We contracted with Black Tie Moving for Tuesday, July 30, 8:30 a.m. arrival, to move our things from one home to the other. Around 7:00 a.m. that morning, I was awakened by a call from a representative of Black Tie saying that due to a "100% chance of rain all day" we were being rescheduled for the next day, July 31, which happened to be the day we were closing on two houses. When I questioned the decision, he informed me that "nothing stops movers like rain". Moving in the rain is a fall hazard. If pushed, we could go on with the move with the understanding that if it rained, the movers would have to stop until the it ceased and the ground dried, all on our clock @ $200 an hour. Keep in mind, I wasn't even awake and had no idea of the weather forecast for the day. Our backs were to the wall at this point. We had no other choice but to reschedule. As it turned out, there was only a slight chance of brief scattered showers in our area, not the 100% all day that was relayed to me. We did get a brief shower around 7:30 that evening, well past our move time. Rescheduling our move complicated the process 100 fold. My realtor tried to reschedule the closings for later in the day, but too many people were involved, making it impossible. At that point, she volunteered to come to our home and facilitate the move. With the change, we decided to have only our furniture moved and expressed this to the crew when they arrived and to our realtor before we left for closings. My husband went through each room with the crew lead letting him know each piece we wanted moved. Preparing for the move, I had all items labeled and color-coded according to the room each piece was to be moved into in my new home. I didn't stop to consider placement of items in those rooms. Because I could not be with the movers as items were delivered, my husband and I had to move furniture in each room when we arrived, hours after the movers had finished. My realtor sent pictures of everything that the movers were leaving at the old address trying to make sure our requests were being followed, but we were in closings. By the time I was able to check her text showing that our freezer was not on the truck to the new address, they were already in route. I immediately called to let them know they left the freezer. The lead said they were not told the freezer was to be moved and he would see if he could schedule going back for it once they delivered the load they had on the truck. We were charged for the time it took them to make the second trip. If the move had gone on the day we scheduled and I had been there to facilitate the move, the freezer would not have been left. We arrived to find our bedroom furniture, our newest and most expensive pieces, damaged in many areas. The front door of our new home was also damaged on both sides. If I had been able to facilitate the move, I would have been able to access those damages at the time and speak with the lead. My realtor had no idea of the condition of the furniture prior to the move. I have video of the furniture date stamped just prior to the move showing no issues. When the lead called to inform that they were finished and the freezer had been moved, he apologized for the reschedule. He said he hated the situation because they do such a great job with their moves and he knew we were not happy with the change. He told us there were 5 moves scheduled for the 30th. They knew they were unable to do all and used the possibility of rain as their excuse to reschedule. He said they rescheduled customers based on their idea of necessity. We were rescheduled because we didn't have to be out of our home until the 31st. We specifically sought out our seller to arrange for our things to be moved in early and worked with our insurance company to make sure we were covered should there be any liability with the move. Bottom line, Black Tie Moving over-scheduled and took it upon themselves to decide our moving date, even though we were given confirmation by text of our move at 11:25 a.m. on the 29th stating the movers would arrive between 8 and 9:30 a.m. on the morning of the 30th. Our original estimate shows all of the furniture, including the freezer, we wanted moved. It also shows an estimated 100 boxes/totes to be moved at a cost of $1100-1200. Coincidentally, our final statement was $1,186.92 and Black Tie moved only the furniture listed, not the 100 boxes/totes, and we were charged for the freezer they left. Needless to say, we are more than dissatisfied with the service we received.
