Response from CLASSIC HOME CENTER
I reviewed the information we have in our data base regarding this customer and the 2008 time period, the original call was for storm damage to part of the house, which we assessed accordingly but by the time we actually did the work, their were a number of complications to the job which caused several adjustments to the original estimate. For instance the customer had a new roof put on, which the roofers removed and reinstalled the Gutter Helmet, which created several problems in itself, when they removed and reinstalled the Gutter Helmet it was reinstalled incorrectly, they reset the panels wrong and nailed the Gutter Helmet to the roof under the 2nd shingle, (we do not use nails to fasten the Gutter Helmet down, this prevents us from being able to do any maintanance on the material if need, because we cannot easily remove the panels), they also overlaid the shingle on top of the Gutter Helmet so far down that in order to even get to the nails holding the Gutter Helmet down at this point becomes mute, due to the fact that raising the shingles up far enough to be able to pull the nails out would result in shingle damage, and we do not want that. In order to due the repairs properly we had to take several complicated steps, and the result was a lot more of the Gutter Helmet had to be replaced new, (we had to cut of the existing Gutter Helmet to get to the storm damaged gutter underneath), than would have been necessary had the Gutter Helmet not been tampered with as was the case here. * NOTE: We provide a service to remove and reinstall the Gutter Helmet for customers in the event they need a new roof, we make sure it is reinstalled according to specs, replacing the brackets new and making sure the gutters are free flowing the same as at the original install, when our certified installers remove and reinstall the product this allows the existing warranty to remain in effect and assures the customer that the Gutter Helmet is installed as it should be. This is a paid service of course, but the cost is no where near the damages we have seen from others, (roofers in particular), which end up costing the homeowner way more to fix the Gutter Helmet in the end when it was easily preventable; however the homeowner is free to have whomever they choose to remove and reistall the product at there own risk which,(we cannot and will not warranty), often with the same results as what this customer unfortunatley suffered. In the end we were able to do the repairs needed, but ended up replacing a lot of Gutter Helmet, and unfortunatley the homeowner did not want all the Gutter Helmet on the home that had been roofed over replaced, so there are still sections that are installed incorrectly, but the area's where we were able to fix properly are back under warranty and in good working condition, it was a costly job, but we did work with the customer to keep the price down, I am sorry though that he still felt it was extremely high, we did the best we could under the circumstances.
