This is the second time that I have used Carlon Roofing. The first time was when I was living in Prospect and had a roof leak. Carlon Roofing promptly came out and fixed my roof at a very reasonable cost. This time, I needed my whole roof replaced on my Anchorage house. Once again, Carlon Roofing delivered an exceptional service. I was very pleased with the high quality product and service they provided. Their roofers even worked most of the weekend to complete the job which is not what I would have expected them to do. I am very impressed with my roof and I highly recommend Carlon Roofing.

We recently bought our home, and the home inspector completely missed that the roof was in utter disrepair. We literally had a leak not 8 hours after closing. We took several bids for a new roof from different roofing companies. After speaking with Jack, the owner I was sold on Carlon. He is the most up front and honest guy I talked to out of all of them. He gave me a fair price on our roof with an honest opinion of what needed to be done. When you're paying for it out of your own pocket, you're a little more cautious than when the insurance company is paying for it. Their installers showed up at 10 to 7am and worked until nearly 10pm the first day then came back at 7am the next day and worked until it was done. They worked their rears off. Our roof is very steep, and they did a wonderful job. Jack was very responsive when the ridge vent had an issue after snow blew under. We discussed options, and he sent his guys out as soon as the roof was safe to redo the venting style of the roof. The chimney cap is beautiful, but took a really long time to get. The first one took about a month to fabricate, but the installers that came out had some issues trying to get it up there. They accidentally dropped it and destroyed it as well as damaged our deck railing and a support joist. Jack took the cost of the deck repair off our cap cost and had another one fabricated which was installed without issue. The seal was done with only an issue with over spray on the windows. Jack sent his guys out to clean them as soon as I let him know.

The initial work went well. This company was more expensive than some, but they were local and had been around for a while. The new roof looked nice, and they cleaned everything up. The problem started about a year and a half later when I noticed a leak around the chimney. They did come out twice and tried to re-caul, but the leak continued. I called more than once with no returned call even when the woman in the office said they would call back within 30 minutes. When I did talk to someone from the company I had a really rude encounter and was told that I would be responsible for paying portion of the roof they ripped up if no leak was found. He later apologized for his outburst. I was then told it must be my actual chimney leaking and not the roof. Of course they provide that service for additional fee. I went searching on the internet for tests on how to see if a roof is leaking and asked for a hose test to be done. I asked for this test. They came and within moments of started the water started coming into the attic. He took pictures to document the leak. They did ultimately fix the leak and there have been no problems since. I would be hesitant to recommend because my interactions with trying to get the leak fixed was unprofessional.

[Member Info Removed], Thank you for taking the time to provide honest feedback on your experience with the company. While it does not change the situation, the Estimator/Technician that you worked with is no longer with the company. We are however using your feedback as a teaching tool for new employees. We value our customers and strive to provide the best customer service. Unfortunately, all roofing leaks cannot be diagnosed and subsequently repaired each and every time on the very first visit. Any roofing company will disclose this. While we did replace your roof and then charge for additional chimney repairs that were NOT part of the original scope of work, we provided non-billable repairs to fix your issue. The Louisville, KY area has to date had over 51 inches of rain and we are exceeding the record by over one foot. Since the repairs were completed May 6, 2015 and you are just now providing a review- the 6 months of steady rain has not caused additional issues. We look forward to maintaining your roof to the original warranty. Again we appreciate your candid review.

The Carlon Roofing team, and Jack Carlon specifically, where a pleasure to work with. This job, while small for him, was a challenging job to tackle. Other roofing companies looked at the scope, and wouldn't touch the project. Jack came in, brought some of the key members of his team, and came up with a solution that worked. In addition, there were some constraints around finances for this job, and once we had received our funds, Jack was able to get the job done in record time. He definitely blew away my expectations in terms of time needed to complete the job, quality of work, returning the job site (our home and yard) back to a perfect condition, and value for what we paid. My wife and I are both architects, so we probably were demanding at times. I would highly recommend and would absolutely hire Carlon Roofing again in the future.

i needed a new roof and after getting 3 estimates I chose Carlon Roofing. The 3 estimates were competitive and close in price. I chose Carlon Roofing because of their reputation and personal references from friends who have used this company. They were professional, timely and I was extremely satisfied with their work. I would highly recommend this company!

