They not only cleaned surfaces but also sanded places and hammered nails that had popped up. The stain was a nice color.

Jerry was the gentleman that did my deck he did a wonderful job and was very professional did some additional deck work and was a wonderful Carpender ! The stain made the deck look beautiful and I would not hesitate to use them again!!

Mark was great. Very professional and his crew was excellent. Not only did they do a great job, they kept their work neat and everything was back to normal each day. He followed up multiple times after the project was completed. One of the best contractors I’ve ever used. Our house looks great!

Overall, they did a really good job of staining my deck. It had never been stained, so the owner insisted on 2 coats for good coverage. The only reason I could not give an "A" is because the contract stated they would tighten any loose screws and sand uneven surfaces- neither one which occurred. The price was good, so I would hire again and follow the work more closely.

I am rewriting my review to reflect the fact that when Mark saw my original review, he immediately called me. He came out and remedied all my concerns. I should have called him first. Everything is fixed to my satisfaction. Thanks Mark and Chris!

Beautiful job, deck looks great lasted lasted for long time.

After calling in an inspector to inspect our 20 year deck to see if we had to replace the deck or could just have it restained (yeah inspector said it was very solid just needed some minor reinforcement by adding some bolts and braces) I called Mark at Nu-Wood. Mark came out the next day and provided us with a very reasonable estimate. Came out the next month (weather wasn't cooperating with us so we had to wait for the rain to stop). Jerry his very meticulous workhorse (Mark calls him his artist at heart) came and Power washed driveway, sealed aggregate front pathway, aggregate front porch and aggregate back patio. Replaced 6 boards and added reinforcement hardware to our deck which is 12 ft off the ground. Power washed, sanded and stain both top and underneath deck and also painted front porch for us. They were able to complete the job in 3 days. I was extremely impressed with how easy to work with and attention to detail that Nu-Wood provided (this can be a rare feature with some contractors). We are very happy with their services and would highly recommend them to anyone that needs work done on their decks.

After seeing an Angie's List award (and some good reviews) I thought I would try their services. I called numerous times at various times during the day/night and no one answered. No messages were returned and no one every answered the phone. I should have known when I saw other reviews saying their responsiveness was sub-par, but now I know for sure. If a company can't return a phone call or show up for an appointment they don't deserve an Angie's List award and certainly don't deserve my business. I would rather do the work myself than hire someone who can't even answer their phone or return messages. Be sure to read ALL their reviews and think twice before taking on the aggravation of contacting Nu Wood.

Polite and not to bad on timing due to Mother Nature

Nu Wood quoted the work and I send them a check for money down in early April. I told Mark I had a big family event at the my house in June and he told me he could get it done. I know weather was bad but I had nothing but delays & excuses. First I was told they would start Thursday May 12 then I was texted on Monday May 16 that they would start that day. I was text that much pressure washing was completed that week and had to send Mark at Nu Wood pictures of my green deck to prove no work has been done. After a bunch more texts I was told they would start on May 23 again nothing done! On Wednesday May 25th I was text and told my deck was "clean enough to eat on". I called my wife who was home all day and she said no one pressure washed at all. Again I sent pictures showing no work was done! Mark called me Wednesday night to assure me he was on top of everything as I was very upset. He hold me, Chris, is best guy would be at my house first thing Thursday and would get it pressured washed. He would give me my money back if the pressure washing was not done by Thursday and the work would be completed that weekend. Chris even called me at too and said he could even do it if it rained. Thursday I received a call from Chris at 12:53 pm saying it was going to rain Thursday late afternoon and now did not want to pressure wash. (it did not start rain until after 3:30 and the day before he said he would pressure wash in the rain) When I got home I found that no one from Nu Wood had been at my house that day. Because it was apparent NU-Wood would not get done in time. My wife and I took off work on Friday and cancelled our annual family travel plans for Memorial Day weekend & did the work ourselves.

Mark's crew did a great job and were a pleasure to work with. The entire crew worked very hard the entire time they were on the job site. While weather slowed the start time, when they arrived, they finished the job quickly and efficiently. The deck looks better than it has in years. I can't say enough good about this company. I would absolutely call Mark for future jobs.

Mark and his crew pressure washed and stained our deck, both outside and inside the screening. They were very professional and did a very nice job. The deck looks great! We had follow up questions about how to care for the finished deck and he got right back to us. Would definitely recommend him.

During initial quote, Mark was very definitive and made some great suggestions to take care of our overly-worn floor and top rail. Worked very well with us on reducing amount of time spent on vertical rails. While Nu-Wood was the same price as another quote, Mark's expertise made us feel very comfortable with the care and quality of Nu-wood's work. Mark kept us updated with the schedule - (1) trip to sand & power-wash, dry time, another trip to seal. With the rainy May we deferred until June. Finally got a break from the rain to allow Tony and his crew to begin. They did an extraordinary job with the sanding! Our floor planks were almost to the point of needing replacement, Tony's crew sanded and sealed them very well. Looks like a new deck!

