I first used Residential Experts the first summer after I bought my first home. He has always been prompts and he is great at explaining the issues and the possible remedies. I have used his services for 3 years and will continue to do so.
Description of Work: I've used Daniel for the last 3 years for all of my A/C and Heater work. He is always prompt, and very fair on the price.

He recommended a plumber who came then and there to repair the problem. I chose this person from Angie's List. I have a home warranty it would have costed me cheaper if I had called them so I may not use him in the future.

Daniel is extremely knowledgeable about all things HVAC!!! He is prompt, professional, and very friendly. He performed a thorough inspection of our AC system, made some repairs, and filled AC unit with about 4 lbs of freon. I highly recommend him for anything related to your AC or Heating systems. Whether it's getting a brand new unit, repairs to ducts, or repairs to anything, he will do high quality work at a fair price. He won't try to "sell" you anything you don't need. He's not pushy at all. I felt very comfortable with the whole experience. Thank you very much!

Residential Experts are the best. The office picked up when I called about our upstairs AC not working and scheduled a visit. Daniel came when scheduled (and called ahead to confirm), diagnosed the problem, and offered me three alternatives for addressing it. He didn't put any pressure on us to pick one of three, just the facts and left it to us to decide. We elected to replace the coils. He worked with me to schedule a convenient day - came on time, installed the unit, and cleaned up when he left (he's really careful not to track mud in or insulation down). The upstairs is cool again.

It was very smooth as always. Found the leak, blew out the pipe, put down new plywood and built a new pan. 1-2-3 and all is well except of course for the sagging ceiling. I will find someone on Angie's list to take care of that. What a good feeling to have someplace to find good workers. Residential Experts is on our list now to take care of a/c and heating. We will look now for a painter to repair ceiling.

I am grateful that my ac unit is fixed, but I don't believe it is necessary to charge $168 for splicing four wires together, which is all that was done. As I explained when I requested service, my dog had chewed through the four small wires of my unit. There was no need for a diagnostic charge, etc. and I think $168 is very excessive and not competitive. I will say the gentleman that came out was very knowledgable and professional, but I don't think the price is competitive. I would give them the opportunity to bid something else, but will never call them out without getting a price. Of course, most companies will tell you the price depends on what they find, which is understandable when the rates are reasonably competitive.

[member name removed]: I am sorry that you were unsatisfied. Although I do not agree on the pricing, as we do a lot of market research and find we are consistently 20% cheaper than our competitors. I have seen several invoices like this from other companies in town, and not even the big guys, in the $200-$220 range. Although the term diagnostic is used, it is so much more than that. It helps pay the person answering the phone, the computers, insurances, licenses gas, and I could name 100 other things. A fly by night company can come out and fix it for $100, but they won't be in business in a year or two because they aren't making a profit. I did splice the 4 wires together, but also taped them up to the line set after I added insulation around the entire line set so as to prevent this from happening again. I then turned the unit on and made sure they weren't any other shorts, noises, etc in the system. I know it doesn't seem like we did anything but splice wires together, but we were actually there for 1 hour and 15 minutes looking at everything plus our drive time we spent 2 hours on your call. Quick math puts that at $80 per hour (not including your credit card fee) and that is extremely reasonable. Most companies are in the $175 per hour range and the big boy franchises charge $350-$400 per hour. I would like to ask about the other grades though. You advised we were professional, on time, knowledgeable, courteous, and yet you gave us grades other than an A. What could I have done better to make those grades "A's"? I appreciate your honest feedback and review. It is what makes Angie's List so great for homeowners and contractors alike. Please, if there is anything I can do contact me at the office. I can be reached at 225-218-6850. Daniel Bandy, Owner

Daniel was able to fit us in on the day I called to report that our front heating unit had stopped running. He quickly diagnosed and fixed our unit. He also inspected and tuned up the unit as it is old. He showed me the diagnostic results for all parts on the heater and explained that although most were on the low end of the range, they were still operating efficiently. Daniel is ALWAYS on time, professional and honest.

