Exterior Painting, General Remodeling

About us

urmindseye, llc, (pronounced "your mind's eye") is a "one stop" shop for your general home improvement, home maintenance, and even handyman/honey do lists. We pride ourselves in doing A+ rated work. Incorporating in 2007, urmindseye is a 5 star neighbor rated Service Magic approved contractor and we have been servicing the Louisville area since the mid 1980's. We do mostly residential and some light commercial remodeling. You may have heard of some of our satisfied customers: Louisville Athletic Club, Bazo's Fresh Mexican Grill, Boombozz Pizza, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles among others. At urmindseye our motto is " We See What You See". The general idea or theme, if you will, is that we recognize whatever it is that is in "your minds' eye", and we can help you to realize that vision to create "your space, your way". We are a very details driven company. We know what quality work is and how to deliver. Our staff brings years of reliable ideas, opinion, and know-how to each project with an optimism and enthusiasm for what it is that we do: listen to our customers and give them what they want. Now THAT is what service is all about. We do work from mid to upper level in price. Quality work doesn't come cheap. We aren't a "just patch it up buddy" type of company. If that's what you need, it won't benefit you to call us. We aren't outrageously priced either. We believe we're fair and honest with regard to pricing our work. We also explain in detail where our price comes from during our interviewing process with each and every client. We give free estimates at our initial evaluation of a project. This is strictly a "ballpark" parameter. Detailed written estimates typically start at $75 and depending on size and scope, can be as high as $600 or more, but most fall within the $100-$150 range. Some people want to know why we charge for estimates when so many contractors do not. We like to tell them that we don't have hidden fees or pop up after starting the job claiming additional costs and demands. We do our best to estimate properly, including inspecting your particular property and applications to sum your price. There are the occasional circumstances where a customer will have a structural problem, for instance, where discoveries are made after a project has begun, and we handle those like any other part of the job, sit with the customer, present to them their options, and proceed with their wishes according to what CAN be done to remedy such situation. We carry a one million dollar umbrella insurance policy that covers each property we service, and have never had a claim made against it or us. If you're looking for competent, attentive professionals who understand and "get it" then look no further. We do repeat business with lots of our customers, accept credit/debit cards, check or bank drafts, and PayPal forms of payment.

They are horrible. They signed a contract for $16,000, and then wanted to double the amount. They caulked boards that were cracked and painted over them instead of replacing them. They didn't show up half the time, and quit half way through.
Description of Work: I hired them to paint the exterior of my house.

Mr. Damon Beckley came out and was very friendly while going over the details of the job. He provided an estimate on time and was very diligent in campaigning to get the job. We agreed on the estimate, sat down and went over the contract again and I signed it for 16K. Almost immediately, they began asking for early payment draws because of a variety of reasons. They(only him and his brother, not the crew I was lead to believe he had) showed up for work less than half the time and were constantly making excuses as to why. They barely scraped the house at all. When I asked about it, I was dismissed. (It's four months later and the paint is already peeling and flaking off.) Halfway through the job, Mr. Beckley informs me that he will need an additional 12K to finish the job and won't honor his contract. At this point, I had already paid him half the labor and all of the supply cost. This would have made Mr. Beckley 11K to 12K higher than any estimate we received for the job. So they walked off the job and kept 90% of the supplies I had purchased and that I needed to finish the other two sides of the house. Now I had to hire other contractors to finish and pay for the additional costs of supplies that I have purchased twice. Every painter that looked at it afterwards has said that it was the worst paint job they have seen and that the work he did do will need to be redone. Just be warned, he comes off as so friendly and decent, but he is not!

Response from urmindseye, LLC
[member name removed] is selling a huge falsehood here. First of all, she wanted to micro-manage the project, paying for the materials herself, (which she did: $53/gallon Sherwin Williams exterior paint. I hadn't specified in the contract what paint, so she took it upon herself to buy the most expensive paint available out of our total price for the job). The home she is speaking of is a 3 story Victorian located in old Louisville. [member name removed] also would only pay us PER WALL. So, once we completed the work on a wall, she would pay us one fourth of the contract, (after her material costs were deducted). So, she figured the materials were going to approx run her fyK for the whole job and decided to give us $2500 per completed wall for labor. Again, 3 story Victorian, lots of windows, 3 color scheme. An extreme job by any company's standard. What she has has neglected to state is that she hired us because of our cheap price, in the dead of one of the coldest winters on record and is claiming that we strung her along. You can't paint outside unless it is at least 43 degrees farenheit, a luxury that we didn't have for 75-80% of the time (late December toearly March). [member name removed] also didn't mention that her neighborhood association had sued her and fought her for years to repair the extremely dilapidated property, her sole reason for doing the job at all. Her own tennants volunteered information that would make most people shake their heads in dismay. So we finished wall one, she paid us for that. Then we finished wall two and she paid us for that. After snows had cleared and we were able to make better assessments of walls 3 and 4, we determined that those walls wouldn't even be able to be painted at all. They would need 100% of all wood siding to be completely replaced. When we couldn't do that for our remaining 5K worth of labor (probably a 35K job) we told her we could not move forward with walls 3 and 4. So in total [member name removed] paid us 5K in labor, and spent approx 2-3K in materials and equipment rental. So her statement of paying us 10K is an outright lie. She paid us 5K, the rest of her $ is on her gargantuan walls! We also don't appreciate he'd accusation of stealing her materials. We took nothing from this lady but two $2500 checks after busting oh r freezings butts off for her all winter. Her claim is utterly ridiculous,
