I had Chris Allen of Stumps & Stones, replace my crumbling creek rock retaining wall. It wasn't a big project, about 4ft high by 16ft long. They showed up on schedule, working in very cold temperatures and completed it in 3 or 4 days, including cleaning up left over debris. I had them install a post light too. Thanks for a job well done!
Description of Work: Replace a retaining wall.

I am very pleased with the work delivered by Chris Allen and his team. Chris was very professional. He was on time and always showed up when he said he would. He listened and also provided good suggestions. He delivered professional estimates with very competitive prices. He worked with me to break up the project into divisible sub-projects in a way that I could afford it over a period of time. We agreed to the work and timeframes with a signed contract. Chris and his team are hard workers and completed the projects in a very timely fashion. The results were great and I constantly receive compliments from friends and family for the work that was done. I definitely would hire Chris and the Stumps and Stones team again.
Description of Work: Chris Allen and his team was asked to do the following: 1) Cut down and remove stumps for 9 evergreens that were about 10-15 feet tall 2) Remove overgrown large bushes, trim up existing landscaping, and clean up beds that surrounded the entire house. 3) Trim up existing hardwood trees, large evergreen spruce trees and removed dead branches 4) Plant new trees and plants (six 6-foot Hoopsii spruce trees, two 7-8 foot red bud trees, and a dog wood tree. 5) Plant two new crepe myrtles, four golden mops, and several hostas. 6) Spread about 17 cubic feet of dark hardwood mulch. 6) Create a new patio with pavers and build a fire pit with existing rocks that match the house.

Chris and his crew were professional, clean, and relentless at getting the job done the right way. These guys put up a beautiful and solidly constructed retaining wall, drainage system, and basically leveled out a huge slant adjacent to our driveway thereby giving us a back yard! Awesome. They cleaned everything up and even washed the driveway off when they were done. He was extraordinarily and refreshingly honest and worked with us on providing exactly what we needed, NOT what he needed. We were quoted for almost double of what he charged by another company. Now he's gonna sod the backyard and put in a fence around it so the kids dont get into trouble doing ninja jumps off his magnificent wall. Price of that to be determined but it'll be fair im sure. I would hire Chris again in a heartbeat.
Description of Work: Basically our house was slowly sliding down the hill it was built upon as was evidenced that our brand new driveway was cracking apart. We already had sunk significant amounts of dollars in anchors and lifting but nobody ever once said erosion was the cause. Chris of Stumps and Stones came out and pointed out the erosion and that the current retaining wall system (bunch of incredibly old railroad ties) was failing. They were obviously leaning forward but he revealed to me in detail what was happening. So basically we needed a new retaining wall and erosion management drainage system.

We can not start our project until the spring so we haven't decided on a contractor yet.
Description of Work: Chris Allen from Stumps and Stones responded very quickly to my request for an estimate for damage that a painter had done to my yard and provided solutions for drainage problems that we unknowingly inherited from the previous owner. He was extremely patient and provided several different cost estimates for modifications and tried to help find solutions to lower our cost.

How did it go? About 2 weeks later we had some serious rain. The water was moved away from the house and into the creek with no problem. The job was top quality. He even came on Father's Day in the middle of the construction because it was raining (1st rain before completion) to check to see how the water was moving. He found the driveway was moving the water ineffectively and we installed another drain and fed it into the 200 foot drain that he constructed. - I would use him for other landscape work like stone walls, tree cutting, etc..
Description of Work: My house is on the side of a hill with a very bad erosion problem. The landscaper installed a set of railroad tie stairs, gravel and a 200 foot french drain to move the water away from the house. 1. He had the utilities marked. It turns out the utilities were closer to the top than we thought. 2. Hand dug around the utilities 3. Trenched out 200 feet past our fence 4. Laid plastic, then tube (with holes in it), then stone, then recovered with dirt 5. Re-seeded grass 6. Brought in 17,000 pounds of 2 inch river rock for around the railroad ties and steps.
