I have used Payne Electric at several different rental properties this year and they have always been very professional. I started using Payne after having a bad experience with another electric company (see my review for Rudder Electric). Payne's first job for me was correcting bad job another electrician had done. They got everything straight and did it for much cheaper than I expected. They have always been on time to their appointments and surprisingly, they have always been cheaper than I expected. As of this review, I've used them about 5 times and I'm 100% happy. :)
Description of Work: I have used Payne several times and a few different locations.

They were unable to find the issue, but gave us a written quote to try to finish work. Unfortunately, it was out of our price range to hire them any further. They were polite and we appreciated that.
Description of Work: They came out to assess an electrical issue. They kept their appt and tried to find issue. They were pleasant to us.

I called them, made an appointment, the man showed up on time, and gave me a reasonable estimate. The person who came out to do the estimate was very nice and helpful. He made me feel very comfortable with him. I think if I end up doing this project I will probably use this company.

Appt set for 8:30am. Arrival 9:35am after several phone calls re need for add'l directions, then re heavy traffic. Work was done well and the man in charge was courteous re answering questions about several issues. Of course this was chargeable time. My concern was why was it necessary to have 2 people for this job. The charge for the and quot;assistantand quot; was $50.00. I decided to submit this when I saw a previous entry about the same issue. Is Payne charging the customers for their apprentice program?
Description of Work: removed existing ceiling light fixture, replacement installed added outlet in MBath checked one hall fixture with unidentified wattage bulbs checked utility room re installation of double pole switch. said no can do.

Time & Material jobs are quoted as follows: 1-Man Crew: $90 for 1st Half Hour $40 for every Half Hour (or portion) thereafter. 2-Man Crew: $120 for 1st Half Hour $ 50 for every Half Hour (or portion) thereafter. The amount of work to be done determines which crews are sent so that we can finish the job quickly and charge the customer the least amount for labor.

I addressed this in above answer. I thought they were professional, prompt and tidy. Work seemed to be excellent. I just think the helper at $50 per hour was overkill for what he provided.
Description of Work: Ceiling Fan in bedroom quit working. Two electricians arrived around 4:30PM on day of call and diagnosed problem as bad remote. Installed remote (provided by homeowner) and attempted to install new fan in another bedroom. Fan was defective (not their fault). Electrician and apprentice were in home for 1 hour and billed $120.00 for electrician and $50.00 for apprentice who removed approximatelyl 4-6 screws and carried in and out a 4ft. ladder and presented the bill. I have no objection to anything except the cost of the apprentice.

There was a mix-up in the time the crew was supposed to show for the job but fortunately I was able to leave work and meet them when they did arrive. The two techs were very courteous and professional and did a good job. The bill seemed somewhat pricey to me, but I suppose it was pretty much on a par with other such companies. Overall a good experience and I would recommend them.

These guys took my money and didn't come back to do the work. They initially took a look at my dimmer switch and told me that I would have to buy the materials myself. I figured I would also have them take a look at my 5 outside lights. They again told me that if I purchased the materials they would fix it. Well I went and purchased the materials but I couldn't get a hold of them. They also didn't have good bedside manners to speak of. They were not polite or professional in any way and I found that to be rude and inconsiderate. Overall, I feel these guys represented themselves poorly.
Description of Work: I had them come out to fix one of my dimmer switches with in my home. I then also asked if they would fix five other outside lights I was having problems with since they were here.

Overall I give Payne a 'B'. The work was largely satisfactory, and passed a city inspection. I have a background in electrical stuff, and am convinced that all pertinent safety and quality guidelines were followed. I have two minor complaints: First, two of the new outlet boxes were poorly installed, due to sloppy openings cut into the plaster walls. Having blown their ability to mount the new boxes properly to the wall itself, the installers instead used drywall screws into an adjacent stud. The result was boxes and their contained outlets or switches hanging at obviously awkward angles, with LOTS of wiggle when used. Second, I had confirmed verbally with the estimator, and corrected the version of the quote I signed and returned, that two existing outlets would be not just moved, but rewired with a ground. The installers weren't provided with this updated information, and instead two ungrounded GFI outlets were installed. This is to code, but not what I agreed to.
Description of Work: This project involved a complete update (except for overhead lights) to the wiring in the kitchen of a 50 year old house. A number of outlets (over 20) were added or moved on 3 new 20A circuits, plus dedicated circuits for 3 large appliances, and a new 240V circuit for a range. Other miscellaneous moves and changes were also made. The work comprised roughly 4 man-days over two working days, plus a quick follow-up visit.
