Mr. Hobbs came with another painter. Mr. Hobbs repaired the stress crack himself and painted it. No one can tell that there was a significant stress crack there and, before Mr. Hobbs, we had tried to repair the crack unsuccessfully. The work Mr. Hobbs did was beautiful. The second painter painted the bedroom and bathroom - the work is beautiful and has made such a difference in both rooms. The price included labor and paint. Mr. Hobbs was punctual and professional.

I bought a house which had outdated colors and had been occupied by a smoker. I took 3 estimates and The Personal Touch was the lowest estimate. I specified Porter paints and was glad that Steve Hobbs, owner, uses Porter paints. I originally selected 2 colors for the walls but changed that to 1 color for the walls throughout the house. I originally thought that painting all the surfaces in the house would take care of any smoke haze and smell. However, after talking with Porter paints I realized that the best approach would be to paint all surfaces first with an oil-based block. I called Mr. Hobbs and talked with him about the issue since his estimate did not include the stain block. He agreed that to the block was the best way to ensure that the smoke residue would not later bleed onto the newly painted walls and he talked with the Porter paint folks also. We agree to use Porter Paint Seal Grip for all surfaces prior to painting the finishing colors. Mr. Hobbs modified his estimate and the total revised estimate was still lower than the other 2 estimates I had received. Mr. Hobbs showed up on time on Monday morning with a crew of 4 other men and they immediately started spackling areas where there were holes and removing a few of the fixtures that I could not remove. I left a garage door opener with Mr. Hobbs so the crew could come and go as needed. I checked every day at different times of the day and each time saw the men diligently painting. The oil-based block had a strong odor which didn't deter the men. By Thursday, the entire house had been painted with the stain block and 2 coats of finishing paint put on the ceilings, walls, doors and trim. I went into the house on Friday and was amazed at the quality of the paint job. My sister was with me and could not believe it was the same house. She looked at the walls and trim and stated that she had never seen such clean, clear painting lines. The crew had cleaned up and I would not have known that anyone was in the house except the house now looks airy and refreshed. I haven't moved into the house yet but can't wait to get my furniture into the house - a house that looks like a new house. Mr. Hobbs and his crew will definitely get my recommendations and my future work. The Personal Touch is professional, diligent, clean, and produce a quality paint job. I can't say enough positive things about this company.

Steve arrived a little late for our estimate appointment, but he had called to let us know. The process went smoothly. They arrived early each day to begin the project. It took a total of three days for the job to be completed as the house trim had not been painted in many years and there was a lot of scraping necessary before the painting could be done. The crew was also very nice. Before the paint job the house didn't have any pizazz at all. All the trim was dark brown. Most of the houses in the neighborhood have white trim and are made of brick. We picked a terra cotta and tannish color for the painting and left the gutters and downspouts the factory brown finish These three colors picked up on the colors of the bricks in the house. So far the neighbors we've had a chance to talk to think the house looks much better. I think the colors add to the contemporary design of the home and show if its lines to better advantage. During and after the painting they were very diligent about picking up the paint that was removed from the house so the yard looked good when they left. They were also mindful of the bushes and landscaping and protected them from any paint mishaps.
Description of Work: Steve's crew power washed the trim, soffits and after removing the storm windows, the window areas of the home. They then primed and painted the above with paint colors chosen by us. They also painted both the front and back door and the security doors, mailbox and lamp post out front. They then washed the outside of the windows and both sides of the storm windows. They then reinstalled the storm windows.

It was a job well done! We were very satisfied with the work and the experience.
Description of Work: Personal Touch did a wonderful job painting my house. They offered an unbeatable price and their service was extremely professional and personable. Steve Hobbs and his crew moved all the heavy furniture and covered it with plastic to prevent any damage. There was not a spot of paint on my carpet after they were done, and since it was a multi-day project, the crew cleaned up every day before leaving. Also all members of his crew were very happy to come to work and had a great attitude. I was very impressed with quality of work done. They were meticulous! I would recommend Steve Hobbs to anyone looking for a professional and reliable painter. After the painting job was complete Steve and his assistant installed the backsplash in my kitchen. While doing this, they adjusted all the electrical outlets and switches to be flush with the newly installed backsplash. They did a fabulous job and they did it quickly. I would recommend Steve Hobbs for backsplash installations as well.