This was a hail damage job, paid by my insurance company. I chose Carlon because of the excellent work they had done installing the roof eight years earlier. They didn't disappoint. Even though they were overwhelmed with jobs due to hail damage, they kept me completely informed on the scheduling of my job throughout the process. The job also involved replacement of the Gutter Helmet product with Carolon's own equivalent gutter guard. The sales rep, Trey, is completely honest, responsive, and trustworthy. Their crews worked in 100+-degree heat to get the job done. Quality is outstanding. I couldn't be happier

Due to the recent hailstorm, I contacted Carlon along with 2 other roofing companies to quote on my roof repair. The estimator was on time for the meeting and that is where things fell apart. The estimator was unwilling to provide an estimate and seemed put off by the fact that I would not simply sign the contract and "let them handle the negotiations with the insurance company". He then went on to inform me that I was going to get "screwed" by my insurance company regardless of what they were willing to pay. Additionally he stated that the only way I was going to get a "quality" roof was to use Carlon and not by getting quotes and repairs from "storm chasers". I mentioned that I had obtained quotes from 2 other long term Louisville based companies and he said they must be using inferior materials. When I kept probing on why he wouldn't write a quote, he told me that he didn't need to as they already had 1,000 jobs booked due to the hailstorm. I then proceeded to ask him if he would have written a quote if had come a week before the hailstorm and acknowledged that yes they were writing quotes prior to the storm. The ironic thing is that he never even bothered to take a look at the roof. All he was interested in was getting the contract signed. As you will note from my review, I didn't rate price, quality or responsiveness as it never progressed beyond the sales call. Bottom line, I can not do business with someone that will not even write a proposal or quote for a job and then expect me to sign off and let them negotiate on my behalf without knowing what they are charging. Updated 1/2/13 I just wanted to update my initial review of Carlon Roofing. After my review, Jack Carlon contacted me and personally came out and wrote up a detailed estimate of the work to be completed and he took the time to review some upgrades to the existing roof that would be beneficial in the long run. He also assisted with the insurance company review of the required work and caught several items the adjustor had missed. He also appoligized for the negative experience I had with their sales person. All of my dealings with Jack have been very positive and my revised rating reflect his "damage control" efforts after the initial experience. The new roof looks great and everyting has been very positive. I ultimately rated the overall experience as a "B" which was upgraded from the initial "F". If it weren't for his sales person, Carlon Roofing would have recieved an "A".

Eric Reader came out to provide an estimate in January, 2011. Initially he asked me to sign a form to "give him permission to speak with my insurance agent." when in reality it was a contract giving them exclusive rights to negotiate with my insurance company for me and to take all proceeds. Then when I retracted that and told him that he mis-informed me and that I was handling my claim with my insurance agent, he then provided me with three quotes - one for the metalwork on my roof, another for the slate work and the final one for my carriage house. When he made the estimate he placed a ladder up the side on my home and then covered my roof with a blue tarp (even though it wasn't raining). When my insurance adjuster came the next week we looked under the tarp and saw that portions of my existing copper roof had been ripped up and taken away using that ladder that Carlon left conveniently propped beside my home. I then went over in detail what was to be done on the standing seam copper roof and told him that the insurance company asked me to retain the rest of the scrap copper (worth assumedly about $5,000+) he told me that they took it off and placed it in my garage. I walked down with him immediately to my garage and it wasn't there - he then assured me that he would "get it back" and he never did. They took this without permission and failed to ever return it. They then began work on the new roof and did an awful job - please see pics - then when they were finishing up on the main section and I saw them starting to pack things up - I reminded them that they still has other sections to do. The workers said they knew nothing about the rest of the metal work to be done even though it was in the contract to replace all copper. So when I called Eric Reader he tells me to keep quiet about it and that his boss doesn't know anything about the extra work but he was going to get it done "on the side." I told him that I never agreed to keep quiet about it and that the work needed to be done and asked him why my new roof had such incredibly bad workmanship. He said that he would check into it and get that corrected. Of course he never did. I then got a call from the owner Jack Carlon demanding that we paid him the remainder of the $20,800 (we had paid an initial $8000 downpayment) for the job which was only about 60 done and done very badly - see Photos. At that time I again requested that the scrap copper be returned or at least the monies they received from the scrap be applied to my bill and he claimed that it belonged to them since they removed it - I guess it is like hiring a tow truck driver to move your car and now they own it since they moved it. We then had a face to face meeting where Eric Reader changed into an entirely different person. He did not recall any conversations we had - of course I have emails and his employees to back it up. But in the conversation Jack Carlon, who I was told was the owner came out and began to tell me what Eric and I agreed to. Now understand that Jack Carlon would have no clue what we talked about but he was certain anyway. He told me that he would do the side roof which was only a part of what was left off if I were to pay them an additional $3,000 (this roof is a metal roof about 3 ft by 8 ft). After about an hour of his threatening I told him to make me a proposal and I would consider it. The proposal came through as I was to pay an additional $3,000 and they would partially fix the small roof - repair only the roof on the front porch (which also should have been included) and that they would only do that if I agreed to give them the other two jobs of replacing the slate and carriage house. Well of course this initial job was horrendous and I would never want them to attempt anything with my property in any shape or form and so I told them absolutely not. No matter how detailed you think their estimate is - please understand that from my experience, they will change it to their own selfish interpretation. But moreover take the time to look at and consider their work product itself. Again I have photos and you are welcome to gather as much information from me as you want - All I can say is that I would stay as far away from this company as possible - I am in the process of positing a website complete with photos - phone conversations, emails, contracts it is called X and I would be aware that they just might try to change the company's name but be very aware of Jack Carlon and Eric Reader which it comes to any type of work on your home.
Description of Work: They were to replace an entire standing seam copper roof that had sustained considerable hail damage - that along with all metalwork which included copper in-line box gutters and a small roof on my bay window and another on the front porch. In short, the remover my old copper roof and told me that they placed the scrap in my garage but I went down with them that day and they took it and sold it for scrap and kept the proceeds even though I expressly told them that my insurance wanted me to keep the scarp before work began. The standing seam copper roof that they replaced looks like something from a car wreck - really bad seams, welding, connections and badly bent joints, etc. The old roof look much better even with the hail damage. The box gutters they decided to weld and not replace - they simply didn't need it was the comment even though I contracted for them to replaced them and they had the same hail damage as the roof - If the box gutters didn't need to be replaced did my roof? The Bay window they simply did not do and refused to do along with the front porch roof. Finally they were to replace all roof valleys where the water flows down to the gutters and they did none of these. Eric Reader was very nice and polite agreeing to everything but apparently fails to tell his boss and when confronted changed his version of the truth to match what the owner Jack Carlon wanted. I plan on posting more on Facebook - CarlonRoofing.com - Better business bureau an have even hired people for publicity for search engine optimization and anything else I can as I am now incurring major legal expenses because they actually think that I am going to give up on this issue. I now need a whole new copper roof and all work done again. Nothing they did was of quality workmanship nor beneficial to my home.

