They opened a cleanout in basement and used a powered snake to clear a blockage in the sewer line. I was afraid there would be a big mess from opening the cleanout. Thank you for using a bucket to drain the sewer line before using the snake. Very little clean-up needed after completion.

Their services are outstanding. They came and did what they needed to do. They went above and beyond with the work.

They have great customer service, they are very prompt and they are just excellent. They are very professional and knowledgeable in their line of work. I will definitely use them in the future.

The appointment for the estimate went very well, however, their quote was just a few dollars higher than another quote I had received.

It was an excellent service. I have a house with no basement. It is a fairly new house but we found a leak down underneath the floor. Mr. Ratterman had to jack hammer the floor up to fix the leak. So it was a big job. He replaced the flooring. Part of the wall had to be wall taken out. He couldn't do that but he recommended a carpenter and they took care of that. He was excellent. I would absolutely use him again in the future.

I had a number of tasks, but the biggest was to install an outdoor hot and cold water faucet, that could be used year-round. Their work was professional, neat, and punctual, and the cost was reasonable. I have used them for the past 4-5 years after they were recommended by a contractor (they usually know!). I have been very happy with their work, which they stand behind without question. I know I can take their advice and not worry about getting ripped off. Their prices are fair (especially for the East End area) and, on one occasion, when a job was giving them trouble and the 2 workers spent half the day here because of unexpected difficulties, they cut their labor charge by half before I even got the bill because they felt it was "too much." Excellent work quality.

We had a clogged drain that was between the house and the sewer on a Saturday night. We couldn't use any water or else water would start coming out of the toilet. Ratterman (Chad) answered on the first call, came out within two hours (there were two scheduled jobs in front of us) and he showed up when he said he would. He fixed the problem in about 45 minutes and gave some insight where we may have additional problems... great experience, would definitely use Ratterman Plumbing again.

Overall, they were good. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

We have a 50 year old home with lots of old pipes which clog up frequently. We use Ratterman's every time we need plumbing work or drains unclogged. They are punctual and professional, and have never tried to sell me something I don't need. Their price is not cheap, but they do good work. Our most previous experience was to unclog two drains, both of which they ran the power snake through. As one plumber told us, with plumbing this old you should plan to do "maintenance" every 6 months -- meaning to have the drains snaked. I would recommend (and have) Ratterman's to anyone.

They came on two different days and they were very nice and knowledgeable. Communication with office was pleasant and appts. were set up quickly. The work was completed quickly, but also done well. They were also on-time both days. I will definitely use them again if the occasion arises.

I have reviewed Rattermans before and they have consistently given me excellent service with reasonable prices over the years. I would not even consider using another plumber! The most recent occasion occurred when my sump pump failed during a rainy spell causing my basement to flood. Rattermans was out here within two hours of my call and had the sump pump replaced within three hours. They charged me $350 total. The sump pump itself was about $275 (something that was verified by other sources), so they only charged me $75 for labor–obviously not taking advantage of my somewhat desperate situation. I cannot recommend this business highly enough!

They were set to come out sometime the following Tuesday (31 May), but they never showed up. I'll call someone else off of the list provided by MSD, hopefully with better results. Disappointing, as I've had good service when pruchasing plumbing supplies from their Middletown shop.

Chad showed up on time and was very prfessional. Chad went over the job with me and the fixtures I needed to be installed. I was actually missing a part! He helped me locate a nearby plumbing company and I ran out to get the part while Chad started the work. When I returned, Chad was working away. He was neat, professional and gave out some "how to" plumbing advice. Al in all I was extremely happy with the service I received and would use Ratterman Plumbing again! I would not hestiate to recommend Ratterman Plumbing to anyone who needs a reliable, friendly, and knowledgable plumber.

Very well. Some of the work was tricky because we live in a home built in 1940. They discussed our options in-detail before performing the work and explained the work to us thoroughly each time. We also appreciated the fact that they informed us of possible complications before the point of no return. Everyone we encountered was courteous, polite, and friendly. Always prompt and they call before arriving at the house. We have renovated our home from top to bottom and have worked with all types of contractors, including other plumbers. Ratterman ranks at the top of our list of contractors to work with.

Cleared out roots on 1/31 and drain ran clear. After 4-5 days, basement drain backed up when running washing machine, so I called Ratterman back to check the line again, I scheduled for the next morning and the plumber cleared the line once again at no charge. The man performing the work the second time was the same who had done the original work and I found him to be pleasant and professional. I've used Ratterman before for other plumbing tasks and will continue to do so. I'm very pleased with the service I've received.