[member name removed]: Thank you for the great review, as always. My only comment is this is not our normal price for a heating tune up of $79, but the price you bought from Angie's List and included their fees, etc. I don't want others thinking that we don't believe in the prices we set. I usually tell my customers when they see these deals it is a great reminder that it needs done, but call us directly and you won't pay the inflated prices. In the same token, others charge a $29 tune up, but it is a lot less than what we do and is usually just an inspection. I'm sure I will see you in the spring for your a/c tune up as usual, Thanks again for being a loyal customer!! Daniel Bandy

They scheduled the service during the same day and worked with my schedule. He arrived promptly. He serviced both systems and explained in detail what had been wrong with the furnace that had failed to turn on (rust in the line). He fixed the problem quickly. He noticed another potential issue with the drain line and sealed it. He checked and replaced batteries in our thermostats. He went out of his way to answer some questions I had about the gas hook-ups in our fireplace. He is always efficient and explains everything in detail. He takes time to answer any concerns I might have.

[accepted sp response]: Thank you for the great review. Thank you so much for the A review, I really do give my 100% on every call and be thorough, honest with integrity, and truly care. I do want to point out the expected cost of jobs so you and everyone else knows what to expect when calling a service provider. Although this specific repair is typical $300-$500 depending on which specific company you call in town, and I was at $212 with my diagnostic. The average cost of an a/c or furnace repair is about $680 nationwide with minor repairs being less and control boards and such being more. As a side note, my average repair is $312.48. Keep in mind that you are paying $100 give or take to have someone drive to your house, I am at $89. Things like coils and compressor, and of course furnace and air conditioners, are thousands with coils being on the lowest end. I think a lot of people still have the mindset of a repair bill being $100 (although technically my repair was $125) and a replacement being $3000. Those days are far behind us unless you are using an unlicensed, uninsured, unskilled guy doing it on the side who isn't trying to run a profitable business. I do keep my prices low and am almost always 20% cheaper than the competition. [removed member name], I wasn't picking on you, but I get a few reviews here and there where the bill is $100, $200 and people think that's high when everyone else is charge double or triple that amount. I just thought this would be a good place to note to you and all the other Angie's List members what to expect when it comes to pricing. Again, thank you for the wonderful review. I know most customers don't want to see me too soon, so hopefully that's the case and I won't see you until your spring a/c cleaning and tune up. Happy Holidays everyone! Daniel

I recommend you DO NOT HIRE THIS "expert" for any HVAC needs. We scheduled a service - to which Daniel arrived 1 hr late - he did keep me in the loop on his delay. I then explained the issue with our cooling/heating - namely that the fan shuts off randomly while AC unit outside keeps running (therefore not distributing the air throughout the house). He DID NOT check the air distribution system for this problem. Instead, he ran a diagnostic test ($89 for 15 min labor and travel time) and determined that the outside AC unit was dirty (and subsequently cleaned for $75 with water hose) and too much freon was previously added (which he removed for $250). None of these measures solved the problem and air continued to randomly shut off. Subsequent attempts to contact him to solve the problem were ignored. I did use the Angie's list coupon and member discount to get a break on the charges. He tried to sell me a new system for $11k (no thanks!) and let me know that if I got one the $325 spent would count towards it. Issue was a malfunctioning motherboard within the furnace that regulates the heating/cooling distribution throughout the house. This was established by a real HVAC expert within 15 min.
Description of Work: Provider "cleaned" outdoor AC unit and removed previously added Freon - neither of which was the problem for unit not working properly

