ARTISAN WOOD FLOORS

Phase One of home improvement project. I had obtained two estimates and was trying to decide between them. A friend and co-worker of my husband referred Artisan. He had sand/finish floors installed at his home a couple years ago and raved about their work. So, I decided to call them in. My plan was to Install sand and finish hardwood flooring in family room, living room and front stairs. All was previously covered in carpet. Doug Hubert is owner and he does work too! He had helper, Steve. I had phone conversations with Doug. He came to the house, did measuring and estimates. I really appreciated his professionalism and his craftsmanship. While the other two estimates were fair, Doug had the best. I did not choose Artisan for the lowest estimate, I chose Doug because he seemed like a really nice fella who loved what he did. I felt like he would do the job like it was his own home. He carried a 'craftsman' air. Doug and Steve did a fantastic job! They did more that I asked for and did it well. We emptied the areas completely, and removed everything from walls. Old carpet was pulled up and taken away. Large, heavy tarps were hung up to keep dust down. There was still a lot of dust but it was expected. They both worked hard everyday. The job from start to finish took 10 days. One day being a Saturday morning because Doug wanted to fit in all they promised. He was even sick! The best part is I was OCD about the color. I had searched and found a picture of what I wanted but could not the exact stain color sample. Doug mixed colors and made the perfect custom color! My floors are beautiful and more than I expected. Phase Two of my project is a kitchen remodel. Refinishing kitchen and dining room floors, removing carpet on back stairs and installing sand and finish hardwood. He's doing that job too. He will keep the formula for stain and do the same. One more thing, after the project had begun I wanted to add a dark strip to separate the family room from the kitchen and the family room from the living room. The bid already included framing the fireplace hearth with a darker wood border. We chose walnut (which was already used in the dining room). It turned out fantastic! The whole project was beyond my expectations. They cleaned up completely and were very conscientious of my scrutiny.

The overall experience was F. They collapsed a computer desk and never bothered to put it back together. There was a small place they missed because a door was closed that they were supposed to come back and fix, but that has been two years ago and they still have not done it.

Contacted Doug to get a quote on refinishing our 100-year old maple floors. He was professional, punctual and came highly recommended by family members who used their services twice in the past. We did not have services performed at the time, as we were up against a deadline to remodel for a refinance, but plan to have this done in the future. He scheduled the appointment for after work hours to accommodate our schedule, and arrived on time. He told us exactly what we could have done, and what he recommended. He then contacted us by phone a day later with a quote, which was very fair. We will post another review when we schedule and have the work completed.