They came, ripped out the old drywall room, replaced insulation, drywall and painted the room.
Description of Work: We had our breakfast room redone. Old drywall and wall heaters were removed. New insulation and drywall was replaced and the room was repainted. They cam on time and cleaned up their mess. We did have an issue with the outlets not fitting around the new drywall. We didn't realize it until they were gone but it wasn't a big deal and certainly wouldn't keep me from using this company again.

Did not go well. They did not do a quality job and took too long because he just used one person. The bedroom light as not painted but sprayed with primer. The second one was not done so, I said I would get someone else to paint(it was taking too long). I got a man to paint it and the drywall was done so poorly, the painter said that Personal Touch needed to be contacted to smooth their work out. I called PT, Steve said he would come and never showed or called.
Description of Work: They enclosed one skylight and drywalled it, then dry walled the other . They were to paint both, they sprayed primer on one and did not paint the other at my request, since it was taking another day to paint the skylights.. I had a man to come in to paint it and he could not paint it due to the poor quality from the knotty work that was so uneven and poorly done.

The wall to be framed and drywalled was put in where a shower used to be in the bathroom, but we removed the shower for a variety of reasons. We lived with not having a wall there for several months, and basically not using the bathroom as it was a spare. But eventually we needed the space, so I called around and got an estimate from Steve / Personal Touch right away. We were having a party in three weeks so it was very important to have it done as soon as possible. The price was dead on what we wanted to pay, so I asked when he could schedule it, but he said he would have to get back to me. After a week and a half I called back to remind him to schedule it, which he did about a week later. This was cutting it very close to the start of the party, but his sub-contractor completed the work in a single day. They also listened to what I had to say about the possibility of a water leak running from the AC coils in the laundry room to the drain in the bathroom, and used treated lumber for the bottom brace of the wall and raised the drywall a quarter inch off the floor to keep it out of harms way. Overall the quality was very high, we finished the wall with just a light sanding and painted it ourselves so we got very up close and personal with the work. The only downside was having to call Personal Touch and remind them about the schedule.
Description of Work: Framed and drywalled a single wall to separate the bathroom from the laundry room. Single straight wall, about 6 foot wide, up to the 8 foot ceiling in our basement.

The work occurred while the bridge was closed, so the crew planned to arrive later to avoid traffic, which was a smart move.

When I called them, they came out the next day, I think that’s important, we had already paid them, and they didn’t have to respond like that, but they got right over here and took care of it. It wasn’t the same problem we had before, but they came over right away. I was satisfied with them, they were responsive, I could always get hold of them, and when the said they were going to come, they came. They were friendly and they did a good job. We probably ended up spending a little more than we thought we would in the first place, but they were very professional, they had a contract, and everybody knew everybody’s side of the deal. I would recommend them, they did a very good job.
Description of Work: I used Personal Touch for general remodeling. They replaced the bathroom tiles on the floor around the tub and in the shower, they put in new recessed light fixtures, new shower heads, and all new faucets. They did all this in two and a half bathrooms. They also put in new light fixtures in the kitchen and the dining room. We had a major leak upstairs, and they couldn’t do the bathroom work until they found out what was leaking from upstairs. They found a problem in the pipes, and they took care of that. About a month ago, we found that we had a leak in a small spot, I called them, and they came out the next day. It was a grout issue, and we needed to have some grout sealed.

Work done by the owner went very well and was a professional job. The work done by the other man was very unprofessional.
Description of Work: I had ceiling drywall in the kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms that needed to be repaired. My experience with Personal Touch should really be split because there were 2 men who did the repair work. The owner was very good and professional and I would hire him again. However, I would insist that he do the work and not the man who worked with him. The owner repaired a hole in the kitchen ceiling where I had removed an old light fixture and had a new one installed but in a different location on the ceiling than the original fixture. He also repaired other areas of the ceiling and part of a wall. Additionally, he recognized that the area between the walls and ceiling needed to be caulked and did that job. Lastly, he repaired a corner drywall in one of the bedrooms. His work was excellent and he did an excellent job of cleaning up after himself. The living room and bedroom ceilings were repaired by another man and I would not hire Personal Touch if he were placed on the job. He spent more time on the phone than he did on the job and the work on the ceilings was sloppy and unprofessional. The ceilings are textured and the areas that this man repaired are not textured in the same way as the pattern in the rest of the ceiling. I can tell that the ceilings in the living room and bedroom have been repaired by the sloppy man but the ceiling in the kitchen looks very good and that ceiling was done by the owner.