They were the runner up in my bidding. Their price was a little bit higher and the competition, and their guy who gave the price wasn't as thorough in looking at the work that needed to be done (he didn't get on the roof and look at the work, and didn't discuss locations for downspouts or go over their process for gutter replacement, etc), and I felt like he could have done a better job of looking things over to avoid surprises. That was enough to tip me a different direction. update: My initial review probably came across as more negative than I intended. I wasn't happy with their bid on the project, and I thought their guy wasn't very thorough or professional, but I wasn't unhappy or angry with them either. I would let them bid another project that came up, but I wanted to cite the reasons why I went with a different company. One of their representatives contacted me for more information about what happened, and I appreciate that they took the time to respond and try to understand why the review was negative.
Description of Work: All I received was a bid on roof repair and gutter replacement. A rep came out and viewed the work and wrote a quote on the back of a business card.

Company responded to request for bid in a timely manner. Salesman was professional and helpful and the experience was good. Bid was one of three. I choose this company, based on the Angie's list rating, BBB grade and because they were a personal referral. Roofing began within a week of contact signing. All went well until the last day of work when crew had to rush due to falling temperatures and pending ice storm. Completation of flashing and cleanup could not be done until snow and ice melted which was about 3 weeks. During that time I had leaking around skylites, drywall seams seperation and water spots on ceiling as a result of the leaking. Due to the original crew being seperated from the job before cleanup could occur the attempted clean-up by workers who were not familiar with the progress of the job, was unfocused and disappointing. Drop cloths were not used so roofing debris and nails were in gutters, on window ledges on and around landscaping and on driveway. I made numerous request for completion of cleanup and workers were sent out to my house numerous times but without supervision and direction. Landscaping lights were broken. scrubs stepped on and items (my tools) used and/or taken from the outside. Several bags of roofing tiles which I paid for were to be left should I need them in the future were taken by the flashing crew. On a positive side I reported a skylite leak and a worker came out within days and adjusted flashing and the leak has stopped. I think the experience would have been more positive had it not been for the interruption in work due to the ice storm which I understand but cleanup was included in the contract.

We chose Carlon because they had done several roofing jobs in our neighborhood. The estimate with Eric went fine. Then problems started. The morning the job was scheduled, we had made arrangements to miss work to be home. We received a call from Eric 10 minutes AFTER they were scheduled to arrive to start the job and Eric said he was on his way over. He arrived simply to tell us that the materials had not arrived on time and the job would not be done that day. We rescheduled. When I came home, it didn't look like anything had been done. I called Eric and he said the job had not been done because he thought it had rained. He never took the time to call me with this information. We rescheduled a third time and Eric said he would call me by noon to give me an update. I did not hear from him and once again had to call him to find out the job status. His only explanation was that he had been busy! He then told me the job was finally completed. When I inspected the job, the screen repair was not completed. At that point we were so frustrated with the lack professional customer service (follow-up and communication) that we said we would have someone else do the screen repair. I then wrote a letter to Carlon two weeks ago and have had no response at all. Bottom line, if you are looking for a company that offers timely, customer service focused work, do not use Carlon.

Our roof was damaged by Hurricane Ike in September of 2008. I called Carlon Roofing and very quickly I was talking to the owner who came by our house to assess. We decided to replace the roof and gutters. Material was dropped off within a couple days of Agreement and work started and finished on time. The crew did a good job of explaining what they were doing and did a good job of clean-up when the roof was complete.

They came out to give us an estimate and noticed that the insurance company's inspection had left a few things out. I was completely satisfied with their work and I would highly recommend them.
