BRECHER'S LIGHTING

Brecher's has a large collection of lighting in its showroom, plus a huge catalog from which you can search for other items. Prices are somewhat high, but selection is very good; service leaves a lot to be desired. It was rather busy the day I was there, and I was in the store for at least 20 minutes before anyone greeted or offered to assist me. When I asked the sales rep whether I could return something if I didn't like how it looked in my kitchen, he replied in a snotty tone that I could not return something that had been installed. I chose a light fixture and took it home to install before a dinner party the next evening. Imagine my surprise when my husband tried to install the light and found parts were missing because someone else had already purchased and installed this fixture. The company that was so snooty about its return policy didn't even check this returned item to make sure all the parts were there before selling it to me. When I called the next morning to ask if I could get a replacement in time for my dinner party that night, I was told they didn't have any in stock. So, we had to reinstall our old, unattractive fixture for the party and wait to get a replacement until Brecher's got one from its Lexington store. I would shop here again because it is the only place in east Louisville that has a nice selection of unique lighting fixtures, but if you're looking for friendly, welcoming service staff, you'll need to drive on past this store.

I'd like to offer an unsolicited testimonial for Brecher's Lighting for their customer service recently. Two years ago I had a contractor from Indiana remodel my kitchen and he used an electrician to install new lighting. The contractor purchased several under-cabinet LED light fixtures from a lighting company in Indiana (not Brecher's). He provided me copies of the receipts that showed he was the purchaser. Recently, one of the under-cabinet LED units stopped working. I know nothing about these things so I called Allen Electric, who I have used for a number of electrical issues and who provided excellent customer service as well, although they were not involved in the kitchen remodeling. I thought it was a minor issue (like replacing some special light bulbs). , The assigned electrician, came and said the unit had to be replaced (there are no bulbs to be replaced) and that it was aand quot;driverand quot; that was defective. A new unit would cost nearly $200. I showed him the receipts that I had. He took the unit and discussed it with his service manager. They looked it up and found that the brand has a 15 year warranty. They contacted the lighting company in Indiana where the contractor had purchased the LED lights and tried to get them to honor the warranty. That lighting company argued with them that the warranty was only good for the contractor and neither I )the ultimate consumer) nor Allen electric had been involved in the purchase. I subsequently tried calling that company myself and met the same argument. I resigned myself to having to purchase a new unit at the expected $200 price and went to Brecher's here in Louisville. A very helpful young lady, named Tina, at Brecher's waited on me and I explained the situation and told her that I needed to purchase a new unit. She said she couldn't understand why the lighting company in Indiana had taken that position. She said she would see what she could do and would discuss it with the Kichler (brand of the fixture) representative. I left the defective unit with her and she made a copy of the receipt from the Indiana company. She subsequently called me and said the Kichler rep had told her to just replace the unit with a new one Brecher's wasn't involved at all in the original sale/purchase of the LED fixtures and they could have just sold me a new, expensive unit . Instead, Tina went above and beyond and provided excellent customer service by simply working with the manufacturer's rep to have the warranty honored. She dealt with me honestly and provided the kind of customer service that is all too rare with businesses these days. I am grateful for her help and, although they did not make a sale this time, I will certainly do business with them in the future and recommend them to anyone needing lighting. I'm not related to anyone at Brecher's and didn't post this at their request or for any compensation. I just think honest, trustworthy and competent people who provide excellent customer service should be recognized. The guy who hung the lamp brought a ladder that was about two feet too short and he made me very nervous. Everything was great and I would give them an A across the board. I thought that the price was very reasonable.

It went well. There were some issues with the fixtures but they came back until it was right. They would call before they came out to make an appointment. They were very responsive and accommodating.
