Never in my life have I experienced a more arrogant, less responsive, and rude subcontractor than Tom Welsh from Sunshine Landscaping. For starters, when he first came to my house to give me an estimate, he told me he would email me the estimate. The email did not arrive until 10 days later, after I called and emailed him requesting it, and I honestly don't think it would have ever gotten to me had I not contacted him back. What's worse, I had repeatedly asked him for a range of estimates for different potential services, but he only gave me one estimate.... a short sentence in email with 1 number (no breakdown of materials and labor or anything). But to this point that was fine, we were to move forward with the job as I didn't have the time or patience to look around for other service providers. And I should say that his price quote seemed competitive. Throughout the process, he continued to tell me how little chance of success I would have planting grass seed on my own, and I should pay him another $1200 to powerseed the area. The problem is that I have used a different lawn service provider for 8 years to apply fertilizer/chemicals on my lawn and he seemed very confident that I could successfully plant the seed myself and save a lot of money. I certainly trusted him much more than Tom Welsh, but Tom wouldn't let go of the insistence on powerseeding. I get it, he wanted another $1200, but his tactics were very transparent. You don't need to powerseed grass on newly graded topsoil in Louisville, KY, you can just broadcast it and it will grow just fine! The last straw came when he insisted on pushing back the scheduled date of the job due to the risk of heavy rain/flooding that could shift the topsoil. When he called me i didn't have internet access to check the weather, so I took his word for it. and I fully recognize that heavy rains/flooding would shift the soil. However, when I checked the weather myself I saw that the heavy rains he was calling for were far from a sure thing. So I called him back to discuss it. Tom Welsh completely lost his temper with me on the phone, threatening to cancel my job altogether and several other unpleasentries that I will not repeat here. At the time I bit my lip and apologized to him for ever contemplating to question his infinite wisdom, and at the time the job was still scheduled to be done at a later date. But after taking more time to think about it, I decided that I would never give this guy a dime of my money. And I would make sure that all of the good folks at Angie's List would know just how rude and arrogant Tom Welsh is.
Description of Work: Bring in 10 cubic feet of topsoil in an area that was cleared of brush and ivy, then grade out the soil.

Tom Welch is the person I dealt with and I am very pleased with the work. I am going use him next month to move a white crepe myrtle in the backyard that was planted in the wrong spot. My backyard really looks wonderful. They were Mexican and they have been working for him for a number of years and they were really difficult to understand. They had me go around and point to areas that needed to be redone and they took care of it. Their price was fair. I didn't compare them to anybody else.
Description of Work: I used Sunshine Landscaping to power seed my whole backyard. The whole backyard was killed and they came and seeded it in both directions. They came back a month later and checked the spots that didn't come up and reseeded them.
