J's Picturescape

This was a project involving the building of two gravel patios connected by a gravel staircase. Several issues that need to be made known: 1. Verbal agreements, and even specifics in contractor drawings, were subtly lost in the contract and thus not completed. 2. There were several contract breaches, including: I. Weed barrier not used everywhere under gravel, even after I caught them trying not to use it. Grass was growing in multiple places after just one week. Ii. “Level patio” was clearly expressed in the contract, yet one of the patios was so unlevel that it required movement and addition of extra gravel and a 9” retaining wall just to ALMOST level a 9’-diameter hot tub. Note: this was a 16’ patio, so the final difference between the two patio sides was over 3’. Iii. Communication involving the issue above was completely unprofessional and remains unresolved, as this contractor insists it “looks good to [him].” 3. They did not use a tarp to unload the gravel, so we are left with a giant patch of gravel near our house that we will have to shovel to prevent from hitting our house with the use of the lawnmower.

The initial job contracted the Angie's List went well. The ratings I gave were for the initial job . The cost for the initial job with the mulch and the rental of an edger ended up costing around $550. I hired him for continued work that included edging, additional topsoil, and transplanting shrubs for $990.. He also was to install edging material which I purchased separately. He did not bring enough topsoil, or mulch. And the edging was installed wrong the first time because he did not read directions. He had to do over and ran out of time covered in our quote. Mulching was very thin and the weed control he put on was not what he quoted me on. With the thin mulch and weak weed control , needless to say I have weeds now . Also two of the shrubs he transplanted died.

They were punctual and did a very good job. The only thing I'm unhappy with is how the prepaid hours of work tripled after I was committed to using them. Based on the time that they arrived - to when they told me they were done and how many men were at the job (2) - it fit within the original prepaid timeframe(?) so I feel taken advantage of. Also other ads on the site from similar companies include haul away - they didn't. In future - I guess I will have to get a solid time estimate from any Angie's List contractor before looking at a prepaid HOUR 'deal' to avoid a similar issue. It's hard to be so critical because they did do excellent work - just a word of warning about billing.

Every thing went great. He came when he said he would, finished the job quickly and my landscaping looks great with new mulch. I am very happy I used J's picturescape.

Scheduled for 3/17...after taking off work, had to call a few times to get them out on 3/17. What I purchased from Angie's List was not exactly what I received. Special deal was for two people working 4 hours or 1 person working eight hours. One person worked 3.25 hours. I paid extra for mulch and haul away of yard waste which was fair. Work I asked for was completed and very well done. Still feel a bit like I didn't get exactly what I paid for. But at least they did good work and the yard looks much better.

Jason gave me a detailed estimate that was reasonable and delivered his services on time and on budget. He took down the tree, dethached the lawn, aerated the lawn and power seeded. The grass is coming in beautifully. There were a few missed spots and he came back and overseeded the entire lawn along with fertilizing. I had several questions along the way and he responded to each one in a timely manner. I would definitely hire him again for any future needs. :)

We had a big storm that brought down several trees on our wooded property. It was a big unsitely mess! Well it was not a problem for Jason at J's Picturescape! We can't say enough good things about this company! Jason and his employees are very polite and courteous! They not only did a great job but they cleaned-up all the mess, too. Our yard looks great! The wood was cut up and stacked up in perfect stack of firewood. We were so pleased with the job they did for us, we referred Jason to our neighbor who was struggling, trying to cut up a huge tree in his yard. Thanks, Jason, we will be calling you again!