I was totally impressed with the quality and speed of the work. The price was very reasonable, I felt. I've called on Steve's help before, and found him professional, creative and economical. The work site was left in good order, and I am so pleased with the rescue of the building. Strongly recommend!
Description of Work: Steve Hobbs and his crew turned my falling-apart two-car garage into a way more attractive and solid structure than it was. They replaced load-bearing parts, concealed old rotten doors with panelling, put up new gutters, and painted the whole thing. The job required some clever thinking, and got that!

The job went very well; start to finish. Steve is a real pro. He's honest and he's very knowledgable about a wide array of trades and knows a lot about remodeling; take the time to talk to him about what you're goal is and he can give you a lot of useful insight. His team is reliable and very friendly; they were very courteous to us and patient as we have two girls under the age 4 who were always very curious as to what was going on. His crew did very well cleaning up which was much appreciated. Overall, these guys just really seem to enjoy what they do and it shows it their work. I highly recommend them.
Description of Work: Based on my research on Angie's List, I hired Steve to do some drywall work in my home. I was exteremely satsified with the work he and his team (Robert & Tim!) did over the course of two and a half weeks in October. He drywalled a ceiling in one room that was originally slated to be a tin ceiling, but due to costs we opted for drywall. He used crown molding (real wood, no MDF) to join to the exsiting drywalled walls and to a restored chimney. He went the extra mile and installed medallions in the ceiling corners which really made the ceiling look good and eased the pain of the corners not being so square (our house was built in 1910). This work was done with dust-free mud which was a lifesaver. Steve also tackled my biggest challenged. In our living room, we have a vaulted ceiling with four skylights; supporting the ceiling are two unfinished cross beams with queen trusses on top of them (queen trusses look like "V"s with an added support right in the middle). We had originally intended to cover the beams and trusses with stained wood but opted for drywall to save money. Steve and his team squared the beams and trusses with plywood and wrapped them with drywall. Even more impressively, they were able to finish the majority of this work with the dust free mud - a little sandiing was required. This was challenging architectural drywall work that required addressing many unpleasant angles. The trusses were joined very nicely to the ceiling and the beams were blended in to the walls very well. They also finished the interiors of the skylights with drywall, blending the edges perefctly into the vaulted ceiling. I can't emphasize enough how challenging this work was and we could not be happier with the result!

We ordered expensive imported tile, which was improperly installed, leaving no option other than total replacement. This would be very costly. We are totally disappointed and dissatisfied with the unprofessional job done by this company.
Description of Work: We wanted a bathroom totally gutted and retiled. We took several bids and decided to go with Personal Touch. We had a contract drawn up that we signed, and they came to do the work for us. The tile they installed was set into the wall uneven. They sloped the tile shower bridge in the wrong direction, which caused the water to run onto the bathroom floor, instead of back into the shower. They were also supposed to raise the shower head 6 inches (which was in the contract), but didn't, because their boss forgot to tell them. They installed the hot and cold knobs backwards. They seated the toilet incorrectly and didn't bolt it to the floor, and didn't inform us of the problem with the wood subfloor under the toilet. We called a plumber, who informed us that the floor under the toilet was rotted and should have been replaced before installation of toilet. It cost us $1000 to have the plumber come in and replace the rotted wood and reseat the toilet. They sent a painter to do the work who did an awful paint job. My husband had to resand, fill holes and paint ALL of it again. When the people who were installing the glass shower doors came, they could not install them until we had the slope corrected for proper drainage. We had to pay another $150 for a marble slab & installation to get the water to drain back in so that they could install the glass. The first time my husband tried to use the shower, it would not drain. We had the plumber come out again, and he removed various construction materials from the drain in order to unclog it, which cost an additional $182. I believe that everything was done unprofessionally. They tried to just paint right over holes that were in the wall. The whole project took nine weeks to finish, and since they were using our back patio for cutting tile, mixing construction materials, etc, we were unable to use that area because of the debris for two months. It was only a small bathroom remodeling which should have taken about two weeks..

