Responded to request for quote very quickly. Over eager to get the job--now we know why. Doubt he has many customer--no repeat ones for sure. Price was significantly less than other quotes but as the saying goes - 'You get what you pay for'. In this case, we don't feel we even got that. Dry wall mud was smeared over areas that needed minor patching, NEVER sanded and then painted over. Roller marks on the ceiling and areas that were not painted in particular over the kitchen cabinets. Deep brush marks left in the trim. Many areas where paint was thin on the walls and old paint showing through. He sent two hired hands in to do the work and never showed his face on the job until it was supposedly 'Done'. He whined and complained that we 'weren't being fair' when the poor quality was specifically pointed out. The job performed was not worth the price he charged! Would NOT recommend and certainly would not hire again.

The first time I spoke with Bear Paint Brush was about a month before. He arrived at my home within 15 minutes of me justcalling to schedule an estimate. He was very professional and knowledgeable and he had an immediate understanding of what we were looking for. He provided an estimate and the moment he left, I knew he was the one for the job. Once I had my paint colors chosen, I called him up and he came right over. Of course by this time we had decided to throw another job in on the detail. Once I handed him my paint choices my work was done. He and his crew arrived early every day, within 10 minutes on the first day they had completed a walk through, drop cloths were down and paint was being opened. When he was finished he said if you find anything or if you scuff the walls while you are moving something, call me and we will come right out and that he did at no extra charge! We could not be happier with the job Bear Paint Brush did! No other crew will paint in my home! Thank You Bear Paint for the amazing job! Words cannot express how happy we are with the quality of work we received.

I had several companies bid this job. Bear Paint Brush came in right with the rest but saved me a few dollars over the other guys. One contractor that came to quote the job actually left without quoting because he couldn't do the high walls and ceiling. I felt confident after meeting and talking with Mr. Bear (Rudy Bear, owner) that he would be more than able to take care of the job. Quoted price was $520 The Quoted Job: Paint Living room/kitchen walls and ceiling. The area I was having painted had 3 high walls that I couldn't paint myself, and I also wanted some minor repairs done on the ceiling peak and the ceiling painted. This was a LARGE area/great room that encompasses painting nearly 1000 sq. ft. of ceiling. I asked for prep of walls to be done (repair nail holes, nail pops, uneven seams/cracks, etc) and Bear included all of that prep/repair in the cost. Also included in the job was fixing some cracks and previous ceiling repairs at the ceiling peak (caulk, plaster and re-texture). Note: Job included prep/paint of walls and ceilings, minor repairs and is labor only (I supplied paint). We did not have any trim (door frames, baseboards, etc) painted as we plan on doing that ourselves. The Completed Job: Bear did exactly what he said and more. He and his paint crew (Scottie and Jesse) not only painted the 3 high walls and ceiling as originally quoted (along with a great job on the prep and ceiling repair) but went above and beyond. They also painted a back wall that I had planned to paint, painted the wall surrounds on the lower parts of the stair case, painted part of the hall wall leading to the stair case, repaired a caulking seam on the bar in the kitchen, and painted under the kitchen cabinets. None of those extras were included in the quote, but were done at no extra charge. The results were amazing. The room was truly transformed – I love how new paint really changes a space. A quality job makes it truly awesome. Timing Of Work: We had a specific schedule that we requested, and Bear required 2 days to complete the job. He was able to schedule us on our preferred days (we scheduled a few weeks ahead of time). He and his crew arrived promptly (actually early) on the first day of the job. They didn't mess around and started working immediately on prep. I expected one day of prep and one of painting but they had the walls prepped, cut in and first coat of paint on that same day. The crew arrived on the 2nd day right when they said they would as well. Very punctual. Flexibility: These guys are great! Very Flexible. After the first coat of paint, I realized that the large space and the color choice I made wasn't the best. I could live with it, but I really felt after the first coat was on I needed a little darker color. I consulted Scottie and Jesse when they arrived on day 2 about the color change. They indicated it wouldn't be a problem and double checked with Bear and all agreed. I made a quick trip to the paint store to get the darker color picked up and all was good! Quality of Work: The end result was excellent. I would say that at a minimum I'm 'picky' about how a room looks after painting. I'll even go back and use and artists brush to stipple roller skips or minor blemishes after my final coat when I'm painting myself. Bear and his crew finished on day 2 and we were so happy (ugly green color was now gone and replaced with the color we loved). As the final coat dried we found a few minor spots that needed touching up (we chose a flat paint for this room due to the high light and minor wall imperfections). The spots that needed touching up honestly were partially my fault for changing to a slightly darker color for the final coat. However, Mr. Bear said from the start, if something wasn't right to let him know it he would make it right. A quick call and he had the crew back on site just about an hour later. They noted the spots I was concerned about, took care of the work and were out in under an hour leaving my walls perfect! By the way - they painted behind the refrigerator and the stove - not just trimmed in a few inches, but moved the fridge and stove and painted (both coats) to the baseboard. Cleanliness/Cleanup: We were painting a space that was virtually empty and the carpet is going to be replaced. So I really cannot attest to their ability to cover a room full of furniture. The crew still took care to cover every floor anyway. Items were covered in the kitchen so counters and cabinets didn't get paint on them, banisters covered and overall they did a great job of keeping paint from getting onto the tile and wood floors that were most important. As usually is the case a few splatters had to be wiped up after the job was finished, but that is to be expected. I would recommend that they consider using a vacuum sander attachment when sanding the drywall mud to keep the dust down. When finished the guys did a good job cleaning up and taking out any trash/scrap. Bonuses: I like to look at a job like this and consider the bonuses (or big negatives) when it's finished. The additional work performed to fix a few trim items not included in the quoted job - nice little bonus. Painting 3 wall surfaces not included in the quote, very nice bonus. Letting me borrow a ladder for a day to do a little high painting in an area I didn't hire them to paint - HUGE bonus (saved me the hassle or renting or trying to transport an extension ladder). Being able to buy paint off Bear's commercial account (see below) - Bonus. The biggest bonus? I just can't find a negative or bad thing about the whole job. Bonus, Bonus, Bonus! Paint Used: (Note: This is not a review of Sherwin Williams Paint - but relevant to the services provided) Bear recommended Sherwin Williams paints. He prefers the SherScrub line of paints. (a commercial/professional paint used by contractors). At first I was hesitant as many online forums (where some painters hang out) talked about this paint as if it was a low quality paint. Some however said it was great paint (better than the Promar 200 that costs twice as much). We used both flat (on the rooms that Bear painted) as well as the SherScrub Eg-Shel (similar sheen to Satin) and were pleased with the look and coverage of the paint in both sheens - that however is another review so I'll leave it at that. NOTE: The $520 was labor only - paint was extra but Bear allowed us to purchase off his commercial account at his prices at the local Sherwin Williams Store (and all the people there are GREAT!). We paid about $17/gal for our Eg-Shel paint per gallon and $16/gal for the flat. Final Overall Summary: I had initially considered this job to be one that would cost me a lot money - much more in labor that what it ended up costing. Bear's quote came in at a good price and he stuck to it. We paid what we were quoted. The cost of the paint was very agreeable by using Bear's commercial account - that was a huge bonus. The end result was what we wanted and all work was performed professionally and done to our satisfaction. I would recommend Bear Paint Brush for any interior paint work you are looking to have done. Great guy, great crew and great results.
