When I first called Schardein, I was told that someone would come to my house the next day to check the boiler. The next day came and went with no call. I called the following day and was told that they were very busy and they apologized that no one had contacted me yet. They dispatched a technician that morning to check our system. The technician called me at 10:41am and told me that he was driving from the airport to my home which is about a 10 minute drive. The technician arrived at my home approximately 45 minutes later at 11:30am. Upon inspecting the boiler, he found that he needed to replace the thermocouple so he left to go get the part. After returning, he installed the part, tested the system, and answered all my questions. He then left at 1:30pm. One of my questions was regarding how the heat pump and boiler thermostats were wired together. The information he gave me ended up being incorrect which isn't a big deal but I would have been happier if he had taken the time to inspect our system further to give me a more accurate answer. I received an itemized invoice totaling $396.92 a week later. I saw that I had been charged for three hours of labor at $80/hr even though the technician was only at my home for two hours (11:30-1:30). I also noticed a $50 "truck charge" and the cost of the part that was replaced. I called Schardein to confirm that the charges were correct and was informed that I was billed from the time that the technician was dispatched and that the $50 truck charge was to compensate for the cost of fuel. I feel that $130 for travel is too much to charge for this kind of call. I understand that they want to bill for travel time but I feel that this amount was unfair for the work that was done. I will not be calling Schardein again in the future.