Our deck was peeling due to a poor staining job performed by another company just two years ago. Mark came over very timely to do an estimate ($2,200) and explained that he was going to heavily power wash and sand the horizontal surfaces where the peeling was occurring and try to only lightly power wash the verticals since that stain was still in good condition. When Mike and Chris began working on the deck they noticed the stain on the verticals was flaking away so they called Mark over to reevaluate. They decided that the best way to move forward was to heavily power wash and sand all of the surfaces which did double the initial quote. I felt that they were honest and fair so we told them to continue the work (I also appreciated the fact that Mark was trying to save us money with the initial quote). We did have to wait several weeks for them to return as they had other projects they had scheduled since they did not anticipate this to be such a large job but we were not in a rush. They removed all of our metal spindles, moved furniture as needed and worked diligently to remove all of the flaking stain with lots and lots of power washing and sanding. When it came time to stain they were very careful to prevent overspray on the house and landscaping and took the time to roll the stain onto each of the boards. The deck looks fantastic - they really did a great job and we will definitely use them again.

Mark and his crew, including Tony, are true professionals. Mark seems to approach decks like an artist might approach a canvas. He was patient with me, waiting until September to start the job, according to my schedule. He talked in detail about the different stain options. We initially went with a translucent stain hoping to keep the natural wood grains visible, but it was clear that no translucent stain would work with old and new boards while achieving a uniform look. Mark provided samples, both pictures and stain on wood, of different colors. He explained about his past experiences with the product. His crew did not rush. Due to rain, it took Mark's crew a couple days longer than originally anticipated, but they showed no grief about it, though I knew it was costing him money for them not to work. In the end, the deck looks better than I had imagined it could. It's really stunning. There was less than $100 in expenses beyond the original quote, purely for the materials of replacement boards and screws. I felt the price was very fair, not the most inexpensive quote I received, but one reflective of the labor and materials involved. I could not be more pleased with my experience. It's clear Mark wants his customers to be happy.

We found Nu-Wood on Angie's List, and contracted with them after receiving by far the most reasonable bid of the 3 companies that we had contacted for estimates. They also provided an extensive list of glowing referrals, and owner Mark seemed very personable and easy to work with. Having just purchased a home in central KY with badly neglected cedar siding, we were worried that the siding would have to be replaced. But Mark assured us that the wood was actually in decent shape - just needed a good cleaning and staining to restore it to its original beauty. He sent us a crew out of Lexington who sure enough, in about 2 weeks time, completely transformed the house! The team, headed by Helm, did such a fantastic job - they were prompt, courteous, very careful and thorough. (They even took time to help me move some furniture from my van into the house.) They very painstakingly pressure washed all the wood surfaces - some of which were so bad that they had to be cleaned multiple times and then mildly stripped. I appreciated that they were reluctant to use heavy chemical stripping agents so as not to damage the wood. The honey-gold stain we chose for the cedar siding will take about another month or two to lighten to its final hue, but it already looks absolutely beautiful and the difference is striking! We would definitely recommend Nu-Wood for any wood refinishing needs on your home! Finally, I should point out that although the company is based in Louisville and the Angie's List service area map indicated a limited service radius, they actually do work in just about all of KY and I believe into IN and OH as well. (We almost didn't bother calling since I thought that Carlisle was outside their area.)

Refinished the deck. Professional and took care of not to overspray. Every aspect went as they described and on time. Technician was very thorough and paid attention to details. After the job was done, there was some discoloration. We notified Nu-Wood, and the issue was resolved to our complete satisfaction. They stand behind their service and product. We will definitely use them again in the future.

They did a really good job. it was very professional and very nice. They gave us a quote and we accepted that. It was another gentleman that did most of the actual sealing with the Nu-Wood product. He did a great job and took his time. We had a porch swing under our deck and they did that, too, as a bonus. Our new deck has a plastic porch but if it had a wood deck we would use NU-Wood. The owner was very passionate about his product and what he did. You could tell he cared about each job and making sure it was done right. Its a custom product, I guess, that they use.

I contacted Mark (the owner) who promptly stopped by to evaluate and provide an estimate. The deck is only 3 years old and the original stain had already begun to badly peel and fade. I met with Mark and he walked me through their normal process. He wasn't confident he would be able to get the deck in a condition to use their proprietary oil based stain but offered another option that would blend well with the original stain. He assured me my satisfaction was paramount and I directed him to proceed. He assigned a deck specialist, Jerry, that has worked for him for 19 years to my project. I can only describe Jerry's efforts and results in one word - PHENOMENAL! Jerry put in an effort to strip and sand the deck that was incredible. I was amazed at the condition of the deck after he finished the prep work. It almost looked too good to stain. Jerry proceeded to stain with Nu wood's proprietary stain and the finished product is absolutely perfect. Jerry was extremely meticulous in application and clean up and we were thrilled with the final product.

Went with another vendor based on timing and price.

They cleaned and sealed a concrete driveway and stripped and restained a deck. Both jobs went very well. We used a gray stain on the deck which was more difficult for them to apply. They made sure all surfaces were covered. We have a lot of landscaping in the area where they worked and they were very careful to not damage it. Stain was not splashed onto the house or siding.

In addition to powerwashing and staining, the folder of informational materials they sent us said they would "Repair and replace any damaged wood", and my husband discussed some cracked boards with the owner and employee during the walkthrough. Initially, they stained, but did not replace the cracked cedar boards because they didn't remember this conversation, and it didn't make it into the contract. However, later they apologized for this oversight, and made it right by coming out to fix the boards. The staining job they did does look nice in the end, and we're looking forward to it holding up to the 6-8 years that it's rated for.
