Goods were picked up on time. When I got to VA, I called to see where my goods were. No one knew what I was talking about. Took several days. Finally found them. Still in Louisville. They were delivered on time. The employees who picked up the goods and delivered them were polite and considerate. My problem was with the office employees. They did not know anything and they did not care.

I received an estimate from this company as well as three other moving companies. The estimate was for $2875. I requested a move early on May 31 and the window for delivery was from June 1-June 8. During the estimate, Rob said that as they got closer, the window for delivery would be narrowed. I was told my moving time on the 31st would start between 9-11 am, which worked well since I was closing on my house that afternoon at 4:30. On the day of the move, the driver called me around 10 am letting me know they would be there between 1-3 pm. I told them that was not what was promised because I needed to make my closing that afternoon. The Louisville crew arrived about 2 (my closing ended up getting pushed back that afternoon, so this actually worked out well in the end, but could have been bad). The Louisville crew was professional and very nice. They took very good care of my furniture and took apart my bed and the dining room table. However, they did not bring boxes to pack the television or glass top dining room table. They wrapped it well and said they would pack it at the warehouse. However, they did not have a timeframe for delivery. I called Todd on that day and was told they did not have a window. They knew it would not be delivered on the 1st, which was good since I was driving to Charlotte on that day. On the 2nd, I had not heard anything, so I called back. I was told they did not know, but should know delivery time the next day. On the 3rd, Christie called me at 10 am and said my furniture would be delivered later that afternoon. She did not have a time, but told me to call back if I had not heard anything by 2pm (I have this message on my phone). At 2pm, I called her back. She said, "I'm sorry I gave you the wrong impression, but they are not delivering your furniture today." I canceled all my plans on that day, including going into the office of my new company. I was really angry. She said they would deliver the furniture early the next week, which would be the 6th or 7th. On the 6th and 7th, I called back and they still did not have a time frame. Finally, they said that my furniture would be delivered on the 10th, two days after the quoted estimate. On the 10th, the Charlotte driver arrived around 9 am. However, he did not bring a crew at all. He said he had a guy who was going to come and help, but after an hour, no one else showed up. I ENDED UP HAVING TO HELP THE MOVER MOVE THE FURNITURE I PAID THIS COMPANY TO DO THEMSELVES!! We spent all morning moving my furniture up to a fourth floor apartment. We finally stopped at about 1 PM. He also told me the Louisville crew did not box my television or dining room table. They moved those items down to Charlotte where he boxed them up at the Charlotte warehouse. Luckily they were not damaged. He also did not put my bed together, nor even helped me put my dining room table back together. In fact, I pretty much had to lead the entire second half of this move. The guy was nice, but I was very angry. The irony is that my friends in Louisville offered to rent a U-Haul and help me move myself. However, I had several heavy pieces and my company was paying for the relocation. I thought hiring a professional mover would save me some stress on my body, since I am not a young guy any more. If I had known it was going to take so long to get my furniture AND I would have to move it myself when it arrived, I would have just rented the U-Haul. AND I still had to pay the full price of the move. The company really should reimburse me for the second half of that move. I will never use this group again and I have told my company and everyone I know never to use Berger/Allied. I would beware of the promises they make during the estimate. I thought I was going with the best company of the three and probably ended up with the worst.
Description of Work: Relocation from Louisville, KY to Charlotte, NC; I packed myself, but asked them to pack my television, a dining room table with built-in glass top, and some large pictures.

The loading team was exceptionally curious and professional. Took excellent care to be clean and careful in our house. The driver as thorough and helpful throughout the loading and unloading processes. I know it wasn't a profitable move on his part, we were moving to the middle of nowhere so I am sure it was hard for him to get the most out of his miles. Still he was always helpful and gracious. No complaints. They beat our expectations in service and when we expected everything to arrive.
Description of Work: We relocated to the Northeast in February. Not an ideal time to pack and move. We packed everything, but we had no problems with loading or unloading. The arrived on time in both locations. We got four quotes, one from a local company and three from nationally affiliated providers. Berger/Allied was the most reasonable. I had lots of follow up questions around the quote and logistics and all questions were answered quickly.

I specifically spoke with them about how damaged items would be handled with insurance. I paid them additional funds for insurance and their insurance company denied both claims. They denied liability due to not reporting broken items such as crystal pieces, etc. However I had reported this to them within three months. The movers admitted dropping a box on our dryer and I took a picture of the damaged dryer. I had given the dryer away to someone who needed a dryer and they wouldn't cover that claim because they said it was just a picture and was not visibly there any longer. Also, they lost a $200 mattress topper. I would not use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: They provided a long distance move and moved all of our items into a storage unit.

