PODS Moving & Storage

PODS was responsive and able to place the container within a day or two of our request, BUT they did not inform us that there is a local city ordinance that requires us to obtain a permit for the container to be placed in the street. More importantly, they did not place the container correctly. It sits about two feet off the curb in violation of the city's ordinance, which requires the container to be placed right next to the curb. This is a safety issue and an inconvenience for our neighbors. We were contacted by a city inspector who let us know about the ordinance requirements, and we obtained a permit. However, PODS told us that they are simply unable to comply with the city's requirement to place the container next to the curb. After contacting PODS twice, the only resolution provided to us was to haul the container to PODS' storage facility where we would be charged additional money to store the container. We are now facing additional transportation costs to haul the POD to another location (not the PODS facility-we're not paying them extra because they can't comply with the city's laws) and the inconvenience of having to work through the process of obtaining a permit and talking with the city's inspector when we should have had these things addressed when the POD was placed. The inspector has told us that a number of other residents are facing the same issue with an incorrectly placed POD. Had we know that the POD could not be placed in a way that complies with the city's laws, we would not have chosen to work with the company. PODS claims no responsibility for not following the law and for not telling us in advance about the need for a permit, even though this is the business they are in and they surely know better.
