid seemed very reasonable, though I have to mention, we didn't get any other bids. He started the job about a week after we settled on the price and worked hard with his small crew until the job was complete and looked great and we were satisfied. He consulted with us as he worked and made every effort to include us in any small or large decision he had to make to do the job in a way that would satisfy us. I would highly recommend him for any fencing project. Reggie King is very easy to talk to and work with and his workmanship is impeccable.

It was excellent. The service was outstanding all the way around. They were pretty flexible with dates.

Our project went very well. Mr. King is very professional and easy to communicate with. There were delays because of weather and holiday, but we were not in dire need (no pets) so we were not unhappy with the time it took for the project (several weeks). The fence looks great.

Called for an estimate. Company did not call back for over two weeks. Actually scheduled an appointment to come out and then never showed up nor did he call to say that he was not going to be able to make the appointment or to reschedule. ($6500)