Response from Berger/Allied Van Lines - Louisville
We preformed moves for (member name removed) 3 time. We brought her into storage in April of 2013, we loaded a U-Haul for her in April and relocated her to Lake Geneva Wisconsin. During the relocation to Wisconsin she filed a claim for 2 items. Allied denied the claims based on items discarded before inspection or customer not available for appointment for inspector to look at the items. We have been with Allied Van Lines for 40 years and have found them to be reliable and dependable when a customer has a claim. Please contact me with any questions, I would like to try to resolve if possible. Thank you, Randy Underwood Network Manager

I packed everything myself. There was a circumstance, but I won't hold that against them. They dispatched a team to come get my stuff at 8 am and did not end up getting there until 3:30. On the receiving end everything was perfect and got there on time.
Description of Work: The provider moved all of my belongings.

Although my move came up quickly, I shopped it hard and fast. And heard a LOT of horror stories. Berger Allied was quickly available to provide an in-home estimate. I was impressed with the sales rep and felt he gave me fair and unbiased information (this was my first experience with professional movers, beware, it is largely a SCAM industry...he cautioned me to get a binding estimate). The pricing he gave me was so reasonable compared with other quotes I'd received I almost felt it was too good to be true. So I did a lot of homework very quickly, including looking the company up on Angie's List and asking friends. One friend had just used Berger Allied for a recent cross-country move from our city and spoke highly of them. So I took a chance and went with Berger Allied. I was VERY nervous. I am glad to report i had a VERY positive experience. Whew! I was assigned a moving coordinator and she was great (Cindy). Due to my travel plans i could not be there for the loading, a family member filled in for me. My family was very pleased with the loading process. The truck did arrive about 2 hours later than expected, but to be fair they had given us a range of times and so it wasn't unreasonable. The driver gave my family representative his cell phone number to give me, which was really nice to have. I really lucked out because the driver and his assistant were heading home to the west coast and my drop-off worked out to be first on the route, so I received my belongings days earlier than expected, which was awesome! The driver called me in the evening to ask some questions about the street, entryway, etc. and gave me an estimated arrival time for the next morning. They arrived right on time. Very polite and professional, and efficient. Overall, two thumbs up. Keep in mind, part of the luck is what driver you get and what their route is. I feel I got very lucky. Also, my load weight came in under the estimate, so my final bill ended up several hundred dollars lower than expected. The only issues I had were:-Sales rep told me that you could track the truck online. This isn't the case, because all it tells you is when it left!-One item was lost. It was a small item, and I didn't realize it until my husband came home and looked for it. I can say I should have paid closer attention to the check-off process. I was trying too much to help when I should have focused more on the check sheet. So if you can, have a friend do the check-off for you, so that you can focus on directing the unloading. (It was a small item, of only sentimental value, so no foul play suspected at all.) These were relatively minor issues. I am so relieved the overall move went well, nothing was damaged and it was so quick and efficient. Highly recommend working with the team at Berger Allied/Robards Court in Louisville, KY!

An agent came to our house in New York to give us an estimate (our new employer paid for the move). His estimate was right-on, scheduling was convenient and we appreciated that they offered a packing service. Their paperwork indicated that they had a "replacement value" policy for items damaged beyond repair in transit. They moved our belongings from our 2 bed/1 bath house and my husband's truck. We were able to track the moving van's progress and it arrived on schedule. While we used the "unpacking" service, the unpacking consisted of emptying the boxes without much regard for what went where (son's dresser was filled with a mixture of all of our clothes, kitchen cabinets were full of mixtures of pots, spices, towels). My husband's truck was unloaded and had several new dents in the hood. The worst part was that while unloading the bottom part of an armoire-type desk, the workers dropped it and it looked like it had been used by Wile E Coyote in an attempt on Road Runner's life, smashed and crooked like it had fallen off of a cliff. We were happy that the workers involved were not pinned underneath it and were happy that we had seen the replacement value policy. The desk had cost us $1400 when we purchased it several years prior. We sent documentation of this and pictures of my husband's truck to the company. They were slow to respond. When they responded, they refused to pay for the damage to the truck since we didn't have "pre-move" photos of it. They sent a furniture repair guy to take the remains of the desk to see if he could repair it. He pronounced it dead. They asked for me to prove how much I paid for it, but I did not have any of my original purchase documents, the store from which we had purchased the desk in New York had closed and the "top" section of the desk does not have any item number info on it (the bottom half is now with the furniture repair guy). I sent them a web link to a similar desk listed at $1900. They said this was unacceptable and asked the furniture repair man to give them a value. He suggested $1000. I am busy in my new position and have not been able to go "furniture shopping" in order to find more comparisons for them and after several exchanges of emails over the course of several months I just gave up and asked them to send me the check for $1000. I feel like their goal was to wear me down. It's a disappointing end to our interaction, and I would not use them again or recommend them.
Description of Work: Moved us from Long Island, New York to Louisville.
