We had purchased our house about three months at the time we engaged Meyer. Meyer had installed the existing irrigation system about 25 years ago, and the former owners had used Meyer for regular maintenance. I called in May to schedule the service. This coincided with a very busy period for the company, and the soonest available service date was approximately 3 weeks out. I explained that we needed repairs, and that we also wanted to have additional heads and zones added to the system to irrigate our planting beds (the existing system covered only the lawn). Their office scheduler told me that the service tech likely would not be able to do the new installation work (and I didn't expect this), but that he could get the necessary information to price the work for installation later. The service tech arrived on time and was able to make the necessary repairs. The price charged was reasonable. However, he was unable to provide much information or advice about the additional work we wanted to do, and told us that an estimator would have to come out and gather the information needed to determine the scope of work and get us a proposal. Later on the day of the service visit, I called Meyer's office and requested an appointment with the estimator. The office person told me that the estimator was out, but that someone would be calling me back. Two days went by, I heard nothing and called Meyer's office again. I was told again that their estimator was very busy and that someone would contact me. About a week later, still nothing, called back again. To this day (it's now mid-July) I have not heard another word. While the repair and service work was satisfactory, I will not be doing any more business with this company due to the lack of professionalism and basic courtesy they exhibited. I understand that my project was small and that this occurred in the busiest time of the season, and I was prepared for a relatively long turnaround time to get any work scheduled. However, the inaccurate information I received when making the initial appointment, and the outright refusal of anyone even to return repeated phone calls - trying to give them new business, no less - is inexcusable.
Description of Work: Maintenance and minor repair of an existing sprinkler system - completed. Addition to existing system - not completed (see below)

I had a very decent experience with Meyer. Paul Meyer, partner, came personally to the house and walked me around discussing where the system should be installed and asking me what I needed. During the first year they had to come a few times to make some adjustments as I noticed that certain areas were not being hit. I am able to program the controller easily to set the on off times as well as the duration. I generally turn on the system myself each spring but have them come in the fall to use a compressor to get all the water out of the lines ($100). At one point I make a change in my landscaping and needed an additional sprinkler. They came and installed that for $162. I rated them "B" for quality not because the sprinklers at times are slow to pop out of the ground or need a little help. This in very infrequent. I love having this system - it means I can go on vacation and not ask people to water for me.
Description of Work: Had watering system installed in both front and back yard. I have a large yard area with an odd shape. They needed to set up 8 different watering areas - each can be controlled for a specific amount of time. Toro system - also had a rain meter installed to not water when rain level was high.

Meyer Sprinkler installed our system over 5 years ago. It has never worked properly. Every year, they have to come out and fix it at least once. This usually entails new parts, etc. Once they had to replace the entire control system. Another time they had to replace the entire backflow system after it leaked water for an entire day while I was at work. So much water gushed out that our basement flooded and the City Water personnel came out. Further, it always takes at least 3 weeks to get an appointment, during which I have to water the yard every day by hand. They make no attempt to meet my schedule and their attitude seems to be they are doing me a favor to show up at all. Their personnel are unprofessional with little to no understanding of garden/yards, etc and water needs. On several occasions, they have had to come back to fix something they did incorrectly. When they first installed the system, they spent time asking me about each section of the garden and watering needs. However, it seems they ignored all of that when they designed and installed the system. They didn't get my approval as to zones, etc. so I now have a system that when it works, doesn't even meet my needs. The fact that I didn't agree to the zone design was my fault, but I believe professionals would have asked first. I don't know how much of the problem is the Toro system, but regardless, I would never use Meyer again. I selected them because they were the lowest cost by a significant amount. In this case, I got what I paid for. A bad idea since an irrigation system is so permanent.
Description of Work: Meyer Sprinkler Systems designed, installed and serviced our irrigation system, which is a Toro. We have a large yard, with several garden areas.

They installed the irrigation system 10 years ago and they were very reasonable. It is a family run company and they are just great as far as coming out and their prices are good. They come out twice a year to check the system and put it on and again to winterize it. I spend $69 each time they come out. They had been recommended to us by our landscape architect. They have been in the business for a long time.
Description of Work: I use Meyer Lawn for lawn irrigation services. The last time I used them was in April this year.

Sylvester Meyer maintains verbal estimate not for services actually performed. My wife & I were BOTH PRESENT, there was never any agreement that we would do work as he indicates. In fact I did some work Meyer was supposed to do. I also advised him of problems with work performed, but that doesn't seem to bother him or that I had to correct the problems myself. His comments "number of men on job not for me to decide" & 2 men being more "cost efficient"; evidences his total disregard for the situation. How he underestimated by more than 100% & will not accept responsibility for any error is beyond me. Unfortunately, that's the situation & sadly his memory is poor. Or more likely he's intentionally distorting the facts. As for his computer records not showing missed appointments, I'm not surprised. Everything about this experience was bad. WE wasted 4 hours waiting on crew that never showed or called & WE had to reschedule what turned out to be a disaster.
Description of Work: UNPREPARED, SHODDY WORK, CHARGED OVER TWICE AMOUNT GIVEN IN ESTIMATE, WOULD NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY ERROR IN ESTIMATE, SENT 2 PEOPLE TO DO 1 JOB, & CHARGED FOR BOTH. DID NOT SHOW FOR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT, & NO ONE CALLED TO NOTIFY.

Response from MEYER LAWN SPRINKLER SYSTEMS
A verbal estimate was given to the member's wife with the understanding that the member would do some of the work himself before we came to repair the system. When his wife called to schedule the work, she said that the member did not complete his part of the work and that we should do it all. Therefore , the estimate was not for the work we performed. The rate we charged the member was the same rate we charge all of our customers for our service. The sprinkler system was working properly when we left and I have not heard otherwise form the member. There were no "unprepared" employees or "shoddy work". The number of men on the job was not for him to decide. It is more cost efficient to have two men on the job than one man.
