Description of Work: Terry and American Plumbing did multiple jobs for me. Repiped some bathroom fixtures. Installed a water heater and a drinking fountain. This was in a commercial retail store that was completely remodeled. They did great work.

The serviceman was prompt, polite, and explained what he was doing and why. He gave me a couple options concerning cost to fix leak. I was well pleased.

I had a bent outside water spigot coming out of the brick on the side of my house. The guy from American Plumbing came and said that to fix it he had to go on the inside of my house under the kitchen sink and go through the wall to fix it. This meant temporarily removing the garbage disposal and a lot of labor. The total cost would be $500. I could not believe it! This was an incredibly high bid so I did not have them do the service. With a bid that ridiculous I did not want to even give him the $35.00 service call fee, but I did. I called two other plumbers and explained my situation on the phone. They were Rick's Plum, bing and Mock Plumbing. Both of these two (who have A ratings on Angie's list) were great. They both said they could do the job for much less by fixing it on the outside. I called Rick first and would have had him do the work, but he was on a job out of town for a week and I needed the job done now. So then I called Mock and they did it for only $208.00 which included a 10% discount for Angie's List customers. (a discount that American does NOT offer). Mock's team were very professional, unlike the American team. If you are reading this review on American and thinking of using them for plumbing work, go to Rick's or Mock Plumbing instead!

[Member name removed] told our plumber that he was putting his home on the market. The repair required the plumber accessing the water line in the wall. The plumber wanted to avoid breaking the brick to access the water line because, he felt that would delay putting the house on the market. He felt the best option to access the water line in the wall was from under the kitchen sink. Yes, this was a more costly repair. The plumber did not want to break a hole in [member name removed]'s brick wall for everybody to see while putting his home on the market. [member name removed] declined and never called our office to speak to me directly for a second opinion. If he would have called, I would have been more than happy to give him that 2nd opinion. I would have definitely been able to resolve this issue. I am disappointed in my plumber and the way he handled the situation. He should have given [member name removed] the much cheaper option of accessing the water line in the wall by breaking out the brick. I am glad [member name removed] got his issue resolved and wish him good luck with selling his home. By the way, we have 10% discount coupon for Angie's list subscribers. Terry Smith

as I stated above all went according to plan and I was satisfied with the work performed and condition of property when they completed work.
Description of Work: Contractor replaced existing MoDad sewage discharge field system piping with 6" Hard piping from discharge of MoDad system to the collection box that serviced the subdivisions properties. Approximately 75 feet of piping was required. The last run of piping required drilling under existing driveway. It also required drilling into collection box to install piping for hook up. Excavation and tie-ins were all a success and property was filled in to my satisfaction.

Description of Work: They came to my house and Charged me $33.00 to give me an Estimate. The work that needed to be done was quoted at $800.00. They must think i am an Idiot. Part of the $800 was to change out two Drains in my bathroom sink which i was told would cost $200. I had all the parts needed. I think charging for a estimate is crazy and these people try to take advantgage of people. Then I called someone else who had done Plumber work for me in the past and he charged me a total of $330 to do everything and he had to go to the store for parts 2 times.

Response from American Plumbing
The member was told in advance that our service fee was $33.00 and that we do not give free estimates. He agreed to the service charge and we went to his home expecting to perform his plumbing repairs at time of our service call. After our plumber gave him the cost he scheduled for us to return. He later canceled. While most of our customers are awesome, we do have some that are just unrealistic about the cost of services. As hard as we may try, you cannot please everybody. Our prices are always competitive with other legitimate plumbing contractors. We are less expensive than some and more expensive than others. We cannot compete with people that are unlicensed and uninsured. If price is all you are worried about you may want to look elsewhere. However, if you are more concerned about quality of work and quality of people at your home, we are the company for you. All Angie's List customers receive a 10% discount.

The initial customer contact and cost estimating process was excellent -- especially when compared to other folks I encountered. The plumber technically understood my problem and was able to communicate effective ways to solve my problem. My main criticism - the workers arrived late (9:00am) - took long lunches (1.5-hr) - and left early (4:00-pm) However, when actually at work - the work was steady and sometimes intense. The excellent customer relations and communications continued through he entire job. I view the job cost was fair. The add ons for excuvation under cabinets were a little pricey.
Description of Work: I had a leaking 2" drain line from my kitchen sink into the kitchen floor area. The plumber used a camera and made an initial determination of the leak location. About a 3-ft by 3-ft by 18" deep exploratory hole was jack hammered in my kitchen slab. It was afterwards determined I had 21-ft of rotten drain. Additional trench work was jackhammered to remove the rotten pipe. Two locations under kitchen cabinets was excuvated. The old pipe was removed - new pipe installed. The trench was refilled with dirt and concrete poured even with existing slab. The job was cleaned and trash concrete removed.

Will call someone else.
Description of Work: Called this company to get an estimate for some bathroom plumbing. Was asked if I was going to get one estimate and whether they were to come out to perform the work. Told the person I needed an estimate first. Never heard from them again. Are there really any good reliable plumbers left in this world?

They were great and I was very pleased with them. I was very impressed that they came out as soon as they could. They were very forgiving about letting the invoice go past 30 days and willing to wait for the insurance check. They were professional and knowledgeable. I would recommend them.

I had no hot water to my washing machine. My mother became ill and it became apparent that I needed hot water to wash her towels and bed linen. I had used American Plumbing in the past and they had always done satisfactory work. The day they were supposed to come to install the water heater was the day my mother died, so we had to postpone the project. So, the project began two weeks late. After putting the heater in place, the plumber discovered that the gas line was not big enough. Troy, the plumber, came up with a plan that was rejected by the gas company. They ended up having to dig a trench around the front of my house to run a new gas line. Troy then went of vacation. At least I did still have use of my washer. When Troy returned, they finally completed the hot water heater project as well as the hot water dispenser and the shower head. They did a great job on the work performed. The workers were very hard working in rather uncomfortable conditions, and were always courteous. The only complaint I had was that several days would go by when no work was done and my utility room was a wreck. However, I have used this company in the past and in the case of emergencies, they are very quick to respond. What they were doing on this project could in no way be considered an emergency.
Description of Work: American Plumbing installed a tankless hot water heater in my utility room, a hot water dispenser in the kitchen, and a shower head in the bathroom.
