Took 6 months from the time of quote to completion. Took 2 months just to get him to show up to sign a contract. Price looked great so we held out. Mistake. Cost of the project was twice his estimate, but that was on us because he invoices for his labor and owner pays for materials. He grossly underestimated the materials needed and we were left eating the difference. He put us off a dozen times for a variety of excuses that ranged from legitimate to absurd. In the end he did an OK job staining our fence, and built a really nice gate. But very difficult to deal with, all text messages, not a lot in writing, very loose on his calculations, not a pleasant experience.

I should have written this review several years ago. I have just let the issues go until now when I am trying to fix them. Rob Rogers did not know how to install Trex materials. He nailed the facing boards instead of using screws and they have warped away from the deck leaving gaps. He did not know how to use the Trex supports for under the railing spans and so they have not provided the support needed and some of the railings are sagging. DO NOT USE HIM IF YOU ARE USING TREX MATERIALS. And when I think of the amount of money I spent, I am furious!
Description of Work: Reconstructed deck using Trex materials for the railing system but treated lumber for the flooring. Reconstructed deck using Trex materials for the railing system and facing boards and treated lumber for the flooring

This has been a total nightmare from start to finish, the handyman project from hell. The contractor was sick numerous times, had a family emergency on several occasions, and tended to go to Nolin Lake when the weather was nice. When he was supposed to show up at 9:00, he showed up at 10:45, set up his tools, went to Lowe's/Home Depot for what he needed, came back, went to lunch, came back and worked from 1:30 to 4:30 if he did not need to go back home, give someone else a bid, meet the cable guy, or go to the dentist. A job that should have lasted about three weeks has lasted three months and is not completed yet. He told me that he would cover the patio door with plastic before he began working so dust wouldn't get in the house. He did not. He said that he would show me damage on a window before he began working on it. He did not. He told me that he would blow all of the dust off a window before he began his work, he did not. The quality of his work is sub-par. The contract said customer satisfaction for one year. I am unhappy with his work and he said that he would "give me one day to take care of my issues." He also kept changing the price that he wanted to charge, at one time he was $105 an hour and at another he was $30. He is not logical or focused and you can barely read his contracts with all of the misspellings. Also, he told me that he was insured before he began working. He caused property damage on his last day, he walked through a patio screen. He told me that it would cost $150 to repair. I said "OK" and he said that he could not afford to repair it. I said that he should call his insurance company. He told me that he was not insured. He wanted to repair the screen with old screen from his basement. I told him "no" at first and then decided to let him do this if he also repaired the adjoining screen door so that they matched. He left with my "issues" to be resolved and the screen doors to be replaced. I then made several phone calls and was told to not let him back on my property and to call the BBB since he is not insured. When he showed up the next time, two weeks later, we talked briefly. When he told me that customers expect too much and that he would only give me one more day, I asked him to leave my property and to never come back. It was ugly. Several agencies have been contacted. Now I will let someone else finish the job. I have spent June, July, August 2008 waiting for him to do this job. Unfortunately, I did this job in three parts and paid him after every part with the understanding that we would address all issues at the end of the job. I have learned my lesson on that. He should have just shown up on time, done his work, dressed professionally, taken his shoes off at the door, not thrown his cigarette butts and trash into the landscaping, and done the things that he said that he would do. Also, he curses on the phone and is condescending and belligerent. It has been a mess.
Description of Work: Contractor was to repair windows and doors, prime, paint, caulk, tuckpoint, and add a small section of guttering with downspouts and drains. Also caulk and paint 8 gables, clean gutters, and install three light fixtures.

I had 3 separate contracts/phases of work that customer asked me to do repair work on. After each job I was paid and the job was completed in a workmanlike quality to the customer's satisfaction. A time frame was given for each phase and the work was completed during that time frame. During the 3rd phase, customer kept asking when I could start on an additional phase of work she wanted done. I informed her we would discuss that when this job was completed, but that my schedule was full and that I would not be available to schedule additional work for her for several months. Therefore, if customer did not like my work why would she pay me and ask that I come back for an additional phase of work. What this customer has complained of makes no sense and I feel completely baffled by it. First, we had written contracts of the repair work and these were not altered. Second, I wear khaki pants and a work logo polo shirt, never throw trash or cigarette butts in a customer's yard and have never spoken to a customer in a belligerent or cursing manner as she alleges. The only problem I encountered was on my last day of the work I was doing for the customer when I agreed, out of good customer satisfaction, to address some issues of concern that the customer had. I did not notice she had closed the screen door by where I was working and when I entered the house I accidentally ran thru the screen, tearing it. I immediately informed the customer that I would return to repair the screen and to finish up the touch up work I was doing for her. She "went off" on me and said I would have to turn this into my insurance company and get her a new door. I advised her I would never turn in a small fix like this into the insurance company and as the deductible was much higher that the repair that needed to be made to this type of door (which was old and rusted). As a handyman, I have repaired numerous screen doors with this exact type of problem and I only charge $45 for parts and labor. That was the only comment made about insurance. I returned to do the repair and touchup work, which I estimated would take em approximately 3-5 hrs and customer threw me off her property. I couldn't understand why and had my attorney send her a letter to allow me to finish this work. My attorney or myself never heard a response from her until this complaint. Robert Rogers-Owner

The gutter corners leak and the corners do not match the main gutter. He said the gutter corners did not come in the color "putty." Apparently, he tried to match the color, but it did not work. He installed them in May of 2007, and by July of 2008 the corners of the gutters are still leaking. Last week he called and said he would not be returning. Many times he had an appointment and I would wait and he wouldn't show. He started out as a good guy, but as soon as there were issues in his work, he changed to a different person. Rob Rogers was promptly notified of leaking gutter corners and chose not to resolve the issue; nor did he ever suggest a manufacturer's defect. Rob was subcontracted out by Mr. Lyall. Contractor or subcontractor, he should have addressed the problem with us so that the final product was in working order. Mr. Lyall has returned and is making necessary repairs to the corners. AVOID THIS GUY!
Description of Work: Rob installed new 6" gutters on my house.

Gutter corners were attached properly. However 14 months later the customer claims the seams in the corners are leaking. This is a manufacturer defect in corners and not due to installation. Corner pieces are not seamed by installer and come all in one piece. At the time of installation, the customer approved and accepted slight variation in manufacturer's color of corners and gutters. All work was done on time; one day was missed and the customer was notified due to family emergency. Further, Robert Rogers is not contractor - Mike Lyall is. Please see contract as Robert Rogers worked for contractor, not customer. This report should be addressed by the contractor at his address on the contract. The personal attack by the customer against Robert Rogers was unfounded and unjustified. - Robert Rogers
