Excel Shop Furniture Restoration

I went to their website and after a few quick exchanges arranged for them to come to my home to pick up cabinet. It was fixed within the short time frame they provided and they were happy to hold it until I returned to town.

I had a great experience with Excel Shop. I initiated most of my communication via email and Mr. Weber was highly responsive and provided clear information. I was able to buy my own fabric and bring that in to be used on my chairs, although you can select fabric and get assistance with from this business. I dropped my chairs off and got them back earlier than expected. They look really great and I am very happy with the results. Mr. Weber was very professional throughout all of my contact with him and his business.

What first struck me negatively about this shop was their attitude which was not very customer friendly, in my opinion. I thought it might just be that they were having a bad day, which we all have, but this is the same impression I got every time that I had contact with them. It's as if they could care less about their customers & that they are doing you a favor. The bed rail needed only a minor repair which both would have not taken more than 1 hour but they originally wanted over $200 to do it. So, I decided to do one of the repairs myself since it was not critical to the function. Originally, the repair they did was promised the following week but after the week had passed & I heard nothing I called to be told (in not a friendly way) that it would be the next week. So, I made sure to follow-up and finally got it on Wednesday. I feel pretty certain that had I not called several times, I would still be waiting. Well, the repair was done OK, although the piece that they added to it was not even stained. Its on the inside so I guess its not a big deal but would have definitely looked better if it was finished the same as the railing. When I picked it up, there was dust all over it which they wiped off for me but they also left smudge marks on the outside of the railing which I had to wipe off myself. I know they seem to have some satisfied customers but just their attitude was enough to make me not want to go back. I will look for a friendlier place to do business should I need this type of work done again or just bite my tongue & tolerate their seemingly indifference towards their customers!

The workmanship completed was as expected although later than the original date. The experience was less than desired. I had called around to the different shops that were listed on Angies list and had gone with Excel since they were open on the weekends. You would think for a job that was $1,000+ he would have been more pleasant to work with however he was not accomodating at all. Standard reply was "it's a lot of chairs, not sure what else you would expect". I had in-laws that were going to be in town and staying at our house, I called on the weekend they were going to be finished, the response was "well, it's alot of chairs, not sure on what date they'll be done". Again, not accomodating or pleasant to deal with. Also, doesn't take credit cards, you have to pay in cash or a check. In hindsight I should have gone with one of the other businesses that do the same repair, they were much more pleasant to deal with and also fairly priced.

Excellent work, timely, but a bit on expensive side -- that's what quality costs.

turned a sow's ear into a silk purse. they provide pick up and delivery service. went very well. i sent the piece to them about a month before i moved and told them i was in no hurry but i wanted it delivered to my new address when it was finished. time frame was a month. the inside of the drawers were even refurbished and new felt was installed in one drawer (for silver storage) and polished the brass handles. they delivered to my new address and it was great. i've used them before and already have another piece in the pipeline for repair. do give them plenty of time to work their magic.

Took two trips to the shop. Cushions did not feel right. Finally took them to another Angie's List upholsterer.

Very professional and polite. I took a ripped chair cushion in for repair, and they stitched it up for me free, on the spot. Unbelievable.

Excel did a great job refinishing th top to our kitchen table. After 25 years of heavy family use it looked pretty shabby. Excel made It look brand new again--the finish is beautiful. Moreover, when the delivery man returned the finished top he took the time to reattach it to the table for us. We will use Excel again.

I found them through some friends and they are pretty much the most renowned furniture restorer/refinisher in the area. They are a smaller family business. They are the people to go to in town if you want high end work done. I was absolutely satisfied with the work. The price was relative for the quality of work they did.

I highly recommend Excel Shop Furniture Restoration. They are a little high in price, the quality makes it worth it. I will continue to use them.

The chair is now sturdy, doesn't wobble and the repair is practically invisible. Very good job. They were professional, didn't beat around the bush about the pricing and since I gave them plenty of time with no deadline, it was completed in a timely manner. They carried the chair in and out for me and I'd use them again in a heartbeat

Excel Shop is absolutely the best in Louisville! They like to handle things by e-mail, and all I had to do was send them some pictures of the furniture and some details about what I wanted done, and they replied with an estimate, which ended up to be almost exactly what the final bill was. These two pieces are family heirlooms, about 90-100 years old, and I was VERY particular that they be done well. I purchased my own fabric, after Steven at Excel told me how much to buy. They do have fabric there for you to choose from, however. My sofa and chair needed to be re-upholstered, needed new cushions, and had to have the exposed feet refinished. They told me it would be 4 weeks from the day I brought them in, but it was only 2-1/2 weeks! They do charge extra if you have them pick up and deliver your furniture, but we were able to take the items and pick them up ourselves, to save money. Steven gave me a tour of the shop the day we brought them in, and they are doing some amazing restoration work there! I didn't get any other estimates, so I don't really know about the price, but I have heard that Excel is pretty high. However, you get what you pay for, and their work is outstanding! The sofa and chair are smooth and tight, the fabric was cut exactly on the grain, and they made the best possible use of the amount of fabric they had. The new cushions are nice and firm. They are just beautiful! I have 2 Victorian chairs that I will take to Excel in the near future.