I am sorry you do not feel like you received great service. As a one man company, that really hurts me. I try, as hard as I can, to give people an estimate on when I will arrive (usually a 2-3 hour window), but it is almost impossible to predict what you will run into and how long each call will take and am sorry I was running late. Several things come to mind about your repair, but the thing that hurts me the most is that you say I did not return phone calls to come back out. I just don't do that. My fiancé answers the phone and she did as noted in my system and if not it forwards to my cell phone and I always return messages usually within 20-30 minutes or quicker. I don't have any missed appointments from you or voicemails on my system from June (Yes, I went back and looked). As noted on my invoice you called in because you had someone else out before me who tried to sell you a system, after not fixing the system correctly, and you wanted us to provide a quote because your system was older and you were probably going to replace it, but yes I could look at the system. I always want to look at it! Mayeb I can fix it and save you thousands! While there, yes I gave you an approximate price on a high efficiency complete heating and cooling system withe surge protectors, rust inhibitors, weatherlegs, etc. Yes they can be $11,000, but many companies in town are selling that same system for $14,000! I don't try to sell people heating or cooling systems unless they specifically ask for a quote or it is legitimately bad which is just a few times per year. I just don't believe in selling people things they don't need. If, however, you ask for a quote, yes people replace systems before they are completely dead. The point is that I am not forcing it, never have, never will. As far as your system. I find it odd that you didn't mention that within 10 minutes of me fixing it at that time that it cooled down from 79 to 78, but more importantly the humidity level in your house went down 9% from 68% to 59%. Intermittent issues can be hard to diagnose unless you are there when it happens. Especially with circuit boards, most of the time they work, but sometimes they don't. I advised you on the service call that this can happen and that I don't want to just replace it and hope that it was the problem. What if the motor was overheating after a few hours? You just spent money on a board that wasn't the problem. I was there for 1.5 hours and the entire time, the blower was working fine. So at that point the only thing I can do is test the rest of the system out. My findings on the rest of the system. Your outdoor unit appeared to not have been cleaned in years, this has to be done in order to accurately check freon levels. I clean mine every month in the summer! ($75 is a very standard price to clean an outdoor coil and I do use a foaming cleaner on it, the water hose is to rinse the cleaner off). After cleaning it off your system was running 88/415. These pressure are extremely high and the reason for my cleaning. After the cleaning you were running a 1 degree superheat (as you should recall superheat is basically the ability of your system to transfer heat from inside to outside and it should have been at 22 degrees that day). Your subcool reading was off the charts high too. I know this is greek to you, but any technician would agree these numbers are way off and such a low superheat with a high subcool means the system is overcharged. In order to get it working at that moment, I had to recover the freon from the system. This brought your numbers back down to a normal level. Had the previous tech from the other company cleaned it before adding freon, it likely would not have been overcharged. Though, most techs don't use digital gauges like they should so they can do the best job possible the most accurate way. In the end, I really wish you had just contacted me about coming back out to make see if the circuit board was the problem. All in all, I am just sad that you were disappointed and that you are unhappy. I'm more sad that I you didn't give me the opportunity to fix your problem and make you a believer in who I am and what I stand for. I am a very reasonable guy and would have done anything in the world to fix this problem. Unfortunately, sometimes problems don't always present themselves when a tech is there. I am a one man company, I pride myself in being 100% honest, the most reliable, the guy that you want your friends and neighbors to call because he will do the best job that can. Oprah Winfrey said "Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody's going to know whether you did it or not." I stick by my ethics, my integrity, and know what my character is made of. I could have sold you a circuit board that may or may not have fixed the problem (based on the symptoms that day), but to me that would be even worse. Maybe you will find it in your heart to understand that I was trying to be honest, that I did actually fix the problem that presented itself that day, and maybe you will call me again. If not, I am sorry, but I understand.

following to his routine annual servicing of my heating system, he identified the subject capacitor as a potential problem. So I scheduled him back to replace the capacitor; but before he was scheduled to do that work, the capacitor went bad. I called him and he came out the next day with the capacitor and successfully identified and solved the problem. I was impressed enough to subscribe to his annual servicing contract which includes 2 service visits per year, one for heating and one for cooling. His charge for this contract is $250/yr. The cost for this work included both a 10% AL discount and his standard 15% senior citizen discount.

We had just purchased the house a week ago and had an home inspection but I really wanted someone to make sure everything was safe as when we did our final walk-through the previous homeowner had left it as though it was a foreclosure property. To say the least it was horrible. We are happy that we had Daniel come out because we have 3 H VAC units and he found one to have a minor leak in the supply hose. He stated the units were 16 years old approx. He also stated the other unit had supply line that was flexible instead of rigid which he also told us that it was not in code and should be stainless steel rigid in order to be at code. He was extremely concerned that the home had no carbon monoxide detectors and he stated under no circumstances to turn on the heat before putting 2 detectors in. We found Daniel to be knowledgeable, professional, courteous, and he was very reasonable in price. We have put him on our list as our H VAC company moving forward. Thank you Daniel!