We started the tile job tearing out the old tile in the shower stall. Even before tearout began. We always always plug any/all drains, The might become clogged. The shower drain in question remained plugged until last day, at which time we ran water to make sure the drain was clearing the water properly. When work was complete and per my instruction. Like with the electrician make sure the (Member) or (Member) is happy. Electrician had (Member) call me personally and said he was happy. Only the next day for (Member) to call and tell me it all wrong. I did the same with Tim to make this time that both (Member) & (Member) were satisfied with the work and they stated “They were” Prior to reaching the final approval, we make corrections on no less than (5) punch lists. All correction were (Member)e in a timly manner, as work progress hardware and problems that arose due to damaged materials, hot + cold water value under sink and toilet were fixed or replaced at contractor own time and expence. Time and time again damaged materials were fixed without change. It should be noted that contrary to the advice of the (Member)’s own designer. The direction of the ceramic floor tile was changed by (Member), newly installed tile was pulled up, scrapped to clean off “tile” partially cured mortar thin-set and tile was re installed direction change to (Member) satisfaction. Floor tile was installed above existing tile as per (Member)’s request. This covering of existing old tile making detection of any sub-floor or joist damage impossible to detect. Not unlike a treated lumber and moister proof membrain. After shower wall tile was installed. Faucet handles and shower hardware was re installed just as it was removed no changes were made as to the hot and cold water feeds. Removal and reinstallation of the toilet was (Member)e at least 3 times due the toilet tank being cocked slightly sideways. This tank issue was existing, but it escaped detection due to old counter top covering the off center toilet tank. Each time we made adjustments to the toilet the base had to be re-caulked and sealed. This also at no extra cost, in spite of this pre-existing problem. Having installed new bolt down screws. Extra checks were made to insure toilet base was tight to floor. At all times that work was being (Member)e on said bathroom drop cloths were place through out the hallway and bathroom were we entered and exited our work area. Tile was cut in a specific area as directed by (Member) and clean up was (Member)e each and every day to the praise of the owners (Member) + (Member). Many times as we worked late ending our work day with clean – up (Member) would say “(Member)’t bother” I will do the cleaning for you. Rarely if at all would we allow (Member) to clean our mess. A nitch was built and the size was changed at least (3) time each time having to be torn down and re built and the light size was changed and rewired (2) time at no charge. When glass shower company came they said they would be able to in stall door is what (Member) told me. It seem to me I was not the only one who could not completely make (Member) + (Member) happy. First a contractor came to install a storm door only to have to take it back at least twice because (Member) said glass had waves in it. Also Lowe’s custom made the sink top and I know they had to take back per (Member) at least once. In the end after about a month (Member) call and told me they had been out of town and that was why he just now calling and said he had work (Member)e and I ask him why he had not call me. Because any punch list he had I alway took care of, but all he could say was he wanted me to paid to have his floor put in. At which I told him because I never knew that there was any problem with the floor. Also the paint was not included in job I just prime walls and ceiling as a extra at no cost.

I went over after on Wed morning and was very satisfied with the job , I found 1 small problem that was next to the side , I called Steve and told him about it HE GAVE ME NO HESITATION ! and came over the next day as he said he would and fixed , H e also proceeded to tell me why this problem happened it was a condensation line that had leaked from the AC That problem was fixed and the people who did that job messed up Steve's work , When I told him what happened and needed him again All he said was NO PROBLEM I WILL TAKE CARE OF IT FOR YOU NO CHARGE !! Steve Hobbs painted 2 rooms in my house, my garage, the garage door, shutters, exterior trim, front door, put epoxy on my garage floor, and repaired some drywall from a home theater installation. Mr. Hobbs was prompt and his estimate was spot on. It seemed too simple, lol. He quoted me, scheduled me, showed up with his crew and completed the job. This was two and a half years ago and everything is stil in great condition. Nothing is peeling, flaking, etc. The drywall patch cannot even be seen. He even paint matched it when we didn't have the paint code to give him. I would feel very confident in hiring him again!
