Shades of Color

Well I was actually an employee of his until I noticed that he was not doing what he charged customers for and was basically stealing their money and his other workers are mostly very very SHADY AND love to lie on others if they feel threatened by someone like me who is very good at this trade and takes pride in their work, he blew smoke up my arss when hired and just totally lied and made up reasons, "that were totally false accusations and assumptions", just so he didn't have to honor his own words, overall shady business and a very shady PERSON ABOVE ALL, WOULD never mean NEVER WOULD recommend him to walk my dog 🐕, that's all 💯 % truth, nothing even exaggerated a little bit, I literally watched him lie to customers and one customer wanted something extra done and I told her I would have to approve it through John, and ge told me go tell her we would be back Monday morning to do it and never went back, so the customer got mad at me and lied to him and said I smoked a cigarette every 30 mins and sit on a bucket which was all lies, I got the job done ahead of time so how is it possible to finish early especially when you done whole job by yourself and how would it be possible if you smoked like she said I did, totally disappointed with his business and his personal thoughts and choices, oh well people please be careful who you hire to do your work please

John is a pleasure to work with and his crew is very friendly and responsive. Their work was good and they were fast!

Didn't hire them

We hired John Poynter of Shades of Color last spring/summer to do some interior painting based on Angie List reviews. We liked John and thought his prices were reasonable, or at least comparable. The problem we had is getting him to get started. He would say he was coming, but it took quite some time to get going. In the meantime, we had hired another crew to get started. Once his crew showed up, they stayed until the job was completed and did a very nice job (a little sloppy, but not that bad). John was never on site to do any of the work. His crew was good and we liked them a lot, even though they took a smoke break almost every hour. Based on this experience, we asked John to give us a quote for staining 3 decks, emphasizing our need to get the work done as early in the spring as possible (emphasis on March) in preparation for an early May event. He promised we would be top priority the minute the weather cooperated and that he should have no problem finishing up in March. This was very important to us as we had so much else to accomplish. We started communicating with him on March 4th. He did come over pretty promptly to advise us on how much stain to purchase, which we did immediately. Well, that stain has been sitting there waiting for him ever since. After NUMEROUS communications, he finally sent someone over to power wash the decks. That person did a horrible job, but we have not even addressed that with John because he hasn't come back! After more communications and promises to get started, it is clear he has no intention of doing the work! He said he would arrive early last Saturday, but once again, no show and no communication! We are having to do the work ourselves because it is impossible to find anyone on this short notice. We absolutely cannot recommend John or his company. He is a huge disappointment and totally unreliable..

John is very friendly and gave us a quote for our interior painting. He did not have availability to begin the job for at least 3 weeks,but once his crew got started, they worked all day every day to get the job done. They finished the job in a reasonable amount of time, were very careful about covering the areas to protect them and cleaned up after themselves. They were very prompt to return a couple of times for some touch ups. We were very satisfied and would hire them again.

On Mar 16, 2015; I called Shades of Color and left a message about need for drywall repair. Within 15 minutes, John called back. He visited the same day and gave us an estimate. Work started on Mar 18. There were 5 short visits in all due to need to allow drywall mud to dry. Workers acted professionally, took their time(didn't rush the job), and cleaned up after themselves Very satisfied with work and price.

Price was fair. Showed up next day and started to work and did not stop until done. Great doing business with John.

Everything went fine. He showed up on time and did a good job on the ceiling. I was very pleased with the results.

John is very professional, punctual, a great painter. We are very pleased with his work and will definitely use him in the future.

He called us back right away and came out immediately for an estimate. He gave us a reasonable time frame of his availability and honored all of his commitments. We are very happy with the work, and he was a nice guy also!

We got a free estimate. They were very available and flexible with our schedule and the weather forecast. They were very courteous and hard working. They addressed all of our questions and concerns. They also assured us if there are any problems in the future, they will return and resolve them.