The sink was clogged in the bathroom, leaving standing water in the sink. We called Jos. A Ratterman plumbing and they arranged a time for the same day. They called and requested a revised, faster time and arrived promptly. They gave a quote for the work over the phone. The work was done quickly, professionally and cleanly. The price was exactly as quoted on the phone. Because this problem had happened before, the plumber offered to look at plumbing scenario overall. He recommended replacing the iron pipe in the bathroom plumbing system with PVC pipe and explained how that buildup along the walls of the iron pipe may be creating a restricted passge for flow. He provided a written quote for this service without charge.

About 10 days after the work was completed, one of the new valves they installed blew off the wall. Extensive water damage was sustained on three levels of the house. Initial response from Ratterman was good -- they sent a plumber immediately and arranged for a water remediation company to promptly provide on-site services. However, they ultimately declined to pay for any of the damages or related out-of-pocket expense, including the water remediation company. Their insurance carrier also declined to pay, contending that the problem was a faulty valve, which wasn't their client's fault. Unfortunately, I let Ratterman take custody of the valve, so there can be no independent evaluation. However, one of their own plumbers who came out to install a new valve and reconnect the sink commented that the original workmanship was "a piece of s - - -." Ratterman's insurance carrier informed me that they had turned the matter over to the valve manufacturer and that the testing leading to any settlement could take a long time. Ratterman did write off about half the original sinks installation cost; however, their estimate for the installation was about $350, and they tried to charge me about $700. Bottom line is that I was out about $9,000 in repairs and expenses stemming from the water damage -- not to mention the lost time, personal stress and aggravation. My only recourse was to file a claim with my homeowner's insurance carrier. That settlement left me about $3,000 short, so I proposed to Ratterman what I considered a reasonable compromise: Just give me $3,000 credit to be used over time as the need might arise. They did not respond to my letter, although they apparently did write off about $700 due at the time I wrote the letter for work unrelated to the sink installation debacle. Recently, when we called Ratterman for another plumbing repair (leaking gas line), we were told, "We can't afford to keep working for you for nothing." Wha-a-a-at???? I'm sorry, there seems to be some confusion here. How is it that I am supposed to end up eating several thousand dollars in out-of-pocket expense, while Ratterman walks away from any responsibility?

Two plumber team showed up about 5 hours after my call for service. Kitchen sink leak was addressed quickly. Installation of shut-off valve and outside facet fixture took a bit longer than expected (problems soldering due to water in line). When shut off valve in utility closet installed, the handle operates toward the outside wall, instead of towards me. Not a big deal, but not real user friendly. Will only use the handle 2x per year. Bottom line - good value, prompt, courteous. Results very acceptable, but not optimal.

The office person and the plumber were friendly and professional. As she said she would, the office person called me a few minutes in advance to let me know the plumber was on his way. He was on time. I described the problem and he got right down to work. I had tried to unstop the sink myself using a hand-cranked snake, but was unsuccessful. He worked for nearly an hour on unclogging my kitchen sink and replaced a part on the sink I had broken. He also pointed out a couple of tiny holes in my sink and suggested how I could fix those myself. He answered all of my questions while he worked and explained the process to me. He cleaned up after himself. He was generally a great guy.

We saw the reviews on here and decided to go with Ratterman. Not only were they able to stop by within two hours, but they completed everything fast and efficiently. They also only charged for one man's labor although two guys came by because they said it was only a one-man job. They were also very straightforward in explaining everything they were doing and why it needed to be done. We'll be calling Ratterman for all of our plumbing problems from now. We worked with Marvin and Sherman and highly recommend both guys.

Picked Ratterman due to good rating on Angie's List. Originally scheduled to come out on a friday afternoon. Their office called me to explain they were running late. I said it would be ok to move appointment to the following week. They gave me a discount for helping ease their schedule. Showed up on time. Very polite and professional. Installed a garbage disposal that I provided. Took over 90 minutes, but it was a complicated install. Then inspected a bathroom sink for a leak and examined main gas line to make sure it was properly installed. Only took a few minutes each for those jobs. The price was fair (plumbers are not cheap, and good plumbers are worth it!) Highly recommend them.

Called shop, appointment made, men arrived and completed work promptly and were polite. From time I called until work complete less than three hours. Very happy with experience.
