Description of Work: Our sewer started backing up on a Monday afternoon. Blackburn and Davis came out that day and ran a line through. I was told that they ran "150 ft" and could not find any issue. They advised me to call MSD. MSD was not able to come out until Tuesday around noon. They found no problems and none of my neighbors had sewage issues. So I called B&D back. They could not make it until 10:30 the next morning. Wednesday comes around and B&D came back to work on the sewer. Now they tell me there was a blockage but they cannot locate where so they will have to dig a hole in the yard. This is completely different than what I was told orginally. At this point we have not been able to drain any water so it really needs to get fixed. The backhoe they use was on another job so I had to wait until Thursday morning this time. The hole was dug and the pipe was borken (they determined a clean-out needed to be installed). No ETA on how long it will take... The crew did not finish until 2:30 the next day. | |The communication with B&D was very poor on their part. I would ask questions and received a different answer almost each time. When the hole was refilled, the crew left the broken pipe in the dirt along with the gloves they used. Various trash was left in the yard (water bottles, cup tops).

+ 0 moreThey have come out several times to my house. They are right down the street for me. They came back pretty quickly. They work in if there is any emergency. They are reliable. They have always seemed to come in and did the job in a reasonable time. They were always on time. They usually know what they are talking about.

+ -1 moreI was given an estimate for the work by Bob but by the time we went to work I had made changes to the project and Bob had to redo it. He was flexible with our changes and seemed to credit and charge things appropriately. His work crew was headed by a man named Bill who was a very good worker and nice guy. He and his crew worked diligently and did all they were asked. They also recommended some changes such as a recirculator for the hot water and non freezing faucets for the outside hoses..overall the work was done pretty much on time and within budget, albeit a larger budget than I had hoped.
Description of Work: We replaced all water lines and drains to two first floor baths and two second floor baths. They replace all four toilets and set three sinks as well as plumbed for a new shower. They also replaced all water lines and drains for first and second floor kitchens(house is a duplex). They replaced old cast iron drain in basement with new pvc drain and set two slop sinks. they also ran a new gas line up to attic for furnace. They did various other small projects while in the house.

+ 2 moreFound sump pump not working, called that morning, fixed that afternoon. I've used Blackurn & Davis regularly for over 40 years, and have consistantly received good service at a reasonable price. Better overall experience than with other plumbing, HVAC contractors I've called in the past.

+ 0 moreI was VERY happy that they could take care of this problem before I left. This was the time we had the big ice storm. My regular furnace guy was unavailable and I was was frantically calling around. Another company came and told me I needed a whole new furnace. So a fan motor sounded like a much better alternative. The problem came up a year and a half later when the motor stopped working. I called and they sent out a serviceman who said it was past the one year warranty and I'd have to get a new one. Blower motors last for years. I was not happy that they would not stand behind their work. Then I got a bill for $85! When I called and asked what it was for, Bob Franzman told me that was their usual service charge. I complained that not only would they not negotiate on a new blower, but they were charging me for a guy to come a block away and tell me the warranty was up. My regular furnace man, Ronnie Wallace, came and installed a new blower for a $150 less than B&D's price. They ARE greedy! and no longer operate like the family business they used to be. I told them I would never call again.
Description of Work: My furnace stopped working just before I had to leave for 2 weeks in the winter. They are a neighborhood company who came in a pinch and installed a new blower motor. But it didn't last but a year and a half.

+ -1 moreI spent $100 on the job. They have been good. They unclogged the toilet for me, which I couldn’t do myself. They adjusted the chain on another toilet, which was causing the problem. I asked the guy as to how he could be so cheerful at 8 in the morning, cleaning out a toilet. They were very upbeat, punctual, and friendly. They did what needed to be done. I think they were very professional. I will use them again in the future.
Description of Work: I have used Blackburn & David Inc. for unclogging my toilet. The last time I used them was sometime within the last three months.

+ 0 moreBlackburn and Davis came in and never even flinched. Many other companies, didn't show up after agreeing to do the work. When I called them to ask why, they said it was too difficult and not profit making. Blackburn did the work quickly, came when they said they would come. Helped me with design and let me know what would be cost saving measures. I have many other projects to be done and Blackburn and Davis will do them.
Description of Work: I have remodeled 2 bathrooms in my 150 year old home. Needless to say the work was VERY challenging. I had to completely gut a room, move the bathroom to that space. On the second bath, they converted what was a "sleeping porch" to a full functioning bathroom. They also helped me maintain the "style " of the house by helping me locate fixtures, that were used during specific time periods in American history.

+ -1 moreThey charged about $230, but there was still water under the cabinet. I called back, and they sent someone out - without charge - to tighten the pipes. There was still water. They came out a third time and this time said that there was a leak in the faucet and they weren't sure they could fix it without tearing out the cabinet. I obviously didn't want them to rush into that, so I told them to leave it. They sent me a bill for $85 for that visit. I called and complained that I needed to stop a leak, they failed to do it, and I have to pay close to $270 for it. They said that there were likely two separate leaks, and the faucet leak was not there before. I said that I doubted that was the case, and for all I knew, they didn't need to fix the pipes at all. They responded that they would never do business like that.
Description of Work: Called the company to perform two jobs: fix slow drain and fix leak under sink. They fixed the slow drain and installed all new drain pipes under the sink.

+ -1 moreI GOT SCREWED. I FELT 600 DOLLARS WAS A LOT OF MONEY FOR 2 HOURS WORK. THEY LOADED THE TRUCK, DISCONNETED THE OLD AIRCONDITIONER RECONNECTED A NEW ONE THEN LEFT. IN GENERAL THEY HAVE A VERY GOOD REPUTATION AND THEY ARE GOOD PLUMBERS. THEY HAVE DONE OTHER JOBS FOR ME IN THE PAST. I WAS VERY HAPPY TO FIND THEM, BUT I DO FEEL THEY ARE GREEDY.
Description of Work: THEY DISCONNETED AND RECONNECTED AN AIR CONDITIONING UNIT.

+ -1 moreTHE REASON I CALLED THEM WAS BECAUSE MY MOTHER USED TO USE THEM IN THE 50'S. IT'S STILL AN OLD TIME COMPANY. THE SERVICE WAS VERY OLD SCHOOL AND IT WAS COMFORTING. WHEN THE MAN FINISHED DOING HIS JOB, I SAID, "HEY, DON'T I HAVE TO PAY YOU NOW?" AND, HE SAID, "YOU'LL GET A BILL." I JUST FELT THAT WAS VERY OLD TIME, LIKE BACK WHEN MY MOTHER USED IT.

+ -1 moreTHEY WERE JUST A LITTLE LESS THAN SUPERB, BUT WERE ADEQUATE. I HAD SOME SHOTTY WORKMANSHIP HERE BEFORE, BUT THIS PARTICULAR COMPANY WAS OKAY. I HAVE NO PARTICULAR QUALMS WITH IT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF THEY COULD HAVE FIXED THE OLD ONE, BUT THAT IS NOT THERE FAULT SO I CAN BLAME THEM. THEY DID THE BEST THEY COULD.
Description of Work: THEY REPLACED A DISPOSE-ALL GARBAGE DISPOSAL. THEY WERE GOING TO TRY AND FIX THE OLD ONE, BUT ONCE THEY GOT IN THERE THEY SAID IT WAS DESTROYED. MY SON RAN THE THING FOR TEN MINUTES WITH A SPOON IN THERE.
