In November of 2009 I accepted the bid of Mainstreet Roofing from Les and Riener Goldring to re-roof my house. The item that clinched the deal was that an elderly neighbor in my blockwatch group recommended them as they had re-roofed her house a year or two earlier. She said that they had done a very good job. She had no skylights on her house. My house had three. I did some research and decided upon top of the line materials such as Owens Corning 30 year Duration shingles with a 140 mile per hour wind rating and Sun-Tek high efficiency glass skylights to replace the current ones on my home. In early May of 2010 there was a heavy rain and a stream of water rain down my ceiling and one interior wall. I needed to put 2 or 3 bath towels at the bottom of the wall to soak up the water. The paint and drywall was badly damaged. Later when I called my homewoners insurance company they said only one other customer's roof, out of over 3000 clients in the area, had leaked. I called Mainstreet that day. Les Goldring came out with his foreman ( Manlio Crystobal ) a couple of days later to inspect the damage. The way they repaired the leak was to cut some of the shingles farther away from the skylight wall and then run a bead of silicone caulk around the rim of two of the skylights. I knew from my experience, as a roofer in college one summer, that this was not the way to repair a leaking roof. A bead of silicone caulk will only last a few months at best. He needed to rip up that section of the roof, reflash and reseal the skylights to the deck and reshingle that area. However if they repaired the roof the right way that would eliminate his profit for the job. I asked Les to have the local Sun-tek sales representative come out to view the installation and their "repair." However Les could never seem to arrange a meeting, so I decided to contact Sun-tek who made the skylights, myself. I had taken many digital photgraphs of the leaking water, subsequent water damage and the exterior installation of the skylights. I sent the material to the application engineers at Sun-tek and asked them review the installation. Their response in writing was the skylights were not installed properly and that they should be removed and reinstalled. They sent this response in a letter to me and to Mainstreet. I then called Mainstreet and asked them for their commercial liability insurance so I could file a claim and have my house properly repaired. They ignored my repeated requests for this information. Eventually I had to hire an attorney and file suit to attempt to recover my losses. Note that my roof continued to leak during heavy rains. I eventually did have the roof repaired the right way.
Description of Work: They were to remove all existing shingles, felt paper and the existing skylights. They were to replace that with new felt paper, new shingles and new skylights. They were also to replace the existing box vents with ridge vents. After extensive research I chose top of the line materials such as Owens Corning 30 year Duration shingles with a 140 mile per hour wind rating and Sun-Tek high efficiency glass skylights with tinted glass.

We went to the customers house with the Sun Tek representative to make the repairs. The representative verified that we had installed the skylights and shingles correctly. Since we could not find anything wrong, we did a water test on the skylights. We poured water on the area for hours and could not get them to leak. The representative for Sun Tek said that he could not locate any problems or leaks. Therefore, he did not recommend any changes. We are following the advice of the Sun Tek representative. In an effort to make the customer happy, we offered to make repairs on this house, but the owner only wanted money!

Description of Work: This company is an absolute joke. I purchased a home on the contingency that the roof be replaced and the previous owners selected MainStreet Roofing. Les Goldring provided the homeowners with a proposal stating his company would replace the shingles and entire roofing system for $6,332.00 The proposal included a tear-off and specifically stated that all damaged wall and step flashing would be examined and replace at N/C (no charge). A few months after I purchased and moved into the residence, I noticed a leak in the garage. I contacted Mr. Goldring since the workmanship warranty was still in place. He and an employee came to the house, examined the leaky area and immediately determined they could not see any problem, suggesting it might be the windows. I later went on the roof myself with a water hose and determined that the leak was occurring along the flashing, which had not been replaced and looked to be original to the house, it was in such bad shape. I again called Mr. Goldring with my findings and he returned to the house where he stated that the previous owners did not 'pay' to have the flashing replaced. I later confronted Mr. Goldring with a copy of the proposal, written by him, that specifically stated all damaged flashing would be replaced at no charge. His response was that the actual signed contract did not list flashing which would have cost extra. He then offered to replace the flashing for an additional $300.00 I then questioned Mr. Goldring why the proposal (which including flashing at no charge) listed the entire project would be done for the price of $6,332.00, the exact same price that was listed on the signed contract which did not include flashing. Mr. Goldring's response was that the proposal was written for insurance purposes. At that point I advised Mr. Goldring that his explanation sounded as if he were engaging in insurance fraud. He denied the charge but could offer no reasonable explanation as to why the proposed cost matched the contract cost, yet the contract failed to fulfill the proposed work. I am currently in contact with my attorney and look forward to Mr. Goldring defending his proposal and contract in a court of law. I will report back on the findings. In the meantime, I STRONGLY encourage anyone considering MainStreet Roofing & Construction to seriously look at another company for your service needs. I am not sure why an allegedly reputable company would risk their reputation over such a minor matter. This behavior is what I would expect from a shyster or fly-by-night company and apparently MainStreet Roofing & Construction fit those definitions.

We provided the previous owner with an estimate to roof his house. The estimate included the flashing on the garage which has two windows above it. Since the previous owner was selling his property he was looking for ways to cut cost. One of the items he cut was the flashing on the garage. I showed the new owner our contract with the previous owner which clearly shows that we were not installing any flashing on the garage. Furthermore, we were never fully paid for this job by the previous owner. When the member called me the first time. We went out out to examine the area and noticed that there was a gap around the window above the roof flashing. Just to make sure it was not the flashing, we resealed that area at no charge and explained what we found. Furthermore, I explained that we would be happy to stand behind any work that we did, but that the windows and the flashing were not part of our contract. In an effort to assist the member, we offered to do the work at our cost.

The owners are very professional and seem to be good people. I told the owner I thought the charge was high but I didn't have a leg to stand on because I didn't get any other estimates. I went with Mainstreet Roofing because I had met the owner a few years ago and trusted him. The repairs took 3 men about 2 hrs. and 45 mins. and the cost of materials is unknown but couldn't have been a lot. I do feel that they did a good job even though the valley flashing they replaced is not visible from the ground.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced about 10 ft. of valley flashing. Repaired or replaced some damaged shingles. Repaired all nail pops.

The work team arrived on time and finished on time. The quality of the work was excellent and the owners are very knowledgeable and actively engaged in project oversite.
Description of Work: Removed old shingles and put on a new roof. My house is a Tudor with very steep angles, but the team did an excellent job completing the project.

We were extremely pleased with the quality of work that was performed. The crew was quick and professional, in spite of record high temperatures. They took to time to nail loose pieces of trim when they encountered them. They also cleaned up after themselves well, going over the yard with magnets to pick up loose nails. Later we were sent a nice thank you gift in appreciation of our business. We have had a heavy rain recently- no problems were apparent.
Description of Work: We had a complete replacement of the roof on our house. This included a new roof ridge vent and replacement of any defective wood.
